  1. Yeah, was stoked to see such good steel under that quarter
  2. Stripped the passenger rear quarter and a few smaller spots...... Hardly any bog so came away nice and easy this time. Bit of a crease/dent leading up to the tail light and a hole in the bottom corner, but otherwise really clean! The sill is mint compared to the drivers side, a few dents but doesn't need to be replaced thankfully. I'll send the shell to the local panel shop to be finished off by a mobile sand blaster and then epoxy primed To do first: Finish stripping door jams Window apertures Dry ice sound deadening Remove bungs/screw mounts/door card mounts etc ......and........Strip top of boot, bonnet, passenger door, Beaver panel, fenders.......Yeah, getting there....... Discussion thread here http://oldschool.co....4-ke25-corolla/
  3. Got some shed time in yesterday avo......Stripped the roof/coated in Keyphos - great stuff! Just wipe it on and it stops any surface rust forming. And no I haven't primed the inside - that's just the new layer of bog dust EVERYWHERE. SO MUCH DUST! Only one small dent under it all which was nice. I had two coats of the gunmetal grey, a layer of spray filler in spots and some red primer (didn't see any original green up there) to remove, and even after scuffing the paint with some 60 grit, applying the stripper and wrapping it in plastic, I find I have to do it 2/3 times in some spots, and very thickly......is this normal? I seem to spend HEAPS of time on the grinder with the strip disc too, thought the stripper would be more potent.....I'm using TERGO STRIP. Also bought a 'dremel' from the warehouse to do the niggly bits around the doors and apertures. With the $$ i'll have to spend on the body work, it's cool to be able to get as much done as I can myself.
  4. Still stripping the paint of the shell and have rust to cut out etc.......it'll be a while. It's a long term project but want to keep things ticking over best I can by looking into all facets of the build.

    Windscreen help

You that'll do it ha ha. Rubber fit sealant mixed with urethane will leave you in the poo for sure. There may be options for a generic rubber trim you can use as an option. I can't remember your car/screen fitment of the top of my head but glasscorp on bush rd in albany will have a range of universal mouldings you could choose from, or just pop into a smith and smith and ask if you can buy a few metres.....they'll probably just give you a bit

    Windscreen help

It's often problems with the chemical bonding process that cause the bond to fail. Make sure there's no traces of silicone based products being used on or near the aperture......if so, best to grind it back to metal and paint it again. if you have done that, once the paint is cured, lightly scotchbrite the surface and apply a coat of the black primer Sika Primer-206 G+P If the aperture is silicone free (people often use it to stop leaks - not wise), and there are any scuffs/scratches/bare metal spots, the same primer is ideal for that. But before that, after you have trimmed back the old urethane, give it a good clean and then prime it with Sika Activator Pro. wait 3 mins and then you can black prime with a dabber. (Give this 10 mins to flash off) Dont scrub the clear primer in, just drag it around on a clean paper towel, swapping the towel over and use a clean bit for the other side. Clean the ceramic (black) edge of the glass with Sika Activator Pro, wait 3 mins before applying the urethane - SikaTack Drive. Apply the urethane onto the glass, make sure there are no gaps. Get a few glass josters and have a mate help you lift it in, lining up the top corners first and gently laying the bottom onto the aperture. you can use some tape to hold the screen in place along the top (after 10 mins it won't move). Get the mouldings in asap as you have some flexibility with the urethane/height positioning of the screen. Give it an hour before you drive the car If I was still in Auckland I'd pop round and do it for you.....hopefully it isn't information overload
  7. thanks for all the input guys....really appreciate it
  8. Nice......saw that ke25 race car with the F20C, was on trade me recently for 25K......a little bit of firewall work but oh boy what a rocket. Would have MAYBE considered a H22A red top if there were RWD applications but meh Good to know about the cams.......I'll probably just do a refresh of the engine, make it look pretty, add some cams and leave it there
  9. I did a little research into that a few years back.......has it actually been some setups done for RWD? yeah nah.........want a bit more poke
  10. no offence - I'm sure its a great engine, just not what I want to do
  11. it's just not a modernised te27/levin/trueno without a 4age....... that and I couldn't bring myself to putting a rotor/sr20 in it........ or the engine from what is commonly referred to in some circles "a gay hairdresser's car" ha ha
  12. yes I'm a dreamer.......ha ha and there is a lot of panel work. Everytime i'm down the shed I see the motor and think I should be getting on with that too. What you say (and a few others) makes sense now, stick one in and build an awesome one in the background later.
  13. yeah itb's for sure.........good to know it doesn't need too much. I'm still considering stripping it down for a clean/refresh the gaskets etc/paint.....balance crank/lighten flywheel etc.......all still good stuff to do?
  14. would you recommend stronger internals incase of going turbo down the track or will new stock ones be ok?
  15. I wasn't particularly fixed on the down low benefits.........what tweaks do you recommend?
  16. Won't be ready for an engine for a looooonnnnnnnng time........plus has done 260kms and will need a refresh anyway so may aswell make it better......
  17. Hey Guys I am wanting to get work underway on my engine build (first timer) and am looking for some advice/experience/direction... I have a KE25 I am restoring and have a complete 20v Blacktop 4age in the shed. //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/49951-alasdairs-1974-ke25-corolla/ I had a BZ Carib with the BT and really enjoyed driving it and found you get the best out of it in the high revs.... I figured with the much lighter corolla it would be better to sacrifice some of the higher revs with the lower range grunt of the 7AGE (As I don't really intend to fang around ringing it out all the time......maybe once in a while ha ha) Either way I anticipate I'll be buying SAMQ's RWD water kit, COP's, ECU, new pistons, rods etc maybe new cams? springs? Hell, I don't even fully grasp what half of all this stuff means, just well read ha ha. I don't want to go OTT, but want to do a really good job......honing? porting? polish? (thanks Gran Turismo) I'll be getting professional help, while also doing as much as I can with proper guidance. I know it will come down to "what i prefer" but as a noob, what's the better option? Rebuilding the BT with some go fast bits........or a 7AGE.......with some go fast bits?? It'd probably cost the same to do it either way I imagine? Yours sincerely, Noob looking forward to building his first engine.
  18. I'm looking for someone in the waikato area who's good at panel work to cut out some rust and fit some new steel, knock out a few dents etc...... Any recommendations? Any skilled OS'ers keen to help a noob out? $$
  19. moved to a new town, set up new business, had a baby, set up shed........finally got some progress I set up the second half of the shed for the car by closing it in with some plastic. Best decision EVER! SOOOOO much BOG! discovered already = So much dust!! Got the rear quarter and drivers door stripped and coated in keyphos. The lower section was about 6mm thick with bog, covering up a few dents and a massive hole, and surprisingly the sill wasn't rusty, just totally dented in and filled with bog. Went through 2/3 coats of paint stripper then ended up having to use strip discs as 50% of the panel and the drivers door were totally layered in bog. Two strip discs and a dead grinder later i'm wondering if I just cut straight to sandblasting..... any OS'ers in the waikato keen to come and cut out my rust and fit some new steel?? http://oldschool.co....4-ke25-corolla/
  20. RWD toyota page on Facebook. The guy had got them in a bundle of parts from an old guy that used to work at toyota factory and kept them when he retired. One of those finds we are all hoping for
  21. and they both costs you lots of money!
  22. So, not a lot has happened directly to the car, but it has a new home! After a month of cleaning, fixing, building etc - we are settled in Otorohanga and I am finally onto organising the shed and work can start anew on the car. (it took a week and 2 massive skips just to clean out the shed of my old mans junk). lifted it onto the spit - stoked it didn't break and the car is still mounted a month later I do have to adjust the angle of the main mounts a touch so it will spin and move around properly (product of building it on a wonky floor in the old garage) AND........hands up who like NOS??? 40yr old mint condition badges!! Come have a chat!! //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/49950-alasdairs-1974-ke25-corolla/
  23. So, not a lot to report lately. Picked up a TE27 brake booster and accelerator pedal out of Japan. The landlord has decided to sell our house. We tried to buy it, but it's Auckland so unless I sell my organs, I can't afford it. So we have to move, which has put any work on the car on hold.......BUT I am moving back to the waikato, and I get a four car garage/workshop and a whole bunch of time off.........not too shabby. So this time next month I'll have a new workshop and the shell finally on the spit ready for some major progress Goodbye Auckland!!! Discussion thread here http://oldschool.co....4-ke25-corolla/
  24. Found this too Also I've been working on some 3D printed replicas of the complete SR set.......more on that soon
  25. Second update Merry Christmas to me from Japan.... OEM brand new sill covers/kick plates (don't kick them though cause if you dent them, I'll kick you!! ha ha).......very rare AND.......TE27 retractable seatbelts! need to be recoloured and chromed but a score none the less. I need to figure out how to use them.......there's three parts - the buckle, the retractable clip (top section) and I guess the lap piece but I have no clue how they connect together.....any ideas? discuss here http://oldschool.co....4-ke25-corolla/
