  1. Removed hideous reflectors after checking if required in nz...not required so off they come.

    Much better!!

Then, touched up the paint where a ram mount for cell phone/radar detector was mounted through the front fearing.

And relocated the mount to the triple tree. I came up with my own system which effectively works like a dyna bolt made with fuel line rubber and a long M6 allen cap screw. Works great!!

Very happy with the way its turning out. Looking tough as fuck now.

  2. Experimenting with tyre paint pens.

All my tyres are completely different, must be a race thing eh - fronts set up to grip in the corner and rears for drifting??? (Joking) Its just what was on it when I got it.

But just like tattoos, its more about the attitude than the art itself. I'm digging the results of the white lettering, so thats all that matters.

Sound plan. No harm in having an inline fuse. Little bit of extra work and cost but far cheaper than an electrical fire... :thumbleft:

What size fuse would you put in? Would you put in more than one, to say each of the controls, headlight, rear end??? Treat me like an idiot and spell it out sloooowly...

Looking forward to hearing this run, have you got any closer to picking a colour?

Same. Yeah colour was always going to be root beer or candy colar, which are basically the same, ones a mid metallic brown, ones a darker smokey metallic brown/black. But as always, ive got annopen mind on colour and I more know what I don't like - rather than what I do like.

Had a quick look. Seems there are inbuilt circuit breakers that will reset themselves, and led indication of status. Shit information from website tho, had to dig thru a few HD forums... :)

HD seems to favour CBs that reset, I prefer fuses that let you know you have a problem until you fix it. When I wired the cafe' I just used a 4 fuse block with a main fuse to the key then back to separate fused circuits for ignition, lights and accessories. Then you either lose everything with a big fault, or the problem cct is isolated.

Sorry I really don't know enough about that harness/system to advise, but it should be ok to wire as per instructions...

Thanks for putting in that effort to help, much appreciated.

There are two models 18-530 which has those led fault indicators. And the newer version 18-533 which is much smaller and doesn't have the led's.

Mine is the 18-533. Ive searched and searched and there's basically no good answers, but lots of people with similar questions online.

I'll put a main fuse in for starter etc...otherwise just send it i think??

Yeah make sure you have some sort of fuse/breaker protection. Don't know if you are running a battery or not but there's a lot of potential for fire there without something to break a fault circuit.

Happy to look over your diagram if you can post it up? Won't be till next week though as still on holiday and will have no reception soon...

Hey man, what's your thoughts on fuses etc for this unit? I'm not 100% its got them inside it or not?

Im a retard for all things electric...

Surely there's some fuses in the relay box? Or is it sealed?

Thanks mate. Its sealed, so I'm unsure about fuses or not? Also if there were fuses - I'm even more unsure what you do if one does blow, as its sealed.

Kind of regretting buying this module now, as other choices may have been better. Benefits of hindsight.

Lifan do a knock off of the yamaha 250 vtwin the loom that came with mine is actually pretty nice and well made. Bet its cheap as chips if you want any details let me know ill chase up a supplier i know of that sells pocket bike stuff near work.

Thanks mate. Definitely keep it in mind. As you can imagine my enthusiasm for that bike just isn't there anymore. I'm parking it in the naughty corner until I decide what to do with it??

I never thought I'd ever get a Buell (my childhood dream bike), but I sold a shitload of stuff on trademe to free up funds and grabbed this one. I have a feeling they've bottomed out price wise and will start going up in value. There's only 28 (my make, model and year) of these in NZ. They were extortionate price wise when new, one of the most expensive bikes in the sports bike class - you basically had to be a drug dealer or gang boss to afford one when new.

I'm so fucking happy with it. No oil leaks to be found, nor any sign its ever leaked in its near 20 year lifetime, everything is spotless. Ive got 15 years of service records and the owner changed the oil and filters every 1000km...not sure why? But I'm glad he did.

I took it for its nightly blat up the road, where I put it in 3rd by hand as my leg doesn't work atm, start off in that gear 0 to XXXkph at 6000rpm then clutch in, turn around and repeat home...fuck its fast!!! I love its torque, so beautifully predictable and just keeps pulling hard!!

  9. I've got the repco one, paid like $400 for it. Supposedly good enough to start a 6L V8 or diesel motor.

Truth is somewhere in the middle. It can if your battery is just that little bit too flat to start. But if you left your lights on all day...not a chance in hell it will start it.

The old style with leads and a giant plastic box that looks like a bomb are much better. But less convenient due to their giant size.

I still carry mine on trips away and its saves my arse a few times, so not a bad device, just don't expect it to perform as well as the old ones do.

  10. The wiring has been spliced into to add a heap of accessories like radar detection, phone charger and who knows what else. They were a real mixed bag of quality or not, the usual stuff with something 20 years old. So I went through it all and deleted all the bullshit.

    Resized_20210119_104721(1).thumb.jpeg.292e9fca5e37201566468879f2e261e6.jpeg

This is most of the shit I took out^^^ there were a few other random bits and bobs.

    Resized_20210119_105124.thumb.jpeg.daaeec657ef9b99eb4050716603ca33f.jpeg

Nice and clean, no shit dangling down now.

    Resized_20210118_144106.thumb.jpeg.0f60c27fd9a2222cc14e2b297e126d31.jpeg

I also undid the clutch and re routed the cable so it wasn't trying to rip the wiring loom out of its socket at full lock. It must have been replaced at some stage and installed incorrectly. I took the opportunity to grease all the friction surfaces and its sooooo butter smooth now. Worth doing it just for that reason alone.

    Resized_20210119_111639.thumb.jpeg.225c1f6710d432f32e00261363f2af00.jpeg

Then I deleted the rear passenger pegs. Chances of me picking up a hot chick are lotto odds, so may as well just get rid of them now, as they ruin the nice clean lines of the bike. I went through everything and tidied things as I could...all up, looking pretty clean now.

    stoked!!

Arh sweet as, working out exactly what to buy off rs was a bit of a mission anyways, as they don't list them complete  have to nut the male the female  the pins, the sockets and then the pin locks!. They did seem pretty cheap thou.

Yip, I found them on Google and got a bit "con-fussed" by it all.

Fuse wise, do you think I need to add some in? My gut is saying yes, but unsure how to approach it.

  12. So I ended up buying proper genuine deutsch connectors at silly money, just because I don't want the electric gremlins sometimes associated with using sub par cheap parts.
