  1. Started to strip the interior, ready for the cage to go in: Starting to modify the dash: Dash again, How do I remove this stuff? Any easy way???
  2. Doubt it, but thanks for the answer anyway.
  3. The blacktop has more lift on the intake cam but the exhaust cams are the same. TBH not worth the effort but they were in the engine when we swapped it in. The 7afe headgasket rasies to comp up .5 which makes the ST 10.5 to 11 which is a bit more power. But i would personally not bother with the BT intake cam for .2mm lift. Just buy aftermarket which is what I will be doing as soon as the bank account gets a bit better, The heat is an issue but what we are doing is building a pod that seals to the bonnet when its closed and has an vent giving the ITB's cold fresh air. TBH she sounds mean at 8,000rpm with the poddy on it. The exhaust is decent, who ever did it, did a good job. Sounds sporty and not too loud or ricey.
  4. The Silvertop is running a Blacktop Manual ECU and a 4afe MAP sesnor until I can afford a blacktop one. Its actually very easy to rewire the loom for the new ECU and change from AFM to Blacktop MAP. Will write a guide if anyone is intrested. The engine has the following mods: Blacktop intake cam Blacktop ECU 2.5 inch exhaust 7afe headgasket (raises comp to 11:1)
  5. It will be running trumpets with socks in a special made box which seals with the bonnet and is vented so it only draws in cold air, worried that it will be far to noisy at the 4,400-8,200rpm mark. Thanks for answering the other questions.
  6. Can you make a 100mm trumpets for my silvertop?
  7. If anyone has any suggestions or advice please send it my way. Looking at putting 100mm Trumpets on the Silvertop and running some sort of vent straight to the trumpets (with socks on), get that nice induction noise going. Also looking at getting a set of fixed back seats if anyone knows any decent priced ones that will fit the 82's rails.
  8. This has been a while comming now but the old girl lives. I purchased her and she had done 403,000km. She is a 1984 FX-GT 16valve hatchback. I admit she was rough as guts. BUT her interior is damn near perfect, the original seats didnt even have a single rip. Currently she has: MRP Coil overs with "Race" springs AE111 Front Brakes Whiteline 18mm Rear sway bar 20v 4age engine from a GT apex LSD Box So skip forward 3 months (will update photos later) and this is her now: As you can see she is a little rough, but nothing that cant be fixed, only rust is a little on the roof and inner guard which will be fixed soon. Nice new Silvertop engine and LSD box, looks almost factory 20v Silvertop in all her glory, got to love the sound she makes.
  9. Quick few questions about getting the FX on the road: 1) I have done an engine swap from 16v to 20v does it need to be cert'd as its not over 20% more power to the wheels? 2) The Silvertop will run open trumpets with socks on them, it is very loud (induction side, as exhaust is moderate), is there any laws about induction noise over exhaust noise? How do they tell them apart and if there is a limit whats the DB rating? 3) I have put AE111 front brakes on the 82, since they are toyota OEM parts are they ok or should they be certified too? 4) I know the half cage is legal and doesnt need to be cert'd but for easy of police sake would it be better to get it cert'd at the same time? 5) I have been told since it is running adjustables they need to be cert'd, my question about this is if I change the spring rate does that affect the cert, should i wait till i have it setup before going to the cert guy? 6) Is a Apexi-RSM good enough for a speedo or do I need to run a gauge? 7) What are the rules about removing the heater/blower unit and installing a light weight fan unit? Thanks in Advance
  10. I am in the process of making a dash cluster for my AE82 using a 5inch tach as the centre point much like the old rally cars with a few warning lights and an oil pressure and water temp guage. Trying to keep it simple yet functional and after reading the WOF requirments it needs a speedo. Can i remove the speedo from the stock guage cluster and mount it behind some plastic as a seperate unti and ditch the rest of the stock cluster and if so any idea on how one goes about taking it all apart? Would they accept that at WOF time and I can't seem to locate any specifics about where it needs to be mounted on the dashboard, was thinking about mounting it off to one side like on a yaris/vitz/echo. Does it need to be mounted within a specific area of the dash? Or as long as it is visable to the driver is it classified as ok?
  11. Just found out they dont.
  12. I used to own an Ae101 and the rear lateral arms are two different types. One is adjustable and will have pillowball mounts at the ends. The other had rubber bushings. To get a cheap handling upgrade you replaced the rubber one with another pillowball one. Having just picked up an Ae82 I was woundering if anyone knew if the same trick would work with it?
