by looking at the photo of what you put up about the carpet it doesn't look too bad in the photo
theres one thing you have to consider if you are going to get new carpet
1 being you are a young fella and me aswell both know once its legal your gonna go cruising with your mates etc
and there going to eat and drink in the car and place there dirty shoes on your nice new carpet.
All rounder the car doesn't look too bad of shape although i would advise a oil and filter change prior to the engine being started by looking at the oil filter
and i would advise in investing in some fish oil or a similar product and go round and spray in the inside of doors rear gaurds anywhere that rust could start
good luck with the project

Decided I better update this thread
I haven't really done a lot on this regarding the rust repairs but I decided I would pull it apart a bit more
So now my mission is to fix the exhaust leak it had from the manifold
If you zoom into the picture you can see the big gap between the manifold and head
Which reviled this big leak
The reason that there was a exhaust leak was due to a buggered gasket manifold wasn't completely flat and that a couple of a exhaust studs weren't long enough to fit a flat washer on
So while I was at it I gave the surfaces a good facing so there will be no more leaks
Now I just need to get a couple of longer exhaust studs and a new inlet/exhaust gasket
And get a carb to manifold rubber gasket from Webber specs

Decided I would do some work to this and this had been bugging me since I've had the car that the rear brake drums were rusty which looked crap.
So I started by jacking it up removing wheels etc and I managed to get the left rear drum off but the right hand one wouldn't have a bar of it
I was smanging it as hard as I could with a big hammer with fully de adjusted brakes
So with oldschool post for ideas
Smanging it and heat was the answer
So I ended up using a propane torch and a drift and a big hammer.
Didn't get a photo of how bad they were before but I'm sure your imagination can paint a picture of them

So I ended up getting the drum off
I blasted the shit out of it with the propane torch and no didnt get it red hot as not advised
Ended up using a solid drift and hammer and smang dat while rotating the drum every couple of smangs
And worked a treat
Also find out it helps if you have someone to help you for some unknown reason.
Cheers for the ideas guys!

Have been tapping it one the flat face
Have sprayed crc on it also
And handbrake is also off
The drum is free spinning
Have even been hitting it with a big sledge hammer
I think heat might be the go aye

In my kp starlet I've been trying to get the brake drums off
I've got the L/H side off by tapping it with the hammer took awhile though
But the R/H one won't budge I've fully de adjusted the shoes tapped the hell out of it with a big hammer
Tried hitting it from behind with a punch also.
Although it does appear to be damaged around the locating hub which I think is what is stopping it from coming off.

My work and myself use Enpro engine reconditioning on 11 Malvern rd off church in onehunga/penrose just a one man band very knowledgeable guy very fair pricing and I think infact his ute has a ford v8 in it.
He's been in business for a few years now and said he use to have a bigger shop before with a few employees when everyone was getting engine rebuilds etc.

Looking for LSD diff options for my kp starlet
Have found a hilux setup but are they a bit overkill?
Do hilux's have a good LSD diff?
Or is a t series the way to go?
Currently has a 4k in it but will be going to a 4age in the future

Also anyone got any front doors for me?
-
After looking at the door again I've decided it's a bit of a mission to fix as its double skin in areas
So I pulled the rest of the doors off to check weather they are repairable as well and have decided I'll try and find some not so rusty front doors and will repair the rears
With all the doors off what better way to go for a burn down the street and back right?
Here's a pic of proof I did

Do you require a kit or is it just leaking from the o ring on the shaft going into the engine as it's quite common they leak

If you have a good quality screwdriver that fits nice would be a start
Sometimes it works if it has a hard handle try and tap it the handle of the screwdriver with a hammer while trying to undo the screw

I Havn't done any welding with panel steel before so I've picked up some scrap bits to do some practice welding with so once I get good enough I'll start my patches on my car.
I've pulled that for sale sticker off that back as well after I took the photos
