Lucas Coil mayte.
V can looks okay but something different would be better. Find some obscure can that nobody has.
you got any of thooose hiding in one of your dairy's
son?
-
i'd go for a floppy gym sock over the V can, it's unique, flea from the chillipeppers would roll it as a costume, and you can use it to clean the dipstick.
cool starlet. yeah forget the shiny bolt-on bits and throw your money at making the car sweet to use. trust me, it'll make sense in a couple years.
great idea!
buuuut
i think the only thing i would end up seeing is it going up in flames
remember there's heat electricity and fuel vapour's in my engine bay
very valid point
but generally making bits shiny etc doesnt cost me much
mostly 0$$ as i get stuff from work bolt's paint etc
but im all go for Function over show
-
(V)omit can, needs an MSD blaster coil
yeah
but i cant justify them for that price
over 100$ just for very little performance gain and for something that looks good

So plan is
Get bits and bobs off over a long course of time and paint or clean them up
Decided I would do the water pump pulley
So removed it gave it a clean up with a wire brush
Then applied some satin black with a couple of coats
And left overnight
Then fitted the next day with some new shiny bolts
And bam!
Was going to do the crank pulley and alternator but
Didn't have my rattle gun handy to remove them so
Will do them some other time.

Decided I would do the Ol
Can over the coil trick ow
With a classic v can
I was going to use a L&P can but didn't have a mint one at disposal
So
L&P can or keep v can?

That coon wagon
the owner of it works next door to my work at the panel beaters
he reckons its starting to get a bit of rust in it
-
great work
loving the little detailed engine bits
what radiator are you using?
p10 primera?
how well with fitting loactions etc
cheers

personally i wouldnt get the vehicle taken into a workshop etc
saves yourself alot of coin
unless getting something done requires the vehicle there
i would get hold of driveshaft nz they are in church st in penrose and sunnybrae road in hillcrest north shore
see what measurements they require etc give them it and take in old driveshaft and they could modified it perharps
then put your new one in yourself would probly save about $200-$300
with your engine mounts i would talk to someone like TTT Automotive engineering or strange workshop see weather yours are a good design etc
can make you new ones of same thing otherwise they make you different ones

So I ended up getting my new exhaust gasket just after Christmas
And just ended up removing some of the exhaust studs that were too
Short and put them back in the opposite side as someone had put them
In on the long thread side.
Got inlet and exhaust fitted up all sweet with some new washers
And nuts
Then I thought I would get some new studs for the inlet/carb
Side along with some new nuts while waiting for Webber
Specs to open up again for my new carb gasket as mine
Had a torn in it and was missing the correct washers for it
So I started with shortening up my new studs so they would
Look nice and fit flush with the nuts etc
Then February came around and I received my
New gasket and then realised that I had not remembered
That the new gasket came with some rubber washers and
I had not allowed room on the studs for them so
I fucked up
And had to buy new studs again!
Then this happened
Now she's going and making
Dort noises as it should!
Also removed the rocker cover and
Gave it a bit of a polish up

nice work on making the bracket for the pedal box
but when all the dash is in how are you going to be able to bleed/topup the reservoir's
as the dash will be inclosing that?
could always remote locate them etc

I thought i better stop being a slacker and update this thread
It was only feb last year that i did some major work on it
It needed the headgasket replaced as it was using and leaking coolent and general tidy up in the engine bay
i had been putting back doing the head gasket for long enough as work etc
untill my boss told me to take some time off as i had a few holiday days owing
so why not do my headgasket right?
then my boss offered for me to chuck it on the hoist and do it
so deal was done
basic headgasket to do and a week to do it easy job right
nah bro!
started off with just removing the head etc
then thought why dont i do the noisy gearbox and leaking steering rack and rack bushes while im at it
so i did that too
then i had a closer look at the block and thought ahh it needs a good lick of paint but do i really need to do it
fuck it lets make this a big job
Things quickly escalated to a big job but owellalso for some odd reason from factory the left hand engine mount bracket is white and the right hand one is black so i gave both a new lick of white paintalso gave the block a lick of VHT blackand sanded down all the other brackets and pulleys etc and painted them while i was at itnow that was quite a long process in itself.- 2

Everyone says they wear out the alternator bearings quick but
they always say they had the belt overadjusted too
And the ol 4K's dont seem to handle much boost just destroys them haha
just get it for the noise!
-
Have also been thinking about chucking some Gilmore pulleys on this as well just for the noise
Bit pricey but good quality so yeah
Yeah nah ?

I had also started on repairing some of the rust in one one of the doors as they were a bit rusty
Ended up with a couple of patches but had to stop as I couldn't figure out what was metal and what was bog

As you can see in the photos these starlet doors contain 2 metal skins and from the factory they were not rust proofed between the two skins which when moisture attacks them it leaves a ugly mess like this
So what I've done to fix this issue is to use only one skin of metal through the repairs to reduce the comeback of rust but using thicker panel steel to still keep the strength.
So with those bits done I ended up sending my doors away to be sand blasted as my one at home couldn't remove the bog

I got both right hand doors done
And they ended up with less rust/holes that I thought they would have which is sweet
So now there just sitting there waiting for me to finish the rest of the cutting and patching
Thanks for reading
Chuck some ideas and tips through here chaps

Update time
Gave my headers a bit of a clean up not that you see them but they were rusty so why not
Pulled out the grinder and chucked the wire wheel on it and gave it a wiz
Gave the headers a lick of VHT black in the best conditions the back of the can could tell me 10pm at night in the cold starting to drizzle and using a torch to see what the hell I was painting
And I'll keep thinking they turned out mint
Seriously bro they ended up mint
See mate there mint

Right lads in the know.
Henkel Emer-Tan..... I have all the Rx2 panels stirpped to bare and now sitting covered in this product. Im ready in the next few weeks to epoxy prime. Have read data sheet but not clear on if I completely remove it or not. I was thinking rubbing panels down with prepsol as normal prior to paint but perhaps not with this stuff?
Anyone got exp?
Gaz
ive got no exp with that stuff but just wondering where did u get it from? im looking for some appears to good shit but apparently you can only get in 20L but idk
