  1. Will flick him an email. and Give nick at Northshore toyota a call too, for price on both gaskets for the 20v and some gaskets for the 7a bottom half as well as a price on smallport gze pistons... Hopefully he'll be able to give me some onto it prices if I buy all at once.
  2. Hahaha hopefully dude, although, mechanic just quoted me $305+ gst for the gasket 20v 4age set lol. -.-
  3. Real? From where dude? The cheapest I could find was $649. I've already got the forged rods, so thats no problem there.
  4. Hahaha, yeaaaah but like I said, im not mechanically minded Hahaha. I knew about the stroke being different, but couldn't actually see it for myself. Probably didn't help I just took the photo on the ground and walked off without actually looking at em XD , 1JZGE, I did throw up some pics? Nothing special... Going to see mechanic now about stripping the head off my 20v and chucking the plenum onto the ITB's
  5. Found these quite interesting, First pic: Forged 7A conrods, second pic: Standard 7A conrod. And third picture: 7AFE crank on left, and bluetop 4AGE 16v Crank on right. From what I can see, aside from the 7afe crank being 6 bolt, and the 4age being 8. There seems to be no real difference? Would it be worth the trouble now that the crank is actually out, to turn it into a 'knife crank'?
  6. *Small update, Block has been pulled apart, mechanic said that it was actually in decent nick which is a tad of a bonus, but getting rebuilt anyways so no real problem. Getting water blasted today, then Soda blasted on Monday
  7. Yeah, I was thinking about some sort of forged pistons, will definitely investigate further into to them now ( had a quick look when I was looking for conrods ) Lowest I could seem to find in NZ without going custom were 8.9/9.0 to one.
  8. Yeah man, I saw that 9age kit... Wish I had the extra coin to do it, but in the end.. I'm a student, have a loan, and can not justify selling my ke35 just to buy that kit... Its bloody awesome though... Ideally, I just want a turbo'd car I can have fun with ( never driven a turbo'd car before lol ) I also want to be able to use it occasionally as a track car/ street car/ Hori Dori days... Haha, but yeah, I've always loved the 85/86's and just want something thats not the typical 16v/20v thats dumped in them.
  9. That would be sick, is it 20v as well? If you could get some details of what hes done/ head/ cams hes using, that would be amazingly helpful.
  10. Yup thats my budget build alright haha Sweet, so i'll pretty much start looking for some GZE pistons to suit then, should be a bit of a mission. I'm looking at decent cams, going down to the guy at Auckland Cams tomorrow to sus out getting some done and his opinion on what I should get too. Mhmm I guess i'll ask around anywhere/ everywhere I go haha, yeah I bought the rods off the guy that owns that crazy 500hp 7agte levin/ trueno whatever it is and forgot to ask but instead was asking about timing belts hahaha.
  11. Was looking at about 14psi, but realistically probably 8-10, probably 8 to start off with though.
  12. Mhmmm... Well that sucks, there goes my budget for the engine if I have to buy new pistons, yeah, I was reading about using GZE pistons, but like you said, it would become an interference engine unless it was flycut? Which then makes it supposedly 'safer' to use
  13. Hey guys, So i'm building a 7agte for my ae85. Just saw SamQ's rough estimate on CR's with the different 4ages/ TRD HG's/ 7A bottom ends: http://s-86.com/s-cr-chart.html I plan on running 20v silvertop pistons, my forged 7afe conrods, and the 7a bottom end. which supposedly gives me a CR of 11.5... I'm just curious as to what would be the benefits/ negatives of running a turbo'd engine with a higher CR like that? As from what i've read online, everyone that turbo's engines seem to be wanting in the 8's/ low 9's? And, if it is that bad to be running a 11.5 Compression ratio on that type of engine, what would be the best way to lower it, apparently changing the headgasket would be the easiest, but what else? I've read somewhere about decking the block or something? And what sort of CR would be the best for both responsiveness and driveability? somewhere like 10.1 ish? If you can actually make heads or tails about what I wrote, any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Liam
  14. Yeah, he was a GC, told me how to fit the plenum properly, how exactly what to grind off to make it fit perfectly and even told me how to prep it which is majorly helpful.
  15. Thanks mate! yeah, trying to be as budget as I can without sacrificing too much as I need to kinda get whatever I put into it back when the time comes for either a house deposit or pay off student loan lol. I've got a $10,000 budget on it at the moment, and have priced everything minus paint for just under that, so planning on trying to be as tight as possible haha.Upwards of the $6,300 mark at the moment Haha.
  16. Err... Good question, im useless with names to be honest mate, he was a big solid bloke, i'm 6'1 and he was taller/ bigger than me haha... Worked for a trucking company as an engineer I assume? Can't even remember the company name...
  17. So with 1 bar of boost + usual cams/ port and polish, blue printed and lightened, easy 320hp? Thats awesome.
  18. Discussion for: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/36637-gostlys-7agte-20v-ae85-built-on-student-allowance/ Here, any help/ tips/ hate/ advice would be greatly appreciated. Will finish loading up the pictures/ better write up as the time goes on. PLEASE NOTE >.> I'm no way mechanically minded lol, so yeaaaah I tend to have to pay my mechanic/ help him out with building it for me.. Aim is to be around the 300hp mark and weighing 900kg's if not lighter, with a half cage amongst other things... Cheers
  19. Hi guys, I’m Liam. Discussion here: http://oldschool.co....dent-allowance/ I found this on trademe, and it was actually being sold by a mate I went to primary school with, had no idea who he was until I saw him, which was cool. I got it for a decent price with a blown head gasket on the 3AU. It had a bit of rust around the door hinges and the rear windows which is why he was selling, also obviously because of the head gasket… This is how I got it: After sitting around for two months deciding what I wanted to do with it, I finally decided to get the tired old 3AU and auto box out of it, so paid the mechanic a few dollars to do it in his spare time. I then got the rust done – the old man promised to bend up some metal and weld it in, but the muppet decided to fiberglass it for the same money, was not impressed at all because a few months later it’s beginning to have rust bubbles forming on it… Any who, I got the 85 to the mechanics workshop and he ripped out the 3au in a few hours and begun to put in my spare 20v Silvertop 4A with my t50 and competition clutch in it. At this stage, I pretty much had the entire 20v and 16v conversion for it, however after realizing that I would have to have the firewall cut and have some crappy looking waterlines made up for the FWD engine, I binned the idea of the 20v N/a Silvertop with t50 and ended up flogging it off for a fair few dollars. When I was out shopping for a new rear end for my ke35 I met a man called Alistair in Hamilton, he knows his stuff about old Toyota’s and how to build them/ rally them. I told him that I was looking at building something different for an ae85/6 and he suggested building a N/A 7age 20v with some decent cams and head work done to it to make it sit in the 200-220HP range which got my interested in that sort of engine, I came across a few cars that have had this conversion done to it and decided that I wanted to turbo one. I found a complete 20v Silvertop this time which had been rebuilt – with receipts and the larger T28 Garrett turbo ( supposedly capable of 350HP ). Then after trolling all the 4A websites trying to look for a RWD plenum that would fit the Silvertop’s ITB’s I found a man in Tauranga that would build me one for fairly cheap, $325 if I came to pick it up, which was no real problem as I was off uni and both me and the missus were terribly bored. We headed down to the Mount and spent the day in the sun whilst he finished up the plenum, its not the prettiest looking one as I havn’t decided wether or not to Powder coat it or polish it up but it was less than half price of what MRP could do one for. And most importantly, it fits. After my trip down to Tauranga, I begun the search for a 7afe block/bottom half. Which isn’t the easiest, they don’t really seem to pop up on trademe too often, and if they do they want big dollars for it, however the Toyota parts/ wreckers on Patiki Road, Avondale, Auckland sold me a block out of a working Caldina for $200 cash – the block had done just over 220k’s but it didn’t really worry me as it was going to be rebuilt anyways. Being a poor student with other cost, I can’t afford to build the car up to ‘showcar’ spec with all the luxury goods, so instead of forking out the 2grand for a set of Brides, I bought some new fixed back KW’s for it, and because im a tightass, I decided that I didn’t want to fork out another $400 for bolt on seat rails, so instead chopped up the old ae85 interior and used the rails on the KW’s. Eventually, I got bored with trying to strip out the interior and was running out of money quickly as I was wasting it on other necessities like tattoo’s and booze However, I did manage to score a new intercooler for $100, it’s a bit of a big one, but hey. And I got a triple core ae86 brand new radiator + Momo leather wheel + bosskit + ke70 lovell springs for a Honda Civic radiator I had out of my ke35 which will be used for my 85. A smaller update. Got some new fiberglass guards + some choice old American gauges for the ae85 today, will get them put on the car when I can find someone to chop the rear guards and make them into a widebody for me. After saving for a little while, I managed to buy SAMQ’s RWD 20V waterkit and his 1NZ coilpack adapter plate. Still pateintly waiting for it too arrive before the motor starts actually getting its rebuild. The plan is to have a 20v 7AGTE that is still easiest enough to daily to uni, but enough responsiveness to take to Hori Dori days/ the track in the weekends. I’ve managed to source a W55 for it, no A-W bellhousing as of yet due to expenses. And also managed to find a F series LSD for my ae85, not as heavy as a hilux, cheaper to buy and I believe some of the Altezza’s still have F series, so plenty of parts availiable too. The box I bought cheap off trademe - supposedly had 2nd gear buggered, but no real problem as I was wanting one or two boxes for spare parts anyways. Today, I went out to South Auckland to pick up the forged conrods for the 7A, I got them and saved a few dollars by paying cash for them. which I was happy with and getting him ( Barry from MRP ) to mod my crank sprocket so standard 16v/ silvertop timing belt and oil filters can bolt on without modding/ trying to source the Porsche timing belts and shaving off one of the teeth to make it fit. I also found out, after asking around on here, there was no real point about trying to change the 6 bolt 7afe crank to suit a 8 bolt 4a flywheel/ clutch, and that a 4afe/5afe flywheel fit them so am on the lookout one on of those too. Block is being stripped tomorrow and being cleaned up ready to be acid dipped/ powdercoated/ looking all nice and pretty. * Will continue to add pics/ details/ actual info about it over next few days.
  20. Hey dude, http://www.toycrazy.net/tech/diffcompare.html does that help anywhat?
  21. If your interested in buying some 4age crap, i've got enough for a pretty much complete conversion... aside from driveshaft... Pm if your interested..
  22. These the ones from Whangarei? I think that dude is actually on Oldschool dude... If your interested in flogging them off, I could be interested. Are the shocks buggered or anything? 02102658542.
  23. So redrilling/modding the 7a flywheel would be the best way about it? Sweet. I'll try start organising someone to help me out with that. Any specific shops/ people I should be looking for? Cheers
  24. I probably would have if this came up 6 or so months back lol, but I've pretty much just finished buying everything I need for my 7age conversion - just needing forged conrods and some sort of ECU to run it... But yeah, don't have the cash/ time to change engine for the 4th time for it haha.
