A lot of this depends what Hawk you've got....
Remember Rootes Group badge engineering. The Hawk is the same as the Snipe - the Hawk was the 4 cylinder, the Snipe (Super Snipe) the 6 cylinder. Think Commodore options circa 1984 (ignore the 8 option sadly - and for that matter the starfire...) The Hawk 4 was never a small 4 either - Think 2.4 litre etc.
If it's a 1959 onwards, a Snipe engine would fit right in giving you 3 liters of goodness. It would also require a crane to lift the bloody thing in. The earlier Snipes run bigger motors (pre '59) but they are only Commer truck 4 litre side valve anchors etc.
If you've got zero money - run it as is. You'll be pretty brave to drive one fast anyway - which makes the motor swap without supporting mods (i.e. Money) seem a bit irrelevant.

Nats Prep:
Oil changed. The Warehouse currently has a special on for 4 litres of 20w50 for $15.00 each. Not fancy oil - just Caltex Havoline. Soon as I brought this I inherited many half used oils from @Mr Burns so effectively a free oil change apart from filter. Warehouse oil will be used next time.
Seam sealed the rear leaking window rubber, replaced a 6x9 I blew due to not porting the boot, ported the boot with an ali trumpet, and applied some bling.
@Threeonthetree sent me a Facepalm marketplace link for some wheels. 1960's Buick Riviera / Skylark etc in 5x5". They need to be restored at some point, but they had pretty much brand new tyres and some gangsta appeal. Cruised over the the shore and picked them up. Bargain at $300.
Filled car up - we ready to go. Car now looks more suitably oldschool:
Bigger profile, bigger width. Cruises at 100 much nicer now. Subtle lowering (Makita 'bro) after Nats.
Chur.

Lots of different size alloy radiators at STA (Segedins Online) at cheap prices, however head this warning:
The alloy radiators they sell, allegedly are all Chinese ones. This isn't necessarily a problem it itself, but the cooling fins are quite small in comparison with more legit ones. If you are confident that your motor is clean and free from rust scale this should be sweet. If, however you think there might be a bit of crap floating around, there is a high chance that those think fins will get blocked pretty easily.
I've also found that walking around pick-a-part with a tape measure sometimes yields surprising results - even if the radiator is poked you have a make and model to order a new one of.
'Auto Radiators' - Nixon Street in the city can very likely fix it. They are radiator Barrys and can recore - but not cheap. I'd guess twice the price of a cheap STA alloy one. They will generally quote pretty quickly upon sighting the radiator though.

A: Hamilton - Tokoroa - Turangi - Taihape - Palmie (well - Feilding/Woodville by-pass unless needed) - Matserton - Featherston is fastest. 7 Hours 41 mins
B: Hamilton - Tokoroa - Taupo - Napier - Hastings - Woodville - Masterton - Featherston 8 hours 8 mins more of the scenics.
Or combo between.
5 Mins diff going the other side through instead of the 'Tron. SH1 however should be ok on a Thursday and more chance for people to join the gang?
My 7 cents.

Thanks to the others for the decent photos. Was a good meet.

This should last half a run - just hot glued on the wheels to see how far I need to cut the springs.
A-Series for the win?

I'm not apposed to starting earlier myself meaning more time for activities on the way
