  1. Will see how I get on. Just goes to show important it is to get the paperwork side of things in the clear. Lesson learned. Thanks for the help guys, really appreciate it. Just itching to drive an old school car built up by myself! Dwayne.
  2. Yeah I just purchased the report before. Although on it they reckon it hasn't been warranted or licenced since 17 years ago Hopefully NZTA make it easier for me...
  3. Yeah it's got JL182 etched it to the windows and I wish it had a glovebox lol.
  4. Yeah thanks for clearing that up. I wasn't wanting to do anything dodgy, I mean spending all the money in the world to get it back on the road legally then not being able to because i hadn't gone through the right processes would be quite gutting. The car has an old wof sticker on there from 2005 however I can't read what the details on it are. The old owner doesn't have anymore info on it and the lead goes dead from there... Cheers.
  5. Ok I had a big look through this topic, however I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for... My situation is this: I bought my escort van out of share excitement for owning an old car and for next to nothing. It doesn't have any plates (and the transport agency cancelled them for the vehicle being unregistered for too long) or tags (that I can see of), hence dead. It was registered in New Zealand before though as it has the original etchings of the rego plates on the windows... I'm looking at buying plates off a guy down the line that are live at this stage (bought the carjam report) and want to use them on mine. However am I going to run into issues here as I have a dead car with no tags? Cheers for the help.
  6. Sick build up man, everything looks to be done to a high standard. Keep it up! Cheers, Dwayne.
  7. Oh true? Do they fit better? They are definitely on the front. I'm not after much power really, be just awesome to see it back on the road though. Cheers, Dwayne
  8. Have decided to work from back to front, mechanically anyway. Soon I'll start pulling it apart, get the diff freshened up, second-hand leaf springs (that I will get reset at some point), new shocks and bushes with a 5spd Type 9 gearbox (if I can get my hands on one!!). I have a new motor being built up at the moment it's a Sierra block with a 1600 head, will come with all the parts like down draught carbs and the pulleys etc, just needs MK2 extractors which I'll probably get from Coby... Going to have the whole front end steering components rebuilt, probably a new crossmember too (as the one in it now is a tad munted) and with new boots and seals with all the parts acid dipped by a mate. Body wise... I'll start stripping the panels off it and get them sandblasted. If they no good then well I'll just get newer body panels. Sand blast underneath and in other areas, buy new floors off Palmside and get the rust taken out and new metal welded in. As I can't weld I will get someone who knows what their doing to do it. The front clip is pretty well out of shape, cost and time wise it will probably be easier to get a new front clip off Palmside too. Please let me know if there is anything you recommend I should do or change in my plans... Obviously to get it roadworthy it will take a couple of years but when there isn't much too these it shouldn't take too long. Cheers, Dwayne.
  9. I appreciate all this and your pretty much correct in what you have said. Ok so I have decided to get this mechanically sorted first then do the body work after. A friend of mine has a sierra block been rebuilt with a 1600 head and twin side draughts that he is willing to sell at a fair price so I'm planning on ditching the 2l. Here is some pics I wouldn't mind answers to if possible. This gearbox is a strange one, it seems to feel like a 3 speed manual but I have never heard of these before, below it is the details on the bellhousing... My mate seems to think this is a capri diff and driveshaft. What do you reckon? Also what type of 5spd gearbox would fit to the sierra block if i purchase the rebuilt motor? ALSO PLEASE FIRE AWAY WITH MORE INFO ON THESE THINGS, I'D APPRECIATE IT. Dwayne.
  10. My inspiration!! Love this thing and your green MK1. Very Jealous. Cheers, Dwayne.
  11. Hi all my name is Dwayne, just joined. I scored this off some friends the other week. IF YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THESE, PLEASE FIRE AWAY! It needs A LOT of work, but I can see light at the end of the tunnel. It's got a 2.0L Cortina motor in it but will need to be ripped out as it just doesn't fit right. Has no plates or tags so I'm just doing my homework before I spend any money on it. Plans, however would be to get it sandblasted first, patch up the rust with new metal and bring out the dents. paint it a nice forest green colour with original chrome redone, and custom interior with bucket seats. We shall see. Here are some photos. Tell me what you think. Cheers.
