Speeduino do mx5 plug and play kits alot cheaper then the megasquirts, could also just get the basic kit and make your own harness adapter etc
They use Tunerstudio as well

@chris r know anyone with a 3dprinter? Get a space plate made with injector bosses in it along with points to mount a rail onto

Car arrives a week from Sunday
Picked up these for it off FB marketplace for $100 they are mint, may get a lick of paint/plastic dip along with a new set of clips before they go on the car
Those that know early 90s lancers will understand how hard these are to get
May pick up a brand new in box 2nd hand GFB blow off valve for it next week as well, my mate picked up an engine stand and crane for me today
Will pick up all fluids for a service next weekend, will paint engine, replace seals, timing belt etc before it goes in and then reuse them on the new 4G69 shortblock I build up when thats ready to go.

Few teaster pics, the seller has sent me
Also brought a cc lancer boot lid (no holes) for 120 including shipping, seller polished it up and its looking mint. Had a $5 1.8 lancer ecu arrive that ill take the header plug off to make an adapter harness with
Going to order some reproduced stickers from the uk for it as well, need to work out if it has evo front guards or not.
Once it arrives ill make a parts list and start slowly ordering bits, trying to get some FTO front drive flanges for a 5stud conversion down the track but not finding much.

Found out today the Garage at the house im in the process of buying also has a pit, means I can check the concrete thickness and then look into clear floor.
Currently looking at
https://www.joelsgaragegear.com.au/products/automotive-hoists/2-post-hoist-clear-floor/
Alot of guys over here use them with no issues, thinking ill put it over the pit but see how I go, from memory the garage height looked higher thrn standard but ill need to get the tape measure out to confirm. Will need to make a cover for the pit as well, its currently full of loose bricks
Anyone got any thoughts?

Evening All, not quite old enough to be classed as oldschool yet but being a 1994 model and 26yrs old its getting close (I hope)
For those that know me I still have an Ae111 in Levin in Nz thats slowly being built, I havent put a buildlog on here as I have one spread across a few other forums. Come Christmas this year Ill have everything needed for it to be finished and will be getting a timeline off my fab guy for completion.
Due to now having space and some funds I can spare, along with more time. I have been keeping an eye out for something to tinker on and setup as a weekend/mild track day car
So I have purchased a sight unseen 1994 Australian delivered Mitsubishi cc Lancer GSR from Queensland and its being delivered on the 24th
Its white so matches the other cars in my collection, seems pretty clean from the pictures
Has a larger fuel system, coilovers, catback, larger brakes and a few other goodies. Its also fully mod plated for a 4g63 and the other mods, so I can register it.
However its currently a rolling body with an RVR engine coming with it. No factory ecu or the aftermarket ecu it used to have, so im going to be doing so wiring to get the rvr ecu going and then will go to a later model evo ecu or a speeduino
The RVR engine is also the 2G style one which has a smaller turbo and is prone to crank walk etc
Will post pictures when it arrives
Current plans are get it all together, running and legal. Get an N/A 4g63 or a Hyundai equivalent to build up with a 4g69 crank, forged rods/pistons etc to swap in later
Hopefully I don't have to many surpises when it arrives.

So I sold this to a learner driver for 1300 as I got a 2013 Liberty Wagon to replace it with, and the Girlfriend got a workcar not long after. I wanted to keep it for track work but the 1gfe was tired and I had limited space.
Shoukd have updated this 2years ago

Convert to efi would be high on my agenda after getting it legal, use a speeduino etc

Has any one tried running a modernish oem ecu on a old engine? I was thinking of using the bosch me7.5.5 from a vw 1.8t on the fiat 1.6 engine for my X1/9. I already have everything so just thought it would be a cheap way of running sequential injection and spark, wideband, drive by wire ect. It can be directly tuned over the obd port
People run Barra Ecus on the sohc AU engines as well

My understanding is that there's a Teensy 3.6 port of the Speeduino coming out at some stage, this thing will be friggen amazing.
Will be more powerful than my $$ Link ECU and has a decent amount of IO.
My ECU is 2x 40mhz processors, Teensy 3.6 is 120mhz with floating point processor, eeprom and other cool shit.
Might give one of those a hoon one day when someone else has done the hard work already haha.Ive got a teensy 3.5 version cost me 229 delivered and assembled just had to source a teensy. In storage atm as the car it was going in I sold

Do you know what caused the orginal ding in the last headgasket?
Air in the coolong system?
Compression tested yet?
Running hot because its a new motor with tight clearences, everything oiling right?
Bypass on the supercharger working correctly? Got an air temp sensor after the supercharger?
Issue is at idle yeah? If the sc isnt bypassed at idle that could be your issue

-
Few Stupid thoughts, is the fan setup exactly the same as previously? Haven't rewired or setup via the ecu for it to blow the wrong way? Is it a genuine Thermostat? Could it be sticking partly open?
-
Can run one of these as an option for bypassing the SC at Idle, another option is running a wastegate in reverse or having a TB open via a vac solenoid. I have also been thinking about a DBW TB to be ecu controlled as a bypass as well (can also tune this or the wastgate to bleed off boost as well)
Wastegate wise I would just get a generic ebay one disassemble to remove swaft and reassemble with locktite etc should be fine for the application

Have also ordered:
1000cc injectors and plugs/pins, will sell the 540cc's
I just got some 2200cc injectors from these guys (9A build)
https://www.aftermarketindustries.com.au/bosch-2200cc
Are 1000cc enough for what you are after?
QuoteWill be changing the 1jz wasted spark coils to Coil on Plug, since the factory ones are known to be a limiting factor, either Yaris 1NZ coils or R35 VR38 coils. R35 seems to be the go to coil-on-plug these days, found a supplier of new Genuine Nissan ones for cheaper than the new Toyota Yaris ones (supposed to be pretty good).
Where did you source the r35 coils from I am keen for 8 of them (1 set for my 9a and one for my next speeduino build)

Also In Melbourne but have nothing hugely fun or cool here
Mrs has a 2019 Corolla as a work car, I normally Daily Ride my Honda Cbr500r
We also have a 2013 MY14 Subaru liberty wagon that is completely stock and only gets used to move the dog around or to pick things up in (really needs a towbar) but is the boring FB25 CVT version. Though its only broken down on me once due to dodgy fuel pump wiring overheating which I am currently awaiting to be recalled.

Yep, I managed to get a bit more wire exposed by removing/digging out the plastic molding. It now clicks with power so hopefully its ok now.
I'm surprised how expensive they are!
Have brought the cheap ones from China and have had 0 issues
Could not tell the difference between it and ones from other sources

is pin height not compression height? none of the piston dimension drawing listed anything else? but i can measure anything your interested in tomorrow. and in more detail/accurate next week
It could be maybe I am getting my terminology out of wack its Friday and I am a couple of beers in
Just curious and hoping that something off the shelf will work for you as 1500 for forged pistons isn't cheap

rough piston measurements are
Diameter - 88.5 mm (stock)
Comp height - 42.5 mm
Pin diameter - 22.0 mm
these measurements were taken by measuring with my dead electric verniers, locking them and then measuring the verniers with a steel ruler. so by absolutely no means definite. but for anyone interested there they are. ill take proper measurements later on and post them here
Whats the pin height?

ive got a lead on an old school reconditioner that 2 of my work mates have worked with (one even did his apprenticeship with him) and a third work mate has been a customer. he sounds experienced and well priced. im unsure what sort of a bill to expect though.
i can buy 1mm over pistons but im not all that sure thatll be enough 1.5mm (90mm) would be preferable if i can find something thatll cross over.
ive not looked at the valve seats, its another thing i didnt really worry about because of the good comp test ect. will have a look once i grab a valve compressor. hopefully they arnt fucked too.
it genuinely did go well. im very surprised to say the least.
Factory 2ARFE pistons might work as they are 90mm
Factory compression ratio is 10.4:1
2ARFE
Head 50cc
Pins 22mm
Rods 157.5mm
Comp height 34.8mm
Think the dome is -10cc from memory and can't remember the pin height (also no idea what 18r pistons pin height is)
Would need to see how they compare but heaps of wrecks around with them so can be found cheap and stock 2ARFE seem to handle 350whp
Wouldn't be hard to work out what comp you would get in the 18R if you know the headgasket thickness and combustion chamber size of the head, if the rods are shorter then youll lose some compression but that wouldn't be a bad thing anyway :p
Not sure if this is helpful or not

You need to make sure you get brackets to suit the calipers as r32 are different to R32 GTR, R33 and R34
R32GTR and R33 are the same
R34 sit higher as they are for a larger rotor and then brembos are different again
https://au.gktech.com/products/brakes/brake-adapters but thankfully they are avilable
You can find caliper identification info online fairly easy

Can run the BA falcon disc (325x32mm)
Height is 45.3mm so might need to space it up to the 54mm height of the stock skyline rotor
Align the center bore as its 71.5mm vs the Nissan 68mm
Brake caliper brackets to suit
Think its DBA 42104 from memory
Or you can go for 370z front rotors
DBA 2314
354x32mm
49.5mm height so may need a spacer depending on how it sits
Brake caliper brackets to suit
Both of these options suit the 4pots you have and can be used with wilwood or Brembo etc upgrades later

Ordered some more parts for my Speedunio (have sold the car it was going into however) also got myself an 8x8 3.5 Teensy setup for sub 300AUD so now have two budget ecus for future projects
Going to Japan on Thursday and once I get back will be putting money into my project car thats still in NZ. Will look around for a cheap hack to play with as well haha

Keep the updates coming. How much have you spent on it so far? Been having thoughts about using my one on either the Viva or the Imp down the line ..but must actually finish Imp first!
Case
Map sensor
Arduino Mega 2560
GM air temp sensor with Pigtail
Speedunino Component kit
Speedunino V0.4 PCB$272.56Aud
I have a wideband that I got a few years back for my track car (which is still being built in NZ) and I had a soldering setup plus other tools already
Could have probably got the components cheaper if I shopped around but got them via the speedunio store as I like supporting it
Still pretty cheap

Give them an email, they are generally pretty helpful, ive also brought a teensy powered setup off one of the guys on the speeduino forum (they also sell kits etc off the forum)
What features are you after, only things off the top of my head it doesn't do is super fancy variable valve timing (vvt and standard vtec etc is fine (on/off)) and no knock control without additional modules. But the code keeps advancing so may have changed. They are great bang for buck on cylinders and can even do full sequential fuel and ignition (4cylinder) also base maps for mx5 are plentyful so you don't need to start from scratch
