Popular Post Type49
Hi everyone Here is the start of my new project, purchased off Trademe a few months ago. Came with another very rusty Mk2 van for parts, all that was worth saving was the glass and live rego. As this one already had live rego I sold it on. Will try and keep updated as I go. Type49
After discussing my plans for this with my painter he said he needs to see whats under all the primer, so have started removing layer upon layer of primer and previous colours... I'd like to know some history of this if possible. It was bright green at some point. I was very surprised/relieved to find the roof and gutters in excellent condition,

Type49
So I have managed to find an awesome friendly panelbeater to carry out the rust repairs. Any panels I can't buy he is fabricating.

Type49
Morning all, so my friendly panelbeater discovered a little rust in both front floor pans. ( Not really surprised ) . So ordered two new ones from Palmside and I'll get him to fit an automatic transmission tunnel at the same time he fits them.
Type49
Some other mods have been happening too, I have fitted Type 49 style strut top reinforcement plates in the engine bay.
Type49
While the van is at the panel beaters i have taken the time to clean out the shed and think about cleaning and painting all the suspension and other bolt on's. I'll make a start on the engine i'm going to use. I have to refit the cylinder head and clean and paint the engine so it's ready to drop in the hole. Spec's are 711M 1600, kent 234 cam, 1300 pistons, double row timing chain, ported head with sport valves, steel rocker posts and solid spacers. Look pretty unloved at the moment but will clean up fine. Was a nice engine in my 1300 Gt i had so should go good in the van too.

Type49
With the engine coming along nicely I thought I'd strip and rebuild the heater.

Type49
Most of the pics are too large to upload. Fully stripped and sandblasted all the parts. Have etch primed now and will top coat tomorrow. Have to repair the matrix as it has a couple of leaks.
