gettinroundtuit
Hi, figured i better get some pics up of the daily hack, (to brokenarse poor to get something 'respectable).Spending most of the time & money driving & fixing it- + buying random shit i may not end up using in it. A pic of the weedy little slug that motivates it, a rousing 45 ponies @ 5000 revs when it was on the rollers a while ago, has a wee bit more coz i've been fiddling @ a pic of what we want to stuff inside it, top crank is avenger bottom is........ toyota. Why? why not i like the idea of it looking relatively standard, AND its a 20mm stroke increase- 1500 out to @ 2L is the plan Discussion Thread
gettinroundtuit
So much for bright ideas, still cant find the crank i need.. Crank i've got is 3y- 2y works out better as we dont have to grind chunks out've the block for clearance. Sissy option is just toss in any random lump that'll fit in the hole, tempting as that is we still keen to go the hard way. drivers side rear wheel arch is gunna get pushed out next week to repair some ancient damage by the 1st owner, wheel rubbing when too many in car
gettinroundtuit
Got bored 1 day & cut up a perfectly good sierra box Sent it away to be glued together & it now looks like this find some time to reassemble it, find the other bits the box came with & drop out the old box & make this fit. Apparently i've tracked down a crank- we shall see.......
gettinroundtuit
Good use for a spare grille badge Got me a much better wheel & had no need for the horn button in the centre
gettinroundtuit
Xmas has come early- thanks to some intensive interweb digging & Smoking Joe, I now have an alternative to the 2y crank, a 3T. Top 1 is 3t looks much the same as a y series. Me is very happy.
gettinroundtuit
W.o.f. time....... fail, soooooooooo nothing good enough in the spares pile, so lets see what change i get out've $1500. Need a tierod end, easy enough. blown one of the N.O.S front shocks hmmmmmm- find something better? Why the hell not.... custom Bilsteins!!!!!. All round Struts head away tomorrow to get new inserts, finish ripping the bits out check them over, a bush kit for the back to stop the diff doing the job the fronts supposed to do... steer!!!!! Better give it a bath in there too, scruitineers wont want to see that mess at its next appearance at teretonga
gettinroundtuit
Decisions, decisions, so much for gettin a w.o.f & gettin sorted for Ranfurly run The reason for the current misbehaving since december.
gettinroundtuit
All sorted & on the road again for Ranfurly, had a quick road test got home - all the water fell out - waterpump let go, grab spare pump - wrong pump-- its for a viscous fan & i dont have room for that one to fit, chop the offending extra piece off & all good. New shockies work a bit too well, bit bouncy round town, good on open road- works great in the gravel though
gettinroundtuit
3T doesn't work, at least not easily, rear main journal is actually smaller diameter than avengers, so.................................. it's been back to the 2Y search. Trademe just coughed up a whole 2Y motor the other day. Plan to pick up next weekend sometime from Dunedin. Engine build will be finally under way!

Now it is, cranks just been welded to suit standard avenger thrust bearing location, way easier doing that than engineering block to suit 2y crank. Next, shave center main journal on block to suit the crank, grind mains to std avenger bearings then........... dig up some rods from somewhere. CA18 det anyone? Avengers dying....... so now escorts been evicted from shed & with needing to swap in another temporary motor, loaded up the wagon with 5 speed box & diff to get them sorted & get them in at the same time ( if they're back in time) patient..... donor...... for a worthy cause. Probably end up with double the power!

gettinroundtuit
Been too long between drinks, got incentive to do something now... On the road by Xmas - this Xmas!!! I have a playpen now to work on the cave dweller & paint it. Thanks to a mate who needed a touch up done & a car painted I now have a shed to work on avenger & not piss off my neighbours.

gettinroundtuit
The windscreens out now, revealing a unexpected surprise... Despite leaking like a submarine screen door it's NOT rotten round the frame. Now comes the unburial. Scarily I still get asked if I've still got it & people miss seeing it smoking round the streets
gettinroundtuit
Not much space to store all the bits coming off. At painting time I want it on rotisserie, need to be more systematic approach for this job, unlike slightly disorganized chaos of last car I've just done
gettinroundtuit
New plan! No rotisserie now. 1. it'll take forever! 2. WHY??????????? The few bits needing attention can be easily dealt with on the hoist! It really is still better than it has any right to be. 1 thing intrigues mewhy hasn't a wof tester ever spotted this??? There's no spot-welds! 2 1
