pbaines
And here we are. Freshly legal! Took a few snaps after giving it a good cane around. I also put my Street CR rims back on the rear as well, cannot stand the 225/60's that were on there previously. Will be going to a Toyo T1R. Haven't finalised my decision for choice of profile yet. Height needs to go up a fraction, little bit of guard rub with the 195/60's but will probably going down to a 175/60 which will resolve it all, and also remove my tire rub at full lock which the cert man and VINZ man both missed...... After going through page 1 and seeing the original interior I got with the car and all of that heinous carbon dipped rubbish I am very happy with how it is looking now! Will be going to the 4&Rotary Jamboree next weekend as well if anyone else is going down. (really sunny when i took this so had to fiddle with the image) I got a whole bunch of switches sent over from Yahoo auctions, 3 aren't wired up though. Might get some blanking plates when I can be bothered. New front air con trim is much nicer

pbaines
So I entered this in the 4&Rotary Jamboree here at Manfield, didn't come away with any awards but did end up the track for good 20-30 minutes doing a so called 'cruise' If cruise means fanging it as much as you can, then that's exactly what we were all doing. Only letting about 30 cars on the track at a time so was well spread out. Didn't stop the quicker cars smoking me though! I also mad dashed to paint the 14x7j Hayashi street's that I had on the front, as per the above images where they had been sand blasted by previous owner so were in need of a quick paint and sand. Chuffed with the result of a 1/2 pie job Will get a go pro and do a good video whenever the next time will be Mingle me //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/49929-pbaines-1985-ae86-corolla-levin/page-2

Have gotten the diff rebuilt at Geartech, no more ear piercing whines from the rear. Also got some Falken 912's all round (165/65/14 on 7jj front & 185/60/14 8jj rear) Now to drive it and enjoy it, until I decide to stick a blowey thing on there to make it go chu chu Discussion: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/49929-pbaines-1985-ae86-corolla-levin/page-2
pbaines
Been extremely reliable over the past month. Gone for 4 extreme hoons down windy roads and sticks like shit to a blanket. Wicked handling on this, like a damn go cart. Definitely the funnest car I have been in. Don't know if I will make it go choo choo anytime soon. I think I might leave it as is and now invest into my KE25. AE86's are a great investment for anyone that's interested. pbaines
Spent a few days tidying up the mess in the engine bay. Much much better than what it was, removed a few bits and bobs. Idle up when A/C is on? no no, idle down to 600rpm. Much nicer on the ears. Due this week: Willwood Dynapro's for the front from Baz at MRP. That should actually make the car slow down when the brakes are applied which will be grand. Black carpet from Japan. The stuff in there before was sort of maroon. icky. That will be it for a reasonable amount of time. KE25 is the new priority. Well, the two of them anyway.. pbaines
Well, been a while. Much has happened with no photos taken. Man i'm awesome. -Have Willwoods in the front, man what a difference! -Have an alloy radiator in the front -Have a new windscreen as the one in it decided to shatter to pieces on the way home from Toyotafest at Hampton downs. 6 hour drive with A/C on full blast, myself and my girlfriend wore helmets the whole time with bugs exploding on our helmets. Cheers to the OS boys who stopped on the way back! I've got some photos somewhere that I will add sometime. These photos are courtesy of.. ahh..... 0MEGAH|HAGEM0 ? just did some cropping and visual edits for aesthetics. Toyotafest 2017 @ Hampton downs. Super happy with the car, once the narrow tyres warmed up it was a weapon on the track! Got it sideways a few times with a grin ear to ear. More track days are required. Due to come -Vertex body kit which will have to be painted
pbaines
So one day I decided that the power wasn't enough and I needed MOAR so have decided to build a turbo motor which will be around 250kw expected BHP using MRP bolt on pieces. ps - I am shit with making up my mind...... motor goes in, motor comes out. rinse and repeat Motor specs are: Stock bottom late GZE setup with ACL and ARP internals Mildly ported head and oversized valves, stock cams for now but will go with some Kelford to suit Turbo engine ARP goodness Pistons go in Covering her up Late model GZE pistons which are 9.0:1 and are factory forged. that is lubricant making them look dented, they aren't... More ARP's I will probably end up going with kelford cams, but I just wanted to get everything setup for the time being I will also paint the rocker covers... One day!! pbaines
Painted the cam covers a nice semi-gloss black I have a W58 on the way, adapter kit from SQEngineering and also trying to sort out a clutch setup too. As it is more a daily driver I would like a Puk clutch type but with springs otherwise will be super bad in town conditions.
Popular Post pbaines
And then it was time to drop her in! Installed the 230mm clutch and flywheel assembly. Had to grind out the T50 bell housing so that everything could fit in nicely. Took half a day to do it.... enough meat to hold it all together I hope!! Extended pilot bearing that came with the SQ-Engineering conversion kit [/url] Super easy to lock up the flywheel ready for torque The goods go on. Popular Post pbaines
I have been a busy boy these passed few weeks. Been trying to get her ready for the Toyota Festival in Cromwell. The plan originally was to use this engine and strap a nice big air compressor on it for some psh psh noises but the turbo won't be here in time so I have had to rip the engine out of the KE25, order some headers and some nice trumpets and drop that motor in instead.... in to the engineers this week, wire and tune next week. lets hope all goes well! Least I can retain my current cert with this setup so that's a positive F series diff with mounts to suit AE86, open diff however I will get an Altezza LSD down the line Finally rolling again. put my super deep dish rims on and gave her a wash. hasn't seen the sun for 6 months so well in need of a clean!! I bought some Vertex Bumpers (front, back) so thought I should probably do something with them. The front one went on with some chopping of the fiberglass and persuasive pushing it around Looks quite nice, but I thought. Na shit no, can't drive this thing around. Need to paint them asap On went the high fill primer and the lacquer paint (1:1 ratio with thinners, factory paint code colour) Mask and paint black Paint went on a bit thick than what I had hoped but I sort of like it because it makes the bumper still look 'plastic' in a way. I will still buff them, they'll should still come out quite nice Whilst the bumper was off I thought I should upgrade the fuel pump to a 255LPH walbro Hmmmmmmm, looks like japman in japan-land has already done something with the pump. Since it has no markings on it to say what it was I replaced it with my Walbro just to be safe Old -> New -> Bumper went on I didn't get photos of painting the front bumper but here it is looking much better Ripped the old motor out, ripped the new motor out of the KE25 and here she is Very happy with the look of the car. I need to make a bracket up to pull the pumper in a bit by the guards but that is a 5 minute job All I can say is.. please by nice to me engine and give me great things Discussion https://oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/49929-pbaines-1985-ae86-corolla-levin/
pbaines
Not too much has happened in this space lately. Popular Post pbaines
So, a lot has happened and the car is now running around again for the first time in a long time. I decided that I didn't have time to get an after market ECU and tune sorted, but I did have time to buy a crashed FX-GT with a small port inside, which I could pinch the loom and ecu from and get this motor I have here running. I swapped in some stock small port cams. The stock ecu should handle the rest of the mods fine! so far so good anyways... anywho: Stock small port loom:2019-02-17 15.20.50 by phillipbaines, on Flickr Unmasked, and all of the unnecessary stuff removed. Popular Post pbaines
It's been reasonably quiet in the past year. I've done next to nothing on this car... since Toyota Fest last year: Drive shaft remade/balanced New rear hub centric rings for the rear discs. This was necessary due to the BMW rotors. I had the centres drilled out to be the same as the Longchamps on the rear. They're nice and snug. The Longchamps have a tapered centre bore so the spacers can't fall out.. Swapped in my 4A-GZE motor that's running on the stock small port ECU for now. Turbo time after Toyota Fest this year Swapped in the original Intake Manifold, runs heaaaps better on the stock ECU which makes sense. Popular Post pbaines
Howdy fellow isolated friends. I got my crossmember adjusted for my W55. Popular Post pbaines
This car has laid dormant for a while. Back before when this was N/A...I had low oil pressure. I mean there was some oil pressure, I could drive it around but it never was as high as it should be. I had to swap the sump over on the motor for the turbo drain so out came the motor, thought i'd check the bearing caps. they weren't perfect and not perfect on a motor that had done 1500 k's since rebuild was not good enough. Took the short block in to the machine shop. Turns out the thrust tolerance was too loose and it was loosing a lot of oil pressure out of there. This was a good find. I had to get the block line bored too. that was expensive. Anyway, $4000 later for a short block rebuild. should be safe to run now. i'm just excited to have everything back and now progress is taking shape 20210124_172456 by phillipbaines, on Flickr How the cars been sitting for the past 6 months... booo20210331_114925 by phillipbaines, on Flickr The motor went back in20210331_162024 by phillipbaines, on Flickr I paid the front bar a nice white.20210331_162040 by phillipbaines, on Flickr 20210331_174441 by phillipbaines, on Flickr 20210331_174505 by phillipbaines, on Flickr Yes, i'll fix the bumper. it annoys me too20210331_174922 by phillipbaines, on Flickr Next, i'm getting the throttle body modified to get a ISCV sorted for it to be controlled by the ecu Then I save some money and take it to NZ Wiring in Petone to get tuned.
