Taistorm
Undersealed the inside floor and boot. Didn't go too hard case as this will all be covered with carpet and shit later but it's awesome having it all tidied up.
Taistorm
Steering setup now back together and finished. Checking clearances and everything is good! Much chur. Steering column will be coming back out and Sam is coming in to paint the engine bay this weekend. I'll be striping the engine back and painting/detailing it this weekend as well. Cheers for looking. Taistorm
Got me some seats today which are out of a s4 FC RX7 as far as i've been told. Overall condition is OK, passenger seat has a tear up the side and also the base cushion needs to rebolstered. Not bad though for $100 including rails. Overall dimensions are very close to the originals so should fit in alright with slight modification to the rails. couldn't go any wider (not that I want to) otherwise it will foul with the custom, wider transmission tunnel. The seats will be retrimmed in the same style as the seats I recently sold (early datsun style, black vinyl with polished buttons). I had also picked up some rear seats a while back from Tristan to replace the rear seats that were stolen when the car was at the old shop, these will be retrimmed to match the fronts as well. Taistorm
Here are the rears. Cheers Tai
Taistorm
Brought the seats down to check sizing/clearance and it looks like it will work! I really forget how small the 1300 is because these seats really arent that big but they only barely fit! They're pretty snug with the widened trans tunnel and don't look too out of place. Will have a play around with the mountings and get them sitting nicely soon. When they get retrimmed I might get old mate to bring the side cushions in slightly as well for better fitment. Also began stripping the engine and transmission back to detail and tidy up. The engine was painted in basic silver/black combo when it was built about a year and a half ago but it has just been sitting since so has gathered some dust and i'm wanting to go down a different path in terms of colour. The transmission had a good thick layer of grime on it so spent about 3 hours attacking it with degreaser, waterblaster, scotchbrite pads and wire wheel diegrinder but shit is caked on pretty hard so gonna spend half the day tomorrow attacking it and hopefully throw some paint on. Here's a shameless instagram filtered pic for good measure.. Cheers Tai
Taistorm
Spent half the day following up from yesterday with the help of my mrs and Alan from MotorElite. Continued stripping back the transmission and cleaning up/scuffing back the engine and intake manifold. And an action shot of the man himself. And here's where we're at.. Crap lighting and phone pic but we've left the lettering on the side of the housings with a brushed finish and yet to throw some wrinkle paint on the housings but damn it's looking good! Popular Post Taistorm
Threw some wrinkle paint on the housings yesterday, came up a treat I reckon. Masking tape has pulled a small amount of paint off so will touch it up later but pretty damn stoked with how it's looking. Taistorm
Quick update. Engine bay still hasnt been painted. The bloke who's supposed to be doing it has been letting us down so we're getting someone else to sort it out. Hopefully it will be done this week. Also have come into some funds with tax return and what not so have some more money to throw at it now. As soon as the bay is painted assembly will be under way then will start finishing things off. Also received a parcel from the courier this morning... Repro bonnet badge and some mint side indicators, will be much better than the current ones that are crumbling to pieces. Taistorm
Not really a real post but have picked up a few more bits and pieces... Custom CAS cover and inspection plate cover from Kustom Cuts. Top bloke Mark sussed it out, will also be getting his repro r100 Garnish & tailight conversion setup down the line.
Taistorm
Also MKIII for the front seats. Managed to pick up a pair of these cheap as chips bro. They look worse for wear but it is really only the bottom cushions that are torn and worn and the rest is dirty. Went to speak to old mate about getting them re upholstered today and he reckons he will have time to do them in about a month so stay tuned for that. Besides this, things have been slow. The guys at MotorElite have been flat out with the build up to WTAC preparing their FD that they havent been able to put any time on my 1300. Now that it's all finished things should get cracking again. Tai
Taistorm
Next phase of the build has begun, i've also started tidying up a few bits and pieces in anticipation. This is what I've been up to so far... Cleaned up the old centre console, ready to be fitted. Fitted up the CAS cover and Inspection plate.
Taistorm
I've also started restoring the standard rear taillights as they had some overspray on them and the lenses were super cloudy. With the left side I have sanded (and wet sanded) to try and cut it back as well as running some polish on it. With the right I have only cleaned and used polish - tested it out to see the different finishes I can achieve but I'm going to go over them again, I also need to do the outer lens sections yet. Huge improvement so far though. Before: After: And here's a picture of the old sleeping 1300 ready to be awoken. What's next? Final assembly of engine and drivetrain then installation > Fit cooling system and thermo fans, pressure test and check for leaks etc > Finalise and fit fuel system, check over > Fit oil cooler and lines, check over > Mount electric ancillaries (starter, battery, alternator) and wire up > Finalise and check over front and rear suspension setup (install blocks and traction rods), set ride height > Fit brake lines and check over brake system, install pull type handbrake setup > widen and weld up rear outer wheel arches. All of this will be sorted over the next month then it should be ignition wiring, base tune and exhaust then ready to fire up. It's getting so close, excitement is through the roof! Taistorm
Engine bay finally sitting in primer now.. Also picked up a bosskit for the steering wheel. Just got a SAAS unit as not to keen on shelling out $200 for a nardi one. So hopefully the engine bay will be painted this week then reassembly can start. Will also look at fitting up the steering wheel sometime this week. Small update but thats it for now. Cheers, Tai
Taistorm
So got some pics from the guys at the shop yesterday... Base coat laid out.
Taistorm
And a teaser for the final product... I'm dropping in to check it out hopefully on Tuesday so i'll get some better pictures then. Taistorm
I tried to get some better picture of the engine bay paint today but it is really hard to do it justice. Also I wasn't able to get it out in the sun so hard to tell its full extent/sparkleness at this stage but here's what I got. Gotta love some 8 year old girl fingernail paint.
Taistorm
And the engine looking right at home... The clutch and flywheel assembly is fitted now. So next we continue with the assembly, alternator sidemount needs to get fabricated to clear the chassis rail, attach the other ancillaries, remount the fuel system components etc. Looks like i'll be getting some custom MCA coilovers made up for the front as well. This way we can achieve more low as it is currently sitting on its bumpstops and there is no suspension travel so would bottom out everywhere as is. We will probably put off the interior retrim until i'm back in NZ now. Cheers, Tai
Taistorm
So kind of changed plans, well more so added to what we are doing. As this is being brought back to NZ shortly we decided we are going to address all the rust to make things smooth sailing through compliance. I spent most of Sunday with the wire stripper peeling back coats of paint and bog to see what we are dealing with. Starting of with the rear quarters and sill as there were signs of repairs here by the previous owners. Here's a photo dump of what I got up to..
