Hey guys, thought id share with you a project I've recently acquired.

At first I had no idea that there was such a coupe like this, I was into corolla coupes, but never looked into coronas. A facebook message from a mate informing me about this coupe and also a sedan, alerted me to it, and I became quite interested. A few txts later, and I had a viewing organised as the guy wanted a quick sale. Unfortunately the guy went on and sold it to someone else. A few hours later, still feeling annoyed, I got a text informing me that the guy who brought the coupe and sedan, was only using it for the diffs. I came in contact with this guy and organised another viewing. I went up and had a look at the car, and as stated, it had quite substantial rust, but luckily none of it was structural. The sedan that went along with it, provided rust cuts for the coupe. I went ahead and said id take the cars, the fact being that the coupe had live plates. The next weekend, I went back up and got the cars, purchasing both for $350 (Both rolling bodys)

First thing I needed to acquire for my car, was a diff so I could roll the coupe around. Im going to be dropping a 3SGE Beams engine into it, so I wanted a stronger diff. I went on trade me, and I found a T series diff with AE86 disc breaks. I ended up buying the diff for $600 and got it picked up from nelson. After it arrived, the first thing to do was to move the mounts, and bead blast it as it wasn't the prettiest looking thing. After this was done, I painted it in black and put it in the coupe. It went from this:

After I put the diff in and I was able to move the coupe around, I began stripping the whole car down. Luckily the car had all the parts it should have, but because the car is quite rare ( I only know of 1 other in NZ ), parts are few in far between, bumpers, and front guards are some of the only parts that I can get ( them coming off sedans ). This meant that removing parts was a lengthy mission, ensuring nothing broke in the process. At this stage, I came across a set of Hayashi Streets that caught my eye, 14x6 and 14x6.5. At $400, they came as a steal and I had to have them.

After cutting what I needed off the sedan, I took the coupe down to my dads work to be bead blasted underneath, and to have all rust and bog ( yes, a previous owner covered rust in multiple layers of bog! ) blasted out. At the moment the coupe is in a local panelbeaters (Wilsons Windscreens and Repairs) having the rust repaired. I will endeavour to keep this updated, but as im currently still at school, and building this up with the money I make from an afterschool job, progress is quite slow. I will leave you with a few photos of when it was blasted.

Bit of an update for you guys, seeing as I havnt been on here for a while. The front end of the car is now rust free! So stoked about it The rear end is next on the list to be repaired. They are talking about getting a fabricator to make up a new panel for the rear (below rear window) because its too far gone :( Im not looking forward to finding out how much that's going to cost haha. Also the roof and rear guards are all sanded down :-)

Thought I'd try and bring this thread back to life a bit. The coupe has almost been fully repaired, rust and panel wise, and will be returning home soon to have its new heart put into it. I got a 3SGE Beams and 6 speed gearbox about a month back for $1400, which I thought was a pretty good price! Other than that, very little has been happening to the coupe. In other news, I recently got a 1988 MKII LX76 (Diesel power!) Wagon for $250! Just need to do a few things to get a warrant, then its all legal and ready to hit the road! Put my Hayashis on it for a bit, and am thinking about leaving them on there, and looking out for bigger sized ones for the coupe. Will try and get some pictures of the corona, and chuck em on here soon! Also, the guy panel beating my car has found another coupe out on a farm just out of town, just waiting on him to go and pick it up! So excited to see what its like.
