Mr. Mainstream
Hey guys, Mk2 Ford Escort, when i turn the car OFF the red alternator light turns on and stays on. alternator seems to be working fine and it has new battery. If i leave it for more than a couple of days it drains the battery. Goes away when turn car on. Any Ideas why its started doing this? peteretep
so your saying the light stays on even when you take the keys out of the ignition? if the ignition is turned on to 'on' then the light should be on as the alternator is not charging it sounds like voltage regulator might have crapped out
Mr. Mainstream
yeah even with the Key out it remains on. it seems to be charging fine and battery volt is normal. The hasstle is that i have to disconnect battery as it slowly drains it. Strange :/
peteretep
hmm, maybe put an ammeter on the affected wires, maybe there is a short somewhere providing 12v to the light all the time. although i have a feeling + is supplied from regulator in which case it could be the regulator. one of the problems with having a function where a light goes on when there is no charge is that it can also shit itself
