Still ticking over with this 

I did clean this rust up and give it a paint before covering it up.

Ordered a tool shed power file to finish off the welds. Waiting for that to arrive.

Picked the next spot. After the big piece on the corner this was so easy. Nice to see my skills improve.

Starting to get the welds dialed in. Should have stripped the paint back further.

Made some progress on the outside of the big corner job above 

Welds got a bit hot and bowed out a bit, so I dug some more bog out. Bit of a mess under there.

Did some more digging.

Managed to make it a bit better with hammer and dolly. 

Weld up the holes.

Last of the rust in this door.

This mirror was useless and not original.

 

Now it’s gone

I put the door back on to check the body lines.

 

Hit it with a hammer in a couple of spots but pretty happy with it considering the bog I took out.

Then I thought I would see if it still runs. Hasn’t been started since lock down. Connected the battery, primed the carb...

Started first turn of the key. Let it run up to temp and gave it a rev for Trev.

Took the door off again. Decided the passenger door lock can go in the bin with the mirror.

I wasn’t sure if I was going to post this cock up. A bit embarrassing. First time I have used 2 part primer and bog that’s not newtech.

 

Start of January I mixed up too much epoxy primer and slapped it on way too thick.

Info sheet said to add filler after 25 minutes. I thought that was a bit soon, so waited a couple of hours before I mixed up too much bog and slapped that on. 
Checked on it a bit later...

FAIL

After a week of feeling sorry for myself I ground it off again.

and put on a thinner layer of primer.

sand, bog, repeat...

 

Close enough for 10 days before Wagnats 

 

and seal her up with epoxy primer 

 

It will need a bit more work, but at least it’s good enough to go out of the shed.

Got the door back on, lined up and glass in.

To get the window out, you need to remove the quarter window first. Installation is reverse of removal. Of course, I forgot this, but got there.

I haven’t done any more panel work. Wagon has been sitting in the shed except for Wagnats and Swap meat. While cruising around at swap meet the starter was threatening to leave me stranded by clicking and not spinning. Pulled it out and gave it a once over. Brushes were still good, solenoid contacts were worn, so got a shiny new starter solenoid.

3 years later!…

poor old wagon sat for a year between Wagnats as we moved house and then had no where to park it. Built a shed and got it to its new home.

not long before Wagnats 24 I noticed a small amount of petrol under the pump. Rockauto to the rescue. Note cars with aircon have a return style pump.

A couple months after that I dragged the wag out for a monthly meet. First time out in the cold in a long time, I could smell coolant. Turned out to be the heater tap. Cars don’t like sitting around. Once again rock auto saved the day.

 

Poor old wag doesn’t get used much and I really don’t have time or energy to dig into the next bit of rust.

Anyone want to buy it?
