Managed to pick this up no WOF since 2007, reg on hold, cracked paint, rust in the firewall and spare wheel bay, but interior in mint condish.

Her she is the day i got her, standard Ghia 1600 Kent with sport gearbox and diff.

managed to score a wreck for parts as it needed new rear doors and boot

So weeks past and it slowly came together and its now my daily driver to and from school Its really ragtag Blue rear doors and a primed boot. (will put up pics tomorrow)

Will slowly post up progress on the beast but im a poor high school student so itll be slow and painful but bear with me.

Found out its got a windscreen leak, got an alignment aswell.

Not been upto much lately but got a set of these

But the drivers base is real rusty

Needs a reupholster so if anyone recommends anyone in palmy/manawatu area holla

Failed my WOF due to this as well

Also took off the poos Ghia vinyl roof to reveal a few dents and it smelled like shit. Its got some dents but only small minor ones

PINTO POWER! So yep came home from New Caledonia to a worked pinto and a type E gearbox from dads old MK 5 Cortina up North. Anyway pictures

BIG update!

Gah so finally got some school work out of the way to start taking apart the Pinto with dad opened it up to be pleasantly surprised of the work its had done and the condition of it after sitting for 20 odd years. Anyway pictures.

Cam is in good nick dosent look to have been reground.

Ports will need a good polish. New valves also.

Pistons out. They are 0.40 thou overbore with minimal ware if any.

Crank has been ground also and balanced. Rods arent factory so could be forged items also had 0.25 bearings on em.

Also abit late but thanks to Simon the major rust in my boot wells is now cured

So progress has been super slow!

But have attained an F series diff from an estima i think so will need to get shortened to fit the escort. Also need to get some R31 rear brakes and handbrake linkages and mk1 sierra cosworth rear brakes to set up the rearend.

Also picked up these fibreglass sport bumpers for cheaps so will get them on soon.

Dad got me welder as well! Its gasless MIG but for $150 cant really complain, does the job anyway. So we fabbed up this rig yesterday and we didnt do a bad job i must say!

She'll be off the road after nats and first upgrade will be the brakes so volvo 4pots and focus calipers front and R31 skyline rears on the back with sierra rotors.

And of course with a less than a week till nats the Escort has developed a mis fire at times, carb jet is possibly blocked, And it has no power through the rev range idles for 10 seconds then shakes like a wet dog and shits itself Anyone know what could be wrong and if it can be fixed before nats?

Havent updated this sinces nats! And ive been a sad sack and have no photo's for you boes.

Well she's been in the garage since last month when the reg ran out and ive just been collecting bits and peices so as of today i have:

-Sold my f series

-Got a 76 b1600 diff which is perfect length at 1380mm

-Got FD3S 4pots for the front end which ill have to mock up

-Got a mk3 cortina GT console

-Started my rust work

-Stripped the car so its a rolling shell

-Started sanding down the car

So again plans have changed and im abit on the fence with the engine for this beast Mighty Pinto or Ford/cosworth Zetec

Ah so ive got off my arse to actually update this build thread!

Right so ive been taking apart my b1600/Courier diff to be pleasantly surprised. I intent to do a write up of the diff change and comparison with the escort diff as its a really good change/alternative to the hilux.

First: Its nearly exactly the same length as the standard escort english live axle

Escort:

Courier/B1600

Also as you can see the 4 stud pattern is actually 4x108/110 just need to get the hub machined down.

Also it has a semi floating hub setup which helps carry the weight of the vehicle on the axle shaft itself. And its held in packed grease!

Also has a diff head that reminds me of a hilux its massive! Pity its a 4.8 ratio :/ But it does have 31 spline axles which are very meaty

Also heres my FD3S calipers which i still need to mock up

BIG thanks to Richie aka Snoozin for carting down my new wheels from Auckland! They are some kind of cheviot rim.

Also the Escort is now rust free!.... For now

Last piece of rust cut out right hand side of the rear windshield

Anyway thats whats been up lately regarding the escort and being term 3 at school its abit busy, but rugby season is done so that frees up some more time.

Pictureless update!

Dads got the week off so he is going to be starting the welding in the back while im at school, so win for me!

Im also looking for an LSD head for my diff, been reading and anything from a Ford courier and mazda b series upto 2005 aparently fits so on the lookout for one in 4.1-3.6 ratio as my tiny 13"rims will be spinning so fast at 100kph!

Wow not alot has happened due to me doing exams at the moment, oh well last year at school so will grind it out.

Mazda 1.8BPT and a 1.6B6, mx5 gbox and some other rwd stuff so was a good score!

Update

Today I took out the front struts and stripped them down ready for my coilover conversion and brake overhall ala mazda FD3S 4pots and BMW e30 vented rotors.

Will upload pics when the struts are welded and the new brake set up is mocked up!

So the coilovers didnt happen, mainly to me seeing some capri struts....

Ive also purchased a complete brake set up from a ford laser tx3 for the sum of $30. Score.

So my rears are sorted. Ford laser tx3 rear calipers and sierra rotors.

Have also sold the BPT and mx5 box for a hefty sum helping contribute to the escort!

Checklist for this weekend:

1) Tidy welding up and bog

2) Organise diff machining

3) Capri strut prep for coilovers

4) Order K-mac 24mm anti-roll bar

Well I thought it was high time I updated this!

As of last Friday I was accepted to under go NZ Army Officer training for the year with a 15 year offer of service, its a massive commitment for me being 18 now! Its a rare opportunity for anyone and is only bested in my eyes by the likes of NZ Commandos and SAS.

So that means that the escort will have to take a back seat for a while, but dad has said that he will do little things to her while im on BASIC.

So plans for the escort over the Christmas break

:Build Pinto to use for next year

:Give it a quick rattle can spray

:Get my fishnets in

:Rebuild front end, new bushes.

And a n update is never good without a picture!

Ive rebuilt my FD3S calipers and my Laser TX3 turbo rear calipers. Sprayed with black VHT caliper paint.

Today is the day that I catch the bus up to Waiouru to start a year long Officer training, which is bloody scary being 18.

Work on the escort will cease for a while, but more money means more progress so bare with me itll be slow but ive go big plans for the escort a la fuel injection and 11:1 compression with itb's.....

Wow long time no update oldschool!

Ive been back from initial officer training for about a week now and ive cracked on a fair bit and spent a few dollars on the escort!

1) Capri struts fully welded to coilovers by KE70_wagon aka mitch

2)FE3! Very happy with the new FE3 ive got. Its a high comression variant so 10:1 cr. Gearbox is sussed with the mx5 one ive got and a 2.0l petrol courier bellhousing. Plans for it will include itb's or dual carbs, porting and balancing.

3) In my spare time today i made a hybrid CAS from an mx5 and FE3 CAS

4)Also bought some AP 4pot calipers from an Austin princess with new stainless steel pistons and seal kits, should be here soon enough!

So I head back to Waiouru for the rest of the year with about a week off every 2 months but should be worth it when I get my comission to 2nd Lieutenant and 57k.

Goals for the year will just be parts hoarding and trying to crack on with the escort!

So back for the week so thought id crack into it!

Been playing around with the fe3 and mocked up this.....

Looks soooo good! its definitely getting my motivation back up and giving me something to look forward to for when im back home.

These beauties of 70's racing pedigree arrived

And i managed to get some original mint bathurst globes 14x6 for a small sum!

So things are looking ahead for the escort yet. Order of priority now will be the front end so a large order will be going out to the UK in due course.

Fully guttered i didnt make nats but i was instead walking with a pack in the waiouru military training area so fun fun!

Wow so back for the weekend, thought id get into it!

 

So finished the bellhousing conversion from the courier box to the Mx5 box!

Now to sort the clutch combo.

 

Im thinking an FE SOHC clutch or an F2T clutch? Opinions?

 

And one of the things im really loving at the moment! My modified KIA sportage cam cover to look like a BDA/BDG cam cover, will wrinkle it up tomorrow.

Very happy with it!
