yo, just scored an auction on tardhole...$415 thank you very much please cum again....

auction details were:

1981 transit van

Was set up as a camper

LD 28 turbo diesel

4sp auto

Dyna power steering box

Subaru front discs and calipers

Toyota discs at rear

Subaru leone seats

4 good tyres

Certified

Engine runs, smokes alot, possible turbo seals?

so will go pick it up, get it home, check the turbo out.

if the turbo is sweet ill just look for another motor to drop in it..

should be easy enough..

will lower it a tad to ease the towbar tongue loading as my trailer is quite low..

looks like someones put some effort into it, its even got a tacho, hope its for the diesel...

win

picked it up today...

set off from home at 8.30am and got home at 8.30pm....gay

sat at vtnz for 45mins waiting for a wof check on my trailer....fail, bloody brake line fitting is corroded..

so carried on with no wof,lol..

got there, he chucked in the battery and it fired up mint, gave it a blat on the diesel pedal of power and the smoke was grey, then blue..

oil cap looked sweet, oil on the dip stick(cue indian paul henry joke) was normal but low, coolant looked good.

so no transfer of oil or coolant etc..

so now my thoughts are definately turbo..

for some reason it has to be in reverse for it to start, so i think the inhibitor switch is fucked or something, needs to be sorted anyway...

seems to idle fine, and the turbo sounds mean, love turbo diesels....

its also got a good radiator in it that looks kind of like a merc/bmw item..twin thermo fans, and a trans cooler.....WIN..

will get it off the trailer tomorrow and fang it round the country block, see how she goes..

oh ,and have allready done dirty desel single wheel burnout on the ramp of the trailer...yo

well i dont think i can give the tranny any sackage as the front beam rolls under the leaves style and im not keen to de-arch the springs as itll make them arch the wrong way, not cool..

so ill keep it as is...

the brakes work sweet although they pull to the right so ill check shit over before the wof in december..

i adjusted the fueling on it and reduced the smoke:air ratio by 90%, now its just a faint hint of blue, most likely the turbo.

turbo looks to be a stock l28 turbo, so once i find out what else can bolt on ill look at replacing it, unless of course i can find a stock turbo for a l28...

then ill also look at putting in a intercooler..its running 7psi...

havent done squat to this in ages..

ive thrown some mid gloss black over it cos the matty b was shite...

although shes not much better cos i couldnt be arsed sanding it back properly..

free paint anyway so meh....but the crazy cracks are still there..lol

ive ripped out the old shelving and crap from the back so its a proper van now.

want to get a wof on it, then pull the ld28t out and put in a 4l falcon motor, cos rego and rucs are too friggin expensive..

so, anyone want an ld28t? lol...

oh also found that the brakes pads are around .5mm thick...yikes......replace or nah???

seeing as weve sold our proceed and were down to only 2 vehicles (2000 explorer, tranny van) and 2 transport trailers and a stockcar  weve decided to get the van back on the rd..

so to do that i know i will need new front brake pads, cos its practically metal on metal...

all in know is theyr subaru calipers, but model is unknown...

also need to figure out how i can get it to start in park rather than reverse..

get the reverse lights to go...

thats all i know of that itll need..

once it has a wof, the ld28 will come out and a l20et will go in

will need to find out how it gets wired up...the exhaust off the ld28 should bolt straight on cos its got a l20 turbo anyway..

ill try and fit the ld28 trans to the l20,so i hope like fuk that works out..

mounts should all be the same....

just need an efi pump, the van has a elec pump but i doubt its a high pressure one....

choice

pick up another ld28 this weekend, got it cheap, so why not..

will get wof, reg, ruc and sell i think..

on another note i won this on trademe, was an impulse buy...

quite cheap i thought..

has a mild cam and flowed heads...vr motor.

picking up a running manual vn wagon tomorrow night..

mainly after the loom,ecu...will see if i can fit the vn crank into the vr cos its a manual so has a flywheel..

choice bro

pulled the old ld out the other night...what a mission...i pulled it out with the trans attached..

the driveway is now covered in atf...dammit

swapped the turbo and manifolds onto the replacement motor...a few things were different on it compared to the other one..

but should still do the job.

the old one had a water cooled oil filter housing, this new one doesnt....the sensors are different aswell..

the replacement motor appears to have a new water pump on it too..score

got the engine and trans back in today, another bloody mission...but shes in,and 90% hooked up.

just need to bleed the fuel system, fill the trans with atf, hook up trans loom,do up engine mounts etc,put exhaust back on and fire it up...hopefully

oh,and this replacement motor doesnt have the rev/tacho sensor in the timing cover,gutted...

i might have to try and take the old one out of the old motor and see if its easy enough to put into the replacement...

got the replacement engine in, but it wont fire up.

not sure whats up with it.

tehres 12v at the injector pump switch

fuel flowing at the pump

glow plugs glowing..

maybe the cranking speed is too low...does seem to be slow...

got it running...the ip was bone dry..

fixed a trans leak from 2 pipes rubbing together.

will get it into a sparky to sort the alt, i dont think its getting triggered..no light and no charge..

will also get them to sort the guages, they keep blowing the fuse out..

want to get the tacho sendor put in aswell...will need to take it off the old motor and put it in the new one.

but this motor runs sweet as...

once all thats done ill take it for a wof,cos my sister offered me some coing for it..

will sell to her unless someone else offers me good coinage..

had a big win today...scored a contract for next season-farm manager...less time to play, but more money...win
