Hello all.

Just thought i'd post up some pics of the mini that im attempting to do up for the wife.

Its fun cos I havent really done any kind of resto before so I'm learning as i go along.

This was how she looked when I got her.

ceilsmini-1.jpg

Looks good but there is a fair bit of work under that Ford blue paint.

Front flare test fitted and the disc brakes from a 2000 mini fitted. No more drums for this old girl!

I dont know if its very original but i shaved the boot. So there will only be the numberplate/recess and a lock.

DSCF0284.jpg

Also I just tacked up the new high stop brake light.

Looks ok considering it still has the weld burns and is just tacked in place so not finished off in this pic.

highstopsmall.jpg

And the reason its there is cos it is the wifes car and shes a dodgy driver at the best of times and i figured this was better than just sticking one in the already tiny back window.

Also i mounted up a new aerial and welded up the old hole.

Got the front windscreen out and that also shows the crx seats all fitted and mounted.

The drivers seat has been rebolstered so fits like a race seat.

DSCF0313.jpg

The brake light and aerial. The brakelight is moulded in so it doesnt look so huckery. Still needs some finishing sanding but you get the idea. And the aerial is all wired in and ready to be powered up.

DSCF0312.jpg

I found quite a bit of rust around the fuel filler spout so i removed the tank and cut out the rust. I completely welded over the fuel filler hole, filled it and then redrilled the hole so it looks all fresh and new.

DSCF0311.jpg

DSCF0310.jpg

And lastly i moulded in the drivers side rear wheel arch. Looks a bit tidier than just riveting it to the panel.

DSCF0319.jpg

I filled the indicator recess and moulded in the front wheel arch.

DSCF0321.jpg

As you can see i had a wee bit of a gap between the arch and the bodywork...so i glassed it up.

DSCF0320.jpg

This is the drivers side arch after it was glassed and filled and primed.

The parcel tray behind the rear seat is like swiss cheese so instead of trying to fix it I've just cut the whole thing out and am making up a whole new one from a sheet of steel.

Thats about as far as i can go on the body work till it gets sent off to the panelbeater on Monday to weld up the major rust holes for certification.

Once its back i will post up some more pics as i keep going with things.

Sam.

OK...this is just some of the rust that is about to be fixed.

Under the petrol tank...

Drivers side of the boot...

DSCF0334.jpg

The missing parcel shelf...

DSCF0335.jpg

One of the rust holes in the passenger side front wheel arch, its right next to the door hinges so this is why im not too happy to do it myself.

DSCF0337.jpg

And this is the new stromberg carb thats gonna get fitted once it gets rejetted and given a good service.

So I stopped playing with my trike long enough to do some work on the mini this weekend.

I have been hunting for months now for the perfect exhaust tip but couldnt find what I wanted...so stuffit...I'll make it myself.

DSCF0349.jpg

DSCF0351.jpg

So its a 45mm inlet and about a 5inch outlet which is about an inch high.

And of course its not a mini unless it has a centre exit exhaust so I figured this would look a wee bit different.

Also lets play a game.

Lets play "spot the numberplate lights"

DSCF0348.jpg

So now apart from a paint the boot lid is all finished...YAY ME!!!!

so I've been super lazy when it comes to the mini lately but this weekend between swims was a goodie!

Made a new rear parcel shelf from some sheet steel yesterday.

the shitty old rusted cut to shit one!

DSCF0323.jpg

from this...

DSCF0324.jpg

to this...

DSCF0369.jpg

DSCF0368.jpg

...and today took off the skin of the passenger door...

I tell ya its not too pretty inside them doors thats for sure, but it could've been a whole lot worse!

So tomorrow i will try to weld in some new metal to replace the rusted mess i cut out of the frame.

DSCF0371.jpg

Its all a learning curve i tells ya but it was gonna cost me $1200 for a panelbeater to do the doors and i just dont wanna pay that!...(I guess thats the penny pinching Scotsman coming out in me).

And incase I didnt show Y'all earlier this is the zorst thats gonna go on the mini...a good old RC40 mini box with my home made tip...all attached to a straight pipe of course!

DSCF0372.jpg

Also did some welding on a guys stepdaughters car yesterday...turns out he is an autosparky. So now hes gonna rewire the mini for me and sort out the earthing probs...sweet...more money i dont have to spend...YAY ME!

That is all!

went to the manliest place on earth today...aka pick a part...and got some Jaguar xj6 rear seatbelts. Am replacing the static fixed rear belts for retractable ones...make things a bit tidier.

Will get pics up when they are all mounted n stuff.

That is all!

here are the belts all mounted n stuff.

Just need to weld the retaining nuts in place.

DSCF0373.jpg

DSCF0374.jpg

I even managed to find a set of belts with the factory covers...just like my dads old Austin Allegro had when I was a kid!

DSCF0376.jpg

I over engineered the mounting so it shouldnt have any probs come cert time.

DSCF0379.jpg

Its just a retaining nut through the sheet steel from factory so I figured this would be a safer option for anyone who was unfortunate enough to be riding in the back seats.

Also it looks just a wee bit different from the average mini...which is what I was aiming for.

That is all!

So its a boring update...but its an update!

Stripped out the hardware in the doors today ready to swap into the new reco'd doors.

Thats the last bit of the body work to do on the minge.

Now all I gotta do is strip the roof and inside the cabin, remove the engine and strip that too.

Then its paint on!

Holy shit balls I actually did some work on this today!

Decided that my next project to keep me busy should be this.

So I picked up a grinder and tidied up some VERY ROUGH WELDING from last time I tried to fix the rust in the doors and then did some welding on it too.

So The door is still on the welding bench so it will see some more work.

So I guess is what Im trying to say is...Watch this space!

OK...So found a place in Te Puke that is a mini specialist so I got a set of these and cut out the appalling ones I had made and badly welded in a few years ago.

So I thought Id just throw on a couple of tacks and finish it all off on the weekend.

Turns out I got carried away and next thing you know it was all but done.

photo%201%2034_zps5ohnbl7g.jpg

photo%202%2033_zpsutvl1r4e.jpg

So today after work I attacked it with the grinder and flap sanding wheel.

photo%204%206_zpsqnvegsh4.jpg

I couple of pin holes to fill and a crack or 2 where I hammered out a couple of low spots and I THINK its ready to put the innards back in it and reskin the fukker.

Im quite pleased how easy it all was and now Im not sure why its taken me this long to get on to it!

Will start on the disassemble of the other door and crack into it maybe on the weekend.

So this may look like a picture of a mini on blocks but dont be fooled!

photo%2038_zpsog4xr0xi.jpg

This picture represents a major milestone!

The passenger door has FINALLY had all the rust cut out. New steel welded back in surface rust sanded back. Dynamat. Cavity waxed and finally a brand new door skin lovingly folded around it.

It even works!

The innards are in it and its window goes up AND down and the door lock even works!.

Yes it still needs 4 spot welds and the window seals etc put in but the seals will wait until the paint is done and I will do the spot welds a bit later...probably after I've done the other door...as Id rather do them at the same time.

So anyway...thanks for enduring my post.

Ta.
