Went into bike place today him = confused as fuck. Still, helped how he could, checked through a Wiseco piston catalogue, to no avail. He was a bit slow on the take though so that's still a potential avenue.

Next stop was having fun with the staff at the local Diahatsu dealer.

"What would you say, if I said.. '1974'"

I'd be a little concerned an...

"You'd want more information? Information like... 1974 Daihatsu"

OK, now I'm worried

:lol:

Good bloke, was of no help, though he did try, scoured through the information he did have but he couldn't find anything that far back.

So, email to http://www.daihatsu.co.nz

Hey there, I have a query for you fine people.

I have recently purchased a 1974 Daihatsu Max, it runs a 356cc Two-Stroke 2cylinder motor and previous to my ownership it had over-heated and seized, I am now in need of some replacement parts. Namely pistons and gudgeon pins. I went into my local Daihatsu dealer and they were of little assistance due to the age. Understandable if not a little disappointing. So, if Daihatsu NZ could be of any direct assistance that would be fantastic.

Thanks in advance,

-Michael Oldenhof

There was even a little section that let me fill in what car I had. "NZ New", "1974", "Other"

Sweet, so now we wait.

If no assistance is offered through Daihatsu NZ I'll have to try Daihatsu Japan directly, I guess. Unless someone else has another option?

Well, I think it's safe to say that they didn't even try.

Their response was so fast that I doubt they even considered contacting Japan on my behalf, half an hour between the confirmation that I'd sent a query and then the response as such;

Dear Michael

Thank you for your email regarding the Daihatsu Max you have recently purchased.

Unfortunately production of parts for this vehicle has since discontinued, so we are unable to assist you with obtaining new Daihatsu genuine parts.

However, we recommend you contact any used vehicle parts trader in your region to attempt sourcing items for your vehicle.

Once again thank you for your email, we apologise we could not be of assistance in this instance.

Kindest regards,

Katie Carkeek

Funny name for someone in the Automotive trade though. :lol:

On to Japan!

Fuck, onto a lead!

Was searching YAJ, stumbled upon something that that looked promising. Changed a few parameters and BAM, found several manufacturers of L38 Daihatsu Max rings.

Japan;

Riken also do Full Piston Sets but if I can get away with only rings that's probably a better option.

China;

Taiwan;

Obviously would prefer the RIKEN option so I'll do some digging.

Mad stoked to find a lead though.
