shizzl
well i was making the mounts today...got half way through cutting the steel and my grinder gave up in a puff of smoke.. dang...might go steal works grinder for a couple of days
shizzl
well i finished the mounts on the crossmember today. went to do the gearbox mount.decided to cut the rubber escort mount out with the grinder.. big fukn mistake!!!im covered in little bit of soft rubber....gay..oh,and the house fille dup with rubber smoke.. oops then i found out ill have to cut the side of the tunnel for the starter motor, cos its too narrow for it to fit in..gay.. atleast the engine and box is sitting in there unassisted by jacks i know one mount looks crooked,it is on purpose... the engine bracket is on that angle. now it leaves enough room for a sump to be made. shizzl
my droptank turned up today...sick. looks like i cant use the outlet on the sender as a return cos its half way down the tank..its the fuel pickup. anyway, what ill do is plumb the return into the filler neck. when i mount the tank ill make a funnel type bowl for the filler tube to mount to, that will be mounted to the rear panel by the tail lights,in that will be a little overflow pipe exiting from the boot away from the exhaust overall purchase is mint...$140 delivered for a 75L droptank
shizzl
on closer inspection, and a few mins with the tape measure.. i pulled out the old tank, and decided ill just use the stock tank. but i do need to get the sender sorted, hate not knowing how much gas is in it.. so its to the sale yards for the droptank.. and on closer inspection of the tank, its baffled too..bonus. pitty im not using it though.. keeping the tank will allow me to keep the boot stock and maybe ill put a sub or 6x9s in it later on. shizzl
even more progress today!!! wtf i dont know whats got into me... anyway i started on making a sump..from scratch.. actually easier than i thought.. as you can see from the pics,i traced a pattern from the sump gasket, cut that out leaving about 5-8mm extra outside the gasket line, then i drilled 4 holes, then bolted the new plate to the old sump, drilled the rest of the holes then the extra 5-8mm ill bashed over the edge of the sump to form a strengthening trim thingy,i thought itd work, dont know, looks the biz anyway. so then i bolted the new plate to the bottom of the engine, measured where i can put a bowl. its gonna end up only holding 3.7L of oil, which isnt far off the stock capacity anyway.. so then i cut out some steel for a bowl, then re-thought my design, recut some more, and ended up with a bowl that i cut a strip out and wrapped it around for the shape, then ill tack it in place once i get a welder, then make a cap to sit over whta you can see,ive got a nut that ill weld into the bottom for a drain.. then with the pickup,i think ill end up cutting alot of the pipe off and using some hi temp oil hose to relocate the position of the pick up...im sure itll be fine.. very tempting to do a dry sump so heres some pics of todays effort..im really held up now by not having a mig... shizzl
well, i won a set of water seals on trademe for the 10a.. so looks like the PP build wont be too far away, even though its back on trademe.. everytime it goes on there and get calls etc i get motivated to do something on it,and end up buying parts.. so bought the seals.need to find the other bits too.corner seals, rotor bearings etc.. bought 7M of 3/8" fuel hose aswell...trademe is good for buying.. it would be nice to find a set of 10a endplates somewhere so i can fill the ports in for dedicated PP motor. will also need a 12a front cover and electronic dizzy...and gilmours
shizzl
not much progress... just sat the sump i made in the to see how itll sit and things.. i then figured that ill throw away the engine mount design i made up and make a whole new one.. i just dont like the look of the current one.while looking at it for 10mins i came up with an awesome way to mount it,that will be stronger and better looking, and able to bolt a 12a or 13b onto it later on if i decide to throw the 10a out..but yet again im stopped in my tracks by a lack of mig welder.. kinda sucks not working either cos i can save to buy one.. in other news,i sorted my fuel return, now i dont know 100% if itll work, but a scabbed a t piece fitting off the escort manifold, and it was a perfect fir to the fuel pump, basically ill have my return running into the fuel pump intake as you can see from the pic.. do you guys think itll work? shizzl
well i feel very productive today. spent a couple of hours in the shed. cut off the old ugly mofo mounts, and made up my brand new good looking crossmember.. you can see in the pic the ugly mounts on escort xmember, and new crossmember above it. the xmember is actually the swaybar mount brackets, with a cross bar..rx7 rubber mounts and 75x75 angle as a front bracket,so simple,i cant believe i didnt think of doing this at the start.. its also dropped the engine down a bit too which is good.and pulled it forward probably 20mm. which means bigger sump bowl..im still waiting for my crossmember spacers and grip washers for the front..then i can put the escort xmember back in and the do the gearbox mount.. shizzl
wow,had a huge burst of enthusiasm today and unassisted by drugs. just made my gearbox mount, its all honky dory and sitting pretty.. only have the sump, tunnel and drive shaft to do,then exhaust... and because i managed to make new mounts and things, its made the tail housing of the gearbox more level so theres heaps less angle for the driveshaft yoke.. shizzl
well ive been getting fully F***D off this last few days. i ordered 2 plates to be made at the local engineers on the 6th june. apparently theyv been made and put on a courier but they still havent f--n arrived..called in there today and they have no idea where they are....grrr i need them so i can put my sump on to check clearances again and make up my headers before pulling the motor back out to finish welding the tunnel and fire wall.which is finally making progress. basically got the whole of one side welded up,along the top of the firewall, and part way along the other side.. once that sides done, ill make up the little box cover type shapey thing to go where the starter sits, then weld that up. then ill under seal the bottom of the tunnel and pooh up the firewall and get the engine bay ready for a splash of paint.. then obviously paint the engine bay.. still tossing up whether or not to rebuild the motor, but ive applied for a job in japan so i may really need to sell by the end of the year anyway. but any progress is good even if it is slow and painful.. shizzl
ok,took a chill pill.... havent totally given up on it yet.. my clutch slave arrived yesterday..although a bit pissed theres no rod/pin with it.. then i pondered over the fact that the hose fitting is a banjo type. but...i just found a stash of braided brake hoses i have and hey presto, pimp bling status for clutchness... still waiting for these bloddy spacer plates to arrive that were supposedly sent on the 6th!!! gonna order half a sheet of 3mm steel too so i can make a new sump. or will 1.6mm or 2mm be better.. i think the stuff ive been using is only .8mm or 1mm.. its damn thin,so any kind of arc effect blows it out..grr
shizzl
did 99% of my fuel system this morning.. mounted the pump, ran the hose from the tank to the pump,i had to snake it around the back of the leaf spring, didnt want it between the leaf springs and body. ran the main line down under the back seat, through the seat support rail(?) along the base of the tunnel and up through the old heater holes in the firewall. then ran the return the same way and hooked it up to the pump with the joiner i rangied up..i still need to attach the hose to the rear around the spring area, and put hose clamps on and put the fuel filter inline.. i also cable tied the hoses together.. i figured ill run the hoses next to the drivers seat rail. because theyr fixed back setas on non sliding railings theres no moving parts to catch them and munt them for fire effects.. odd seeing 3 hoses going to the pump ae,2 on the t piece is the tank on the bottom and the return on the top..im sure itll work sweet thoughts?? does anyone have any idea what this thing on the side of my carby is? the bit with the terminals on it>>>>>im stumped.. shizzl
righto,so after months of hacking grinding and welding, scratching head and my nuts..i decided to sell the 10a,and go back to the piston... mainly due to my stockcar arriving and needing to spend time on that instead. so,the engine and box has been sold. the racetechs have been sold.. so now im left with a rolling body with and enlarged tunnel. question is,what the fuk am i gonna put in it??? ive got the original 1300 here, but its no tyre burner. trying to find a cortina/sierra motor down here is like finding a golden pube... 4age would be the go but the gearboxs are worth too much for some reason...??? a rwd ca18de would be nice too,but i really dont want to have to take the booster out. so not left with alot of choice except going the flinstone route.. so i went out and bought a brand new pair of shoes, cut a big hole in the floor, and painted bones on the side of the car.. no but seriously i have no idea what im gonna do with this... anyone got any reasonable ideas that wont cost the earth, seeing as ive already spent $8k + in the last month on a stockcar and a truck, new helmet and shit....and i still need to spend more..doh. shizzl
it seems no-one has a escort rusting away in the corner of the back yard anymore. cos i cant find a fukn engine or box crossmember anywhere.. i have the stock 1300 and box just waiting to go back in once i get the crossmembers. still have the seats due to the sale falling through...pitty...not.. got a set of factory headers and exhaust to pick up for it. the one i had on it was shit as,sounded crappy, looked crappy, was crappy.. will put it all back together and put a twin throat carb on it if i can find one under $150 with manifold...to me the cheaper=the better.. then ill get it all legit and flick it off... shizzl
update: had this on trademe in jan..sold for $300.. but now they still have paid for it or picked it up.. so will be getting it back together.. bolted the box up to the motor today, starter on,still turns over on starter.. waiting for the crossmembers to be sourced, then ill slap it all back in.. put some gtx or other shite jappa seats in it.. find an old codger at a garage to do a wof then use it as a daily to work..
