I'm not having a winge . Just really missed the relaxed style in the way the meeting are held where we all have a look at each others cars and talk about them. I'm keen for any where and I agree its just a really busy city now days

It is all so Grey but at the end of the day they have your parcel and if you dont pay you wont get it. Then start the charges if they store it for over 5 days . Its like a hit and miss game now . Good Luck

Any result Shane? Maybe ph Wilson he may still be working for DHL
I just paid it . lesson learned buy $20 under $400 to save the risk . You win some and lose some

Just Burton Power they use DHL . And I over spent by 43 cents bugger pissed me right off $0.43 cost $130 dollars. And i triple checked it so unsure need to see the invoice
-
The bill is $130 so I would say $60 is for the gst content and rest I know for sure storage is one as I have asked in detail about all the charges when I imported my Lsd. But there was quite a few. I cant remember half of them. Just wanted Lsd so just paid the bill. Will get bill from them tomorrow, was only a call today to say I needed to pay this much to get my stuff.

A lot of point missing here which is creating confusion.
It's goods to value of 400 NZD inc freight currently before extra duty is due. Some items will slip through, no rhyme or reason.
I have literally bought hundreds of items from overseas via internet purchases in the last 15 years.
You said DHL are the ones saying you need to pay extra....?
Having paid duty on good before, you are contacted by customs for duty payments owed not the freight carrier. The goods have to clear customs upon entry to NZ prior to going back to the carrier. No pay, no release of goods. I was sent an invoice by customs, as it is a government tax which goes to the government. It is not not paid to or on paid at all by a transport company.
That value does not make sense either. The only time I had to pay duty was for some triple carbs from USA a they had a value of around $1000.00 NZD. This led to a duty payment demand from customs of $125.00 (gst at the time was 12.5%) go figure.
Sounds fishy to me....
I'm going to ask Customs tomorrow as its DHL asking for the money to have it released . I have all the time in the world still waiting to get the van back . So if I am forced to pay for it I will make sure it cost more than $70 in labour for DHL as a thank you . It just seems like a way to make extra money

They can charge you GST on whatever value they want really, they just don't usually due to it not being worthwhile. How often have you imported stuff? You say you have imported items many times? Perhaps they keep a record of how much people are importing? Dunno.
Around 3 to 4 times a year but have been buying parts for a few years now . Happy pay GST when I order larger amounts just seems a bit hit and miss with this one. First time I have ever been asked for an under $400 amount.

This site tells you exactly what you should need to pay http://www.whatsmyduty.org.nz/
"I thought I could bring in up to $400 worth of goods tax-free?
There is a common misconception that goods purchased online from overseas websites for less than NZ$400 can come into the country (be imported) without incurring any duty, GST, or charges. This ‘rule of thumb’ does not apply to goods that attract both duty and GST, such as clothing, shoes, and accessories. Customs charges maybe payable when the value of these goods exceeds approximately NZ$225."I like the part Charges maybe payable what does that mean? Maybe to me means I have choices or maybe I dont? They also say they dont collect GST under $60 so much grey what the hell

Guess I'm going to have fun with DHL tomorrow

I must have just got some lucky lady this is the law after 30 mins looking around there web site $225 is the amount http://www.whatsmyduty.org.nz/faq
Less than $60 GST but $70 in DHL charges crap
-
Yes total including shipping $396 . Yes it says that on there web site about the $60 . I just think it is DHL are revenue gathering . When she said that it was changed years ago I went thank you have a nice day . Some thing is not right
-
I have always been under the impression that if you get under $400 worth of parts for overs seas there was no GST or other charges on this . Bought some stuff from the UK in the weekend just short of $400 by $4 and got a call from DHL today saying I had $125 in charges to pay .
I was told that it was changed to $225 years ago . I am confused over this have imported many times and and never come across this .I had a look around on the customs web site and they make it hard to find what I'm looking for .
Dont get me wrong when possible I support kiwi owned business . But some times the parts I need have to come from out side NZ
Has anyone struck this lately ???
