  1. For sale as parts/whole unit due to too much work required to fix in a short time frame. //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/40448-fs-toyota-starlet-kp61-parts/
  2. Thanks mate. It would have been better for that "repair" not to have been done at all. I'll do some more work on it in a day or 2.
  3. Another panel removed and a big chunk cut out. The car has been supported to prevent any sagging.
  4. So I pulled off one of the panels for access/a better look. Everything seems to be one skin thick, so I think I will give it a try.
  5. I pulled the guards and doors off so I could get better access to some areas that need work. I then discovered some more rust, which I half expected. Right front. A plate, lots of filler and sealer were added in some time ago, and a lot of rust has developed. The rust around the door hinges is just surface rust. I guess that's something... After a look-see... Other side isn't as bad, but needs work behind what you see here. This is way lays behind the previous pic. It's probably not worth continuing with this project at this stage, but I'm going to pull some pieces off and see exactly how much work is needed before I make my final decision.
  6. So long time no update and not much work getting done. However in the last month motivation has kicked back in and I have managed to get some work done on this thing. Starting with finishing off the patches on the right rear pillar. I decided the welds on one of the boot floor patches weren't good enough, so I decided to redo it. It came out a lot better this time. Rear end patch curved to fit and welded in. Bumper, hatch and lights seem to fit nice enough. This piece is quite rotten. It is supposed to have a lip all across the top. I would prefer to replace this piece instead of repairing it. So if anyone knows of an Auckland wrecker with a KP starlet please PM me. I also pulled the windscreen out as there are repairs near it that need to be done. Luckily there was no rust underneath! Hopefully there will be more to come soon...
  7. Very nice KP! What car is the radiator designed for when you ran the supercharged K engine? Were any mods (apart from new mounts) needed to make it fit?
  8. thanks for the comments guys I don't have any at the moment, but next time I get my hands on it I'll take pics of it.
  9. Small update, not much has happened. One of the many issues this car has, is the link between the key lock and the ignition barrel. For some reason this has broken off, and it needs to be fixed or replaced at some point before I get it on the road. I'm not sure what material it is made of (I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to identifying metals), so I don't know if it can be welded to for repairs. I may be able to stick 2 pins through a plastic block, but I don't know how long that will last. Best thing is probably to replace it. I decided the rear panel piece I made earlier wasn't good enough, so I started re-making it. I am now out of welding gas, so no more welding until I can refill the bottle. I just need to curve and trim it, then it is ready for welding. Made up a panel to mount some gauges on. I was only going to gave 2 gauges, water temp and oil pressure. But I decided only 2 wont look right, so I made room for a 3rd gauge. I'm thinking either a volt or air-fuel ratio gauge. I also put in the severely cut springs that came with the car as spare for a laugh. Also installed shorter rear shocks it came with to see if they stay captive, which they do. I wont go this low, its a bit silly. Thanks for reading
  10. How bad is the rust? I cant imagine it would be too hard to fix compared to mine.
  11. So it has been a very long time with no update, but I finally have one . I have been slowly chipping away at it, doing a little work on it every now and then. I borrowed a shrinker/stretcher off of my Dads mate that I needed for a few curves. I bent a flat piece of steel over a broom stick, then used the stretcher to curve it into this: Welded: Some pics missing, as I couldnt be bothere taking any. Made up some gap filling pieces and held them in place with some neodymium magnets: Tacked in: Welded: Pic missing of flattened and clean welds . Trial fit of the interior pieces and seal just for fun (its been a long time since ive seen them on): Some more grinding needed under the plastic: The hatch now closes, but sticks out about 5mm. I need to do something about that. The latch and surrounding area will be coming out so I can do some repairs around it. The piece that will fill the big hole. it still needs some more stretching and beating before it fits right: I've also done some work on the top of the right rear pillar. It went from this: To this (I cut out some more of the gutter and rust killed it all): And now currently to this. Just 1 more layer and its done : Massive hole in the passenger floor: Patch panel that will be going in (still needs more trimming): A basic model of the dream:
  12. Where did you get the radiator from and how much? My car needs a new one as its cracked, and got 50% of the cooling fins missing. I have a working radiator fan motor you can borrow in case your spare one is stuffed as well.
  13. Before you go cut your springs, I have 2 rears already cut that I wont be using. They may be a bit low but you can have them for free.
  14. As much as I would like to buy a car for spares, I don't have the space to store it . I think the rust in the foot wells is the only common rust my car has. The rust at the top of the spare wheel well is strange, there must have been a prang there or something prior to its dodgy rust repairs. It cant be that hard to fix it all, as its all reasonably simple shapes to bend up. I will try to find a back cut, as it will surely come out nicer and hopefully be easier.
  15. Not much has been happening due to being low on funds, but I have finally come up with what is hopefully enough money to get this thing back on the road. I have a list of parts that I am after: Radiator Carpet (front, rear, and boot) Driver and passenger side doors (bare but with seals) Driver side guard Front valance Gear lever leather/cotton boot Factory or TRD gear knob Please PM me if anyone has any of these parts for sale. I'm not sure whether to buy the back section of another starlet, and swap it with whats left of mine, or to bend up new metal and weld that in. I would prefer to swap the rear section, as that will hopefully look the best, but maybe bending up new metal will be cheaper or easier? Any ideas on whats would be best? Same for the front foot well rust. Thanks, Kevin EDIT: Have purchased most of the parts I am after
