  1. Ok I've tracked down a clutch cable which I should have by the end of the month (these are getting real hard to get now, they don't make them new anymore, and every old Holden wrecker I rang told me i was pushing shit uphill) A mate of mine has the Pedal box I need, so I think for now I'm going to use that an will look at a concentric slave setup later down the track, A mate of mine made me a custom fire extinguisher for the car so am pretty stoked with that If anyone is interested in something similar flick me a pm an I'll pass your details on to him And it was my birthday a couple of weeks ago and my in laws got me a $100 Repco gift card, so I bought a fusion head unit and put that in today, not a bad little unit it has no CD player so is quite small, will play radio (which the old headunit didn't) and will play/charge my iPhone, so all sorted. All in all we are heading in the right direction, Am contemplating buying a VN loom an ecu, as they are much simpler than the VS stuff I've got, which means I'll be able to wire it in myself. But will see, if I keep the VS stuff then I'll be getting a sparky mate to do it, but I'd like to say I did everything myself so will see where I end up Anyway, cheers for all the interest/ideas/info etc, it all helps with my motivation haha
  2. Awesome cheers mate, is good to hear from people with actual experience of products
  3. Yeah I've been doing a bit of research and have found this kit. http://www.rwdmotorsport.com/toyota-w-series-dw56-hydraulic-release-bearing-kit.html It's around $270nzd plus freight, so not as bad as I was expecting. I've emailed them an found out that the compressed length is 47mm and expanded length is 57mm so need to get the flywheel, clutch fitted to the engine then fit the box and do some measuring. In the meantime, a mate has a cable pedal box, and I'm just waiting on confirmation of a cable from another mate, so may run that to begin with.
  4. Yeah I hear what your saying bro, but one piece Simmons are better than one piece look-a-likes Honestly if they did them in 18s I'd be more interested,
  5. I have thought ktrips about that but I'll have to do the maths on costs etc, I may look at getting my engineer mate to weld a lump of alloy onto the bellhouse so that I can mount a slave, I'll just have to get some measurements of a supra clutch fork an go from there Yeah I've seem the 20" Simmons, they are very cool, but there is a couple of reasons I'm not that keen. Firstly I don't want to go that big coz then you end up with a rubber band for a tyre an I'm getting too old for that shit, and I also think a car of this size really needs a bit of sidewall, Secondly they're very well priced, so every man an his Commy will end up with a set And lastly if I had a spare $2400 I'd have the motor in an running already haha
  6. And the parts keep coming!! Have picked up the lightened flywheel an clutch from my old bosses vk racecar, Also picked up my CRS bellhouse, and the GC threw in another clutch, a Holden cable clutch fork, and a gearbox mount (which I needed). May have to get a cable clutch pedal box now as the bellhouse doesn't seem to have a provision to run a slave cylinder, And as we know updates are useless without pictures so:
  7. Got the diff all cleaned up, calliper pistons an slides were all nice an free so gave them a one over on the wire wheel an coat of paint. Got some new pads an hoses so slapped them on. Getting quite good at this rattle can rebuild lark
  8. Well finally getting around to putting up some pictures Here's the engine after the rattle can rebuild It's still waiting on a few bits an pieces to finish it off but it's getting there. I was also lucky enough to be given a disc brake rear end for free, just had up go to morrinsville to and take it out of the car before it went to the scrappies, managed to shoe horn it into my work car (Toyota Yaris) So will clean it up, machine the rotors, get some new pads an hoses, and give it a coat of black, would be good if I could find an LSD centre, but I think that will have to wait until after the engine is in the car.
  9. Stoked. Picked up my gearbox, looks all good (except for the shifter, it's seen better days) Also picked up my p/s pump, alternator, an associated brackets Have been so busy at work that I just got my auto sparky to slap some new bearings an brushes into the alternator, cost a massive $77!! Also got my brake adapter brackets , so still on the lookout for a set of FC rx7 four pots, Engine gaskets, water pump and little bits turned up so an going to start putting bits an pieces back into the engine, also got some engine enamel to give the engine a lick of paint!! Gonna start stripping my K-frame down and get it blasted and powder coated, my friend father owns a powder coating company so will get looked after there which is good!
  10. Cheers man, you are a wealth of knowledge! Also Shakotom do you know what ratio is it
  11. I'm in Auckland, Is VH same width as VL? What sort of $$ are you after, and how urgent do you need to sell?
  12. oh ok, well ill keep that in mind, ive already got the brackets under way so ill persevere for now, but a disc brake rear will be something i keep my eyes out for,
  13. Haha you were probably on Recruit course as I was putting my 717 in, if I had've stayed in it would be my 13th anniversary on Wednesday. X2 on eagers for hotties, but good luck finding them in a suitable size
  14. Hurry up an get those hotties on man, they look awesome!! What do you do in the Airforce? I'm a former Supplier!
  15. Fantastic cheers for that mate. Yeah the reason I've gone for the rx7 callipers over the vt stuff is the rotor thickness issue, vt stuff is designed for 28mm thick rotor. And you can't get vl rotors in 28mm only 22mm and so there always the concern that once you go past half way the pads could fall out. The only way I could go to thicker rotors is to go to aftermarket hubs and separate rotors Rx7 callipers are designed to be used with a 22mm thick rotor so was a cheaper/easier option for me, and there's a reasonable range of higher quality aftermarket pads (there maybe for vt stuff but I've never looked into it haha)
  16. Cheers for that mate, Got my gearbox sorted, put a deposit down on a W59 that I'll pick up on the 24th!! Also scored an alternator from Zebra for $45 so I'll slap a couple of bearings an brushes into that (and it will still owe me the same as an unknown 2nd hand one from trademe) and it will be all good to go, Ran an errand for an engineer friend the other day in exchange for him making the brackets I need to run FC rx7 4 pots on the front (along with V8/Turbo 290mm rotors) so am keeping my eyes out for a set of callipers, hopefully this will provide a good pedal feel with the 30e booster and master, as the Mazda stuff is designed to run off a 13/16th master and the 30e one is 15/16th. If not I'll grab a VS plastic booster and VT master as it's a well documented upgrade from the factory vl stuff I've stripped the engine down to be re-gasketed, so today I took the sump, rocker covers and timing cover to work an put them in the turbo wash. Man I love the way that cleans years of grime off!, so I'll grab some engine enamel an finish off the rattle can rebuild. Wifey came through with some good prices on the genuine stuff I needed Full engine gasket set $64+ Water pump $60+ Thermostat $10+ 90 degree hose from water pump to inlet manifold $8+ So that should all be here sometime next week an ill slap it all back together Spoke to my auto sparky the other day an confirmed him to do the wiring. While I could do it myself, I've decided to get him to do it as he will have it done in half the time and he's gonna remove all the stuff from the rb30 loom I don't need, and make it look like the injected motor loom has been put there from factory, Now it's just a game of "hurry up and wait" while I collect the last big pieces: clutch, driveshaft, radiator and bellhouse (which I'll be grabbing from my mate in feb) and then work out what small niggly bits I need!!!
  17. Cheers mate, I now have my K frame, VN rack and lines, throttle cable, p/s pump bracket, and alternator. And will be picking my p/s pump and alt bracket in the new week or two! At this point everything has fallen together quite fast and easy, I've pretty much only got gearbox parts left to collect!
  18. Yeah if you could get me the part numbers that would be awesome, hopefully get a good price on parts (am in the trade so have some good contacts) have got a flywheel from my friend so that's sorted, Also, when I picked the engine up, it turned out that the guy was wrecking a VN V8 wagon, So (once he has removed them) im grabbing the K frame, P/S rack and lines, Headers, and a throttle cable, and I've heard from another mate that thinks he has the alternator bracket, and a P/S pump so going good in my parts collecting now, Anyway enough talk, here's some pic's
  19. So the 30e box is still in the garage, however there is a reason, as i stated earlier the plan was going to be to put a 304 into it, this was a longer term goal, but i sold my dirtbike the other day which freed up a few pennies for me to spend, So tomorrow im picking up VS SS 304, loom, ecu and starter motor, And then next week im picking up a CRS turbo pattern to toyota W series hydraulic clutch bellhousing I now have a list of parts i need to collect, V8 K frame, W series box and d/shaft yoke, Flywheel and clutch setup (need to work out what pressure plate, friction plate etc i need) Headers - am after a set of HSV headers as they work well enough VN P/S rack (needed so that the headers will clear) Alloy rad and fans, And an ignition Module - Am going to price up new genuine as the Wife works at Holden Head office, FC RX7 4 pot rotors and VL turbo 290mm rotors (any one who has driven a standard VL will know how crap the factory brakes are) While im collecting those parts I will: (again will try to use as many Genuine parts as i can) Re-seal the Sump, Replace Rocker cover gaskets, Replace crank and rear main seals, Replace water pump, there is probably a heap of shit ive forgotten but ill get there, Sorry for no pic update, will post pic of engine tomorrow
  20. One step closer to my manual conversion, picked up a 30e manual box from my mate, with supposedly noisy bearings for $100, so pulled that apart last night an took the cases to work an put them through the turbo wash a couple of times to get all the oil/dirt/general grime off, just need to pull the gear cluster apart an get some numbers off the bearings so I can get some prices.
  21. Haha you guys crack me up, it will do them, it just takes a while to over power the brakes haha
