You only needed to go to the previous page
The whole house including purchase price of the truck, which was $6500, cost no more than $25,000. That max. So pretty cheap i think. We did a lot of reserch for cheap stuff and mainly used second hand timber which saved a heap. We sold the Bedford to in England to some bloke from France and that was $14,000 towards the build. -
loving the stealthy rename!

Home and warm/dry now. Wind was incredible between Blenheim and Nelson, gusts strong enough to drop my speed from (indicated) 95 km/h to 60, while jumping 600 mm to the right.
Also soaked to the skin through PVC and Goretex!
Awesome weekend, great bunch of people. Looking forward to doing it again, but maybe not on the RMX...
How was your ride Jeff?
-
Good point. Dave (big louie) can you please pm me the map.
Glen and dave know where It is and I roughly know. Plus we have their numbers.
Will - you will probably spot our cars on your way down as we should be parked up somewhere hunting crays...
Any sign of ice on the whangamoas?
-
I PM'd Big Lou but no reply as yet, would be great if someone could PM me the address as I didn't write it down!
I'm looking forward to that coffee too, just hoping I sleep well tonight, missions tend to bring out the insomniac in me! Packed tools and baking, cleaning visor at the moment.

Is that blue one a Honda Bently? They rule!
My guess is something along the lines of a suzuki A100?
Good guess!
-
Will- you can always meet up with us in Blenheim sat morning for a coffee break eh? We will have to stay in touch. Then you join convoy from Blenheim too.
Sounds good, I think you've got my number, but I don't have yours, I guess you're just playing hard to get...
Has anyone suggested yet that will should come via the rainbow road?Only me, I have some contacts that mean a key would be possible even though it's been closed since Easter Monday. The only reason(s) I'm not are;
- that a mechanical would be terrible, with no rev counter I'm not even 100% sure on how brutal I'm being (actually I know exactly how brutal I'm being, poor wee thing
)
- You have to be self sufficient (tools and survival) to be granted access
- Island saddle is 1350m and likely to be covered in snow this time of year
- I'd have to rent a PLB
- Not a lot of traffic on the road if I do come off...
- It's not actually shorter than going round the coast
AND I'm too young to die
If it was still open i would be doing it through the Rainbow -
3? 3 pm is for suckers. Once the roll is done I'm off...I'm right into the key competencies, one of which is 'Managing self'.obvious troll, I was writing report comments until 10 pm tonight
Ah yes, your work is miles closer than the Brook. Will plan what I'm taking/carrying and drop it off. These repeated frosty mornings have me a little nervous about getting the gear I carry right...
edit: Also EvoBilly? He seems to have dropped off OS since Nats, did he buy one too many cars and his Mrs cracked? If someone has contact details, could give him a text?

Hey Alex, little bro is pulling pin so I will probably need you to take down a sleeping bag/tent/bed roll/dry clothes if you've got space in the Viva? Quite happy to go self contained though as tent sounds like it could be an optional extra...
-
Felix/Glenn, no pressure, but. You are the critical mass, that is all.
edit: I'm sure you'll stay if it's at all possible...
-
Far out, didn't realise you were doing dash on this too, looks awesome! What are the interior plans, camper, or many seats?
-
You need a perspex sheet in the floor to keep this visible!
-
You'll be fine but just make sure you take many warm clothes. Remember we can take what ever gear you don't want to carry in the viva. We will be driving to blenheim on Friday night though so we can go for a run sat morning on wither hills. You're welcome to ride over to Blenheim Friday night and stay at my olds if you want to split the trip in two. But I'm guessing you want to do the trip as a whole in full day light? I would...
Edit: Will is no stranger to driving big distances as he told us a while back he used to drive from Nelson to queenstown for a shag? Or something. Maybe work. But a shag sounds better.
Sweet as, little bro is almost definitely coming so he can stack a few bits and pieces in (note to self; stop drinking all my homebrew). Cheers for the offer of accommodation on Friday, plan is to get away early on Saturday. I reckon it will take 5 hours tops, but aiming for sub 4 hours.
Haha, first year after uni my mrs(wife now!) lived in Queenstown. So every second week, 800 km after work on a Friday, back to Nelson on Sunday afternoon. Wore out 4 Goodyear NCT 5s in 8 weeks...

Your a madman wildcat. I mean i know im riding from chch to hoki same weekend on my 50 but nelson to kaikoura! Mad . Esp by yourself
If it was still open i would be doing it through the Rainbow, so by state highway seems like a piece of piss. This bike was originally bought by a mate of mine to do the Dusty Butt 1000 in 24 hours (1000km with as much gravel as possible) http://www.db1k.com/
So 260km should be a walk in the park!
-
Did 60km today on the RMX just to see how it goes up hills on the open road. Managed an indicated 80km/h climbing over the top of Moutere Saddle, 105 km/h down the other side (I'd love to know how many revs that would be!)
looking forward to it

Will on RMX 50
ha- will be a epic little trip on that. Good effort. Your brother and his integra more than welcome (he sold his rb powered silva and bought an integra?!!)
It was/is his wife's daily, red, auto, ~130kms and incredibly rough but economical and reliable. They're looking at buying land at the moment so tight budget wise but he will be super keen to go for a dive/surf...
-
Alex & Hannah in the Viva
Felixx in the Angrybox
Jeff on the CB
Will on RMX 50
possibly my brother too, (but he'll have to park his POS Integra down the road)
-
Yeah Viva would make any would be haters swoon, done...
-
We went for a wander up to Waimarama on Sunday morning so had a little nosey past, no Hiace so I assume you guys were out, such a wicked spot.
-
so give them a receipt from the guy you got it off and a letter from police to say chassis number is not of interest?
pretty much my plan...
VTNZ were happy with this about 4 years ago, guy there was a super GC and he mucked around with the system as the GL145 I was re regoing was built out of three bikes, plate from one, frame from another, engine from a third. As its pre 1991 iirc it doesn't need a brake declaration.
-
Sounds grand, I know bugger all about the area so looking forward to it!

Been having a bit of a google, as far as I can see they're not keen on camping unless you're self contained, no nearby DOC camp sites, apart from this.
http://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recrea ... puhi-puhi/
..and it pretty much fails the serious pre-requisite of fires being allowed.
I'm wondering about contacting local camp grounds direct to see if they're keen to do a deal, but still, unlikely to be allowed fires.
Girly option could be this...would probably be cheaper than tent sites even.

Food for thought, I'm hoping someone knows a paddock we could borrow...
-
Cheers Alex, I was gonna be a tough guy about it but I'll need ever bit of power I can over the Whangamoas...Will give you a box of homebrew also if that's ok?
-
A beer from me if you arrive by small bike! We could possibly give you a lift back to nelson on Sunday and put bike in back of van.
Challenge accepted...leave pass approved also. I'm not sure if I'll need the ride back, will do a test run over to Mot in the coming weeks to see how it copes in a 100km/h area
It's not physically a small bike, made in Spain, sold for $5500 in 2001, when the RG150 was $2995 and the FXR150 $3495
But the engine is very small

A guy I work with has one with a side car. If the look spins your wheels the GL400 looks virtually identical...
