  1. So my old 94, 360,000km Caldina has been causing problems by over heating. Suggestions? It has a slow drip from the water pump but I keep and eye on the water and it seems fine. Should I do a big radiator flush with some additive? Drive it round with the heater on full? Open to suggestions, only seems to overheat after 30 mins on the motorway. Auto box. It could be time to upgrade to a late 90's wagon.......

If you want proper 4WD, then Mitsi Outlander, or Nissan X-Trail NT31 model have a switchy dial to select mode.

I think Vitara/Escudo do as well, but with the 2.5 they drink a lot of gas.

    RAV-4, CR-V are AWD or anti slip/skid.

I've got a 2007 X-Trail 2.0  4 WD in black with 96k arriving from Japan at the weekend.

p.m if you want more details.

those x-trails any good? would the 2l struggle to tow a light trailer? Chur

Tangent, recently bought a 07 CRV for <$10k. Full leather, heated seats, cruise control, 9l/100km. Obviously not as sporty as a Legacy/Outback but it was cheap and its comfy as.

Only mention it as if AWD required as it was for us we were deciding between Outback and CRV. CRV was cheaper so thats what we got

    is the boot as big?

The turbo models arent bad if they have been well looked after, which is really the issue in NZ. The 2.5l non-turbo is the one to really stay away from, very prone to blowing head gaskets.

Have owned a few turbo models and driven a couple of the H6 ones and my pick would be a pre-facelift (if manual, or facelift if auto) 3.0R wagon. Bulletproof engines, lots of space, awesome gearbox and plenty of power on tap.

    what year is pre facelift?

Bit of a side question, how you guys financing these new Utes? Buy them out right? Lease? Revolving credit mortgage?

Then claim back all the GST and depreciation during its working life?

I also want to know the best way to do this

  6. Prefer opinions about reliability, mpg rather than looks but post it up. Looking for a family wagon that can tow a trailer, reasonably safe, big boot and higher off the ground (rural metal driveways abound!). Also what would be a better choice than this, as I'm upgrading from a 1993 330k caldina. Budget= Sub 7k

  7. I almost bought a holiday home in Ohura. $65K for a half acre and a three brm house. Thought I couldn't go wrong for that price, but we decided it was too far from Auckland and we wouldn't use it enough. Couple of years later....................it was worth about $25K
