Wicked car man, good work keeping it oldschool with the 4K.

I've got a lot of upholstery supplies from this crowd before, awesome selection of all sorts.
Reid & Twiname
The website is a bit crap & doesn't show much
Cheers for that they are just around the corner from my work, I'll give them a call.

I am re-covering the headliner in my wifes E36 BMW, I have removed it from the car and am in the process of scraping all the old foam off the shell. I need to buy a couple of meters of foam-backed headliner fabric, does anyone have any recommendations in Auckland for a supplier?
Cheers
Patrick

I have one of those 12V sealed batteries for the fishfinder on my kayak, it has spade terminals instead of posts. Can I just use a normal car battery charger on it?

They are A-fuelers aren't they? Not top fuelers (not supercharged)
So I think they are usually a low 5 second pass, would still be cool to watch though and I will probably be there.

Cool car. Is it a 390? Is there much room around the sides for headers?
My father has a 61 thunderbird and the cast exhaust manifolds weigh a ton and don't look like they flow that well, bu there is not much room for anything else.

Well done on the rust, really good to see you didn't give up and just kept chipping away at it. Looking forward to seeing how it looks after paint, are you going to stick with the factory colour?

I went to Ferrari museum in Italy last year. Can't remember name of town but think it was also name if a Ferrari.
Then thrashed a scudera 430 or something... Amazing machines
Modena I think isn't it? I went there with my brother back in 2007, loved some of the prototypes that never got released, like the rally cars etc.
I went to the BTCC final at silverstone in 2006, it was good but there were no ATMs or EFTPOS and we didn't bring enough cash for beers etc. Rookie mistake!

Awesome find!

Yeah when we saw you going the other way we though we must have missed one of the clues! We had fun chasing an ariel atom over the hills towards whitianga!lol yea i saw that falcon it was awesome man! my mate fell in love it with. i was in the light blue escort that was going the wrong way in thames cause of a blown motor and crawling home

It is on at the moment now right? Lets hear from you how it went.
I'll be honest I hate these sort of things as they are so artificial. It should be a race but you can't go fast. These 'event' rallies tend to be a wanker magnet as everyone is pretending to be wild and crazy for the 2 PR girls and a camera crew for the video to promote the next years race.
They told you take 6 condoms as the marketing people want this to appear like a Vegas trip with Charlie Sheen. But the nearest you got to a Dirty Sanchez were the 2 guys in afro wigs vying for the biggest hair award at the DJ Elmo afterparty.
We had a good day, really enjoyed it. No problems with dickheads ruining it for everyone, hardly any cops, great roads. (ardmore, thames, whitianga, tairua, miranda, over the hunuas to clevedon then brookby road to beachlands). Comedian was great and there was plenty of food afterwards.

Anyone from here participating in this event?
I am going with my brother, he has a XT GT falcon currently sporting a bare metal shell with hints of surface rust.
I hope there are some other old cars going?

My mum drives one of these, an auto one though. We call it the people scarer. Dad bought it with a hole in the block and put a NA block in there with a slightly thicker head gasket, goes really well but a bit scary on the corners sometimes as mentioned.

My grandad was in the RNZAF in WW2, when war first broke out he was too young to fly so was a motorcycle messenger driving between the camps around auckland and the waikato, on a bike with a gear lever like a car (not sure what kind sorry).
He eventually ended up stationed in Bouganville flying F4U Corsairs in support of the american ground forces, one day the formation was coming in to land after a mission and the guy flying behind him aciidentally fired his guns, two massive bullets lodged into the armor plate behind grandads seat!
That guy was made to shout a few rounds for everyone that night.
One sad tale he told was of a guy from his squadron bailing out over the jungle, by the time they found him the japs had trussed him to a tree and tortured him, cut out his eyes and tongue etc, and he had bled to death.

Dad did his apprenticeship at Jensen European in Auckland. He had serviced a customers Jensen Interceptor and was "road-testing" it. He got radared by the cops on the motorway at 110MPH, this was in the late 60's mind, and all his boss had to say to him was "Why did you stop? They never would have caught you!"
He has loads of motorsport stories as well, he was into rallying and hillclimbs in the late 70's and early 80's and then moved into circuit racing in the late 80's in a bike-powered suzuki fronte. 1300 kawasaki with a chain drive set up, all spaceframed etc.

Once you have fed the wire thru, I find the best way is to pull the outside wire in a direct line with the edge of the glass, and use about a 45 degree angle on the inside wire while keeping both hands as close as possible to the glass.
Lubricate with a squirt bottle with dishwashing liquid and water.
It is probably my least favorite part of dismantling a car.

Cool project. Any pics of the Arden head?
I think if you are going to 1330 why not go to 1380 or 1426? Similar coin, more potential.
I had a few minis back in the day, and my father used to race them in the late 70's/early 80's. Won his class in the sanyo rally of NZ in 83.

Right - it's the new year! Have you done anymore on this?

Could the ABS light be triggered by the wrong tyre profile giving odd wheel-speed sensor readings compared to RPM?

Another option would be a Suzuki cappuccino motor. 660cc turbo, already from a mid-mount car, and the same breed. Don't know how much potential they have though.

What is a hayabusa engine worth these days?
-
Something light, alloy, and from a FWD car.
Swift GTI motor??

My father used to race a fronte in the early 80's. Had a kawasaki 1300cc bike engine in the back, triple dellortos. It was road legal for a while, then he spaceframed the rear end and put big flares on it etc.
It was very fast but always had final drive issues, he was running a chain drive from the motorbike gearbox to the diff and the chain used to get hot and start binding up.
I will have to steal his photo album and scan some photos of it, I am going to visit them on labour weekend.

What kind of supercharger is that? M90 or similar?
