When I was at the wreckers we sold heaps of starter motors(cunt of a job to get at), power steering hoses(pump to rack, just buy new) and power steering pumps(probably because all the oil fell out of the leaking hose)

My brother is on his 2nd one and loves them

That's interesting - my 06 accord has had; faulty starter, faulty pump-to-rack hose, and now has a noisy PS pump for the aforementioned reason

What wrecker were you at? Strongs?

  2. So handy having everything ready to go in the trailer. I want to build one for kayak fishing so I can carry all the gear/chilly bins/BBQ etc and have it secure so the gear is still in the trailer when I return to shore. And have a washdown setup to get all the salt off before loading the kayaks on top. Might be a pipe dream though cause some of the spots I fish in northland have pretty ruthless locals! They'd probably just take the whole trailer, and whatever I was towing it with

  3. Just changing the plugs seems to have fixed the Fit - been driving it to work all week and it's been fine. A couple of the rear ones were in bad shape, spark electrodes nearly gone and a white coating on the ground electrode.

Was a bit of a niggly job, my short extension was just a bit too long so ended up needing a flexi on the plug socket. Some blood was donated from my knuckles.

I love our "single gear" Honda CVT daily. Just stick it in drive and go; its never in the wrong gear, and just stick your foot up it and it goes straight into the power band. Second gen Fit/Jazz so doesnt have the shudder issues the first gen had. Ours has over 200,000km now, with over 100,000km of that with us. regular oil changes are the key.

As mentioned, traditional autos, or CVTs that emulate autos (dumb idea) feel real clunky and gross, always having to wait for the trans to do something.

I fixed the shudder in my wife's 1st gen Fit by simply replacing the CVT fluid with genuine Honda fluid. It is up around 170k now, but it has just started miss-firing occasionally - I will start by replacing all 8 spark plugs, then if that doesn't fix it, I'll buy a front and rear coil pack and just move them from cylinder to cylinder until it comes right. Cheaper than replacing 8 coil packs.

Jambo is on this weekend, no doubt there will be heaps of coverage.

1st test and tune of the year for Meremere is 1st weekend of November.

I'll be back into it, and with ~60wkw more on board than my 10.2 second pass, I'll be hunting for the magical single digit pass :)

How much power now? And what transmission and rear end? Just curious.

    pics of your car?

I don’t have any unfortunately. This was in the mid to late 90’s before camera phones and before digital cameras became affordable. The glory days where the only decent aftermarket turbos were Garrets, a VR4 intercooler was considered large, and you could still buy an old rotary without needing Pablo Escobar levels of cash. I once traded a genuine rx3 sedan for a fucking trailbike...

The 7 a tidy gunmetal grey series 3, bought with a siezed engine. Swapped in a series 5 motor and box, garret t04, link plus driving a couple of extra injectors, vr4 cooler, 9” diff, water injection and lots of boost. Went well for the time.

Sold it it for less than $6k !

  7. A mate of mine bought a really nice 6 speed blue one in great nick for $5800 recently. They are probably not going to get much cheaper. I took it for a spin and was impressed with the handling, power was OK, reminded me of my old series 3 rx7 before I put the turbo motor in it.
