  2. When your next in your local servo or supermarket have a read of this article in NZ Hot Rod

    APRILWEBCOVER_lo-res.jpg

Its about a mustang that was randomly buried in a back yard in the states, years later dug up and sold to a new owner here in NZ, odd but cool!

    Interesting read

  3. I'd talk to 4LQQKS or TUF720 off the http://www.minitruckin.co.nz forums. Both of them bring a bit of gear in, know the right places to deal with, and don't charge shop prices.

Yeah I would but I joined the forum about a month ago to ask some questions and got banned and my account deleted after 2 days. I hadn't even made any posts and did nothing wrong. I emailed the forum admin and got ignored..

I'm part of the admin over at MTNZ.

I apologise for what took place in regards to your account, personallly it was not me that deleted your account but one of the boys obviously has mistaken your username as spam. Hate to admit it but your user name does sound dodgy.

Any way we are a friendly bunch, so I welcome you back. Please fire away with any questions you may have.

    Cheers

    James.

Now back to the related questions

  4. Got the old rust bucket tray off today, oh my dam what a bastard of a job that was

Unbolted 3 bolts and had to cut the rest of it off  But as a bonus called in to a local wrecker a scored a good set of tray bolts for nothing

This is what I'm working with now, rails should clean up well after sand blasting. But for now I'm just getting the new bed on and putting it back into storage

  5. Sweet stuff man. I love thats its LWB and LHD.

If you're gettin rid of the rear window I'll take it off your hands, mine is half plexiglass... :-P

    Thanks!

At this stage I will be removing it, but not getting rid of it unfortunately. But if I change my mind I will create a post in the for sale section.

I often see the solid type glass pop up on TM from time to time

  6. I always liked this shape Hilux, some thing to do with the old Barry Crump adds maybe?

What are your plans for it?

Neat little trucks with Style, yeah I agree

I really would like to have it back on the road soonish. I'm going towards a restoration rather than heavy mods.

    Plans as follows;

Cab off rebuilt, new steel in the floor.

One piece glass (all ready have parts) to replace the redneck rear window and quater windows

Bench seat swap with original style material

    Sandblasted frame then repaint.

    Gearbox rebuild (syncros are tired)

Bigger sized steelies, currently on falcon 15s.

Repaint to a soild suede blue colour

If I do go ahead with any mods, it will only go as far a chassis notch and drop spindles so I can carry and tow stuff with a smooth ride and not having to worry about the diff slapping the frame

    Then enjoy it again 8)

  8. Present date 2011

Still sitting in storage waiting to be pulled apart.

Any how dug out the old VIR report to have a look at its history and decide to do some facebook stalking  to see if I could find the original owner who imported it. Any how the lady who brought it into the country surprisingly replied to my email.

    I received this.....

    Hi James.

I bought the truck in Alaska in 1985 from a school teacher named Mike who was the sole owner. I drove it from Alaska to Tennessee in 1986 and then acorss the country to LA in 1988. I shipped it to NZ since cars were expensive then and new immigrants could bring in one car duty free at that time. It has driven the length of New Zealand many times. I sold it in 2004 because the clutch appeared to be going. Where did you get it and what sort of condition is it in now? I had that car for 19 years and it was a good one. I may have a few photos somehwere.

    Cool huh :D

    82 SR5 looooong bed

    190,000 miles approx

    22r Petrol

Original throughout, expect for wheels paint and lowering

Riding on the right side  Left Hand Drive

Brought it in 2007 with the intention to run it has a daily, which lasted until the end of 2009 due to failure of its WOF with rust, nothing to major but I thought I would take it off the road and have it repaired properly rather than doing it half assed.

First registered in Minnesota USA in 82, then it went Alaska. Its traveled a fair amount of miles throughout the states, originally owner drove it from the far north of the states to LA where it was imported into Christchurch in 88.

This is what it looked like when I first brought it, minus the 18s as it was cheaper without them

Scored a new tray off trademe recently, which was a surprise at first to find one for this model

    Shipped from Christchurch to Rotorua

Its rust free and only has a few minor dints from shipping. The original bed is pretty much gone due to rust and is not worth repairing
