    Bump.

Is this the easiest way to test? Just run a wire to either side of the coil?

I have four wires sticking out of mine.

Green = - side of coil

Black = - side of coil

Red = + side of coil

    White = Dash light

Or should I run green to the coil and black to a ground somewhere else and red from a switched power that isn't on the coil?

    Thanks in advance.

    Just guessing, but yep.

To test, bung the green to the - and red to the + side of the coil. black and white are probably just for the lamp, but you could put the white to the + and the black to a good earth if just the first two dont do anything.

Beware they are sensitive things, and i have blown up a gauge wiring them wrong (backwards polarity)  before.

Once you are certain of the wire functions (im assuming they are as you say from above):

green = incoming coil signal (so wire to the - side of coil to count the 'earths per second' x 60 / number of cylinders = rpm)

red = gauge power supply, so + side of coil, or to the ignition circuit, makes sense as then its only 'on' when the coil is

white = bulb signal, so to dash lights circuit.

black = gauge earth (should be constant, but depending on the gauge, this is probably just for the lamp, so the - side of coil isnt the best for this as its intermittent and will make your bulb brighter with rpm - cool! but not very good for the lifespan of a small incandescent bulb)

    Just quoting for TOTP context.

    And yes, you're welcome.

Also car wasn't quite perfect in that it didn't have the waterfall grill, but a good effort, and i think the matty b paint + chequered roof makes up for it.

    9.5/10, would spot again.

  3. My mums boyfriend at the time got a gold ghia wagon as a company car after suffering both a a mk4 and a mk5 cortina. They where so utterly different to anything else around in terms of body design, truly the future! (Lol still pinto powered tho, ha). For reference my mum was rocking a viva as a daily at the time!

I thought i may have spotted this around dunners over the weekend, but no pic.

Had a bunch of Lada stuff sent down and amongst was a Fiat starter motor, little use to me (except I might steal the solenoid) effectively mirror of the Niva unit, any interest to ya?

Well yeah, but nah, i picked up a nice low mileage/later model one in a random parts collection last week and have a few in storage in Auckland still.

    Cheers tho.
