  1. My previous lancer skid car was ruff as guts and running a sohc 8v 4g63 motor. It would crank 5th gear burnouts and won me a little bit of prize money over the years.

This time i would like some more power, style and build it to drift rather than burnouts.

So with more power in mind I bought a gsr 1800 sohc turbo 4g93t long block off a mate that already had forged pistons and rods

And along the lines of better style I've had this boot wing in my shed for some time now, also was gifted these flares from bigfoot. The flares are from a mini apparently so not quite right but I'll modify to suit the body better.

  2. Sooo I've always tried to have a dedicated skid car to stop me doing silly things in my good cars. It's been about two years since I sold my rb25de r32 drift hack and the pressure has gotten to me....

    20200511_221438.thumb.jpg.b9f1931b9858cc8a92160aa355cadaa2.jpg

I've been keeping my eye out for a while and purchased this off a mate for a good deal

It's a rolling body, deregistered. Has damaged right rear quarter panel and a few bits of rust to sort....

  3. Soooo this happened today, 4g63t sohc turbo 8 valve motor. it's been on the cards for a while but a mates old boy had bought this motor many moons ago. He had intention on using it in his old L200 but never did, so he offered it to me.

Was told he bought it as a runner but never run it himself so was "unknown condition " but been dry stored for many years.

    20200503_122647_copy_490x1008.jpg.b0ea8d486f1895ea195d9eaa1716618d.jpg

It was and absolute bargain I couldn't resist and then upon pickup he throws a link g3 ecu at me and tells me that was part of the deal! I am one very happy lad to say the least!!! 20200503_115904_copy_490x1008.jpg.51f52c5169fc9a39ae08cbe4f84b1978.jpg

Plan is to pull it down for inspection and we will continue from there.... haven't actually checked if it's a wideblock either but I have gearboxes to suit wide or narrow block so not fussed at all.

following a setup a mate karl has in his mirage I'll be looking at a multipoint injection manifold and running a different ecu as ild like that g3 for my lancer turbo conversion instead.

    Happy mans

  4. Mounted up the fuel regulator in engine bay and shifted fuel pump next to the fuel tank and bolted it to tray floor. Not the most ideal but it works and it's out of harm's way.20200425_124653_copy_1008x490.jpg.2e2120db522a7a1edda9b60ec104afb3.jpg20200425_171052_copy_490x1008.jpg.2a8c19e59ed645d527ede7476238db3d.jpg20200425_171045_copy_490x1008.jpg.ac0e2e57435e02c58f4c731b486af7a9.jpg

Swapped out the 3 inch tapered lowering blocks for 2 inch blocks, this was because it was sitting on bumpstops and now has some travel.

Threw the 17 inch bbs wheels on it to see if I like them. Plus they had 215/45 tyres on that get it to the right ground clearance to pass a wof. The rears are 17x9 with a 50 offset which let's them sit inside the tray nicely so no rubbing. The fronts are 17x8 39 offset, I put 5mm slip on spacers on but they rub on full lock so may get 20/25mm bolt on spacers for the front and they will fill the gaurd a little better.20200425_175849_copy_1008x490.jpg.956cb7e3e11c9a7cafdf20bcf8ab4519.jpg20200425_175750_copy_1008x490.jpg.7d4187728aefa775efe9f4e8a730b299.jpg

And lastly did some bog and sanding on some of the rust repairs I've done, definitely hate sanding but it needs to be done 20200425_145410_copy_1008x490.jpg.8f87fb7ecf84061dd8d5518acd9ffcda.jpg

  5. Ordered a Holley 1-4psi fuel regulator, forgot to order the fittings for it but luckily my workmate had a stash of fittings.20200424_093005_copy_490x1008.jpg.171b4f458be38e1c339523f409a639c4.jpg

Was short an adapter to a smaller barb so used a big fitting, cut the barb off, tapped it with the appropriate tap and great success! Didn't get around to fitting it to the ute just yet but hopefully over this weekend itll be tested20200424_093039_copy_490x1008.jpg.f448a47a07135c42017c8886df8ddca8.jpg20200424_104829_copy_490x1008.jpg.74d9cec4f36236558ea6e4700b57621e.jpg20200424_105507_copy_490x1008.jpg.5db4c0e41a0fcbb47ac1add0cf0231d6.jpg

hopefully this sorts the issue of the plugs being fouled real quick. Will also relocate fuel pump closer to the fuel tank too as I've been informed they're a push type fuel pump

  6. Got most things assembled in the engine bay today, extractors on, radiator in, inlet manifold and distributor in. Went to put a carb on and realized my spacer between carb and manifold was broken, tried looking for a spare in my parts but no luck so I'll probably raid the one of my 4wd parts L200 ute. IMG_20200413_120607_836_copy_445x445.jpg.daceb0ccd923809a856dec7bea97efa3.jpg20200413_175416_copy_490x1008.jpg.bcd0e3a62545e93cac314780dea1f8de.jpg

  7. Went to work and grabbed the 3/8 and 1/2 tourqe wrenches, had trouble finding cam cap specs online so resorted to the oldschool method of looking through my stack of mitsi books with great success!!!!

Feels good to see some progress on this old girl, also added inspirainspirational mitsi poster I have framed in my shed because how cool!

And when you dont have a bench grinder at home you improvise to clean bolts, I present the Milwaukee portable bench grinder 20200413_112424_copy_1008x490.jpg.897a6fbf5c86414d5959d07a4f86da68.jpg

  8. I've got a 4g63 carburetor and currently have a Carter 6psi fuel pump which I believe is too much for the little two liter shit box so I want to run a regulator, question is do I go 1-4 psi or 4- 12psi one I'm leaning more towards 1-4psi but with no return line will this wear out the pump?  Cant find any low psi regulators with return line.  Otherwise if anyone knows exactly what psi my carb should have I'll look at getting a different fuel pump. 4g63 sohc 8 valve carby motor.

    Cheers

  9. So now fast forward to our current situation in lockdown...

I ordered a top end gasket set as an "essential item"  so I could assemble the 4g63 sohc that's in it. Turned out the motor I put in it from my parts ute had a head done just before I bought it and they had never torqued the head bolts correctly causing the gasket to leak...

So today I stripped the head, did a quick valve grind, chucked new valve guides in and new cam seal, then couldn't find my tourqe wrench to assemble the head. I'm gathering it got stolen when my shed got broken into a while back. Good thing is theres one at work I'll use.

  10. Suspension wise it has some king springs that came from a Mazda 626 in the rear, cut to suit desired height with mirage adjustable damper shocks that keep them captive. Up front it has starion struts, shortened shock inserts, unknown king springs cut to suit, station lower arms, band new brake pads, rekitted brake calipers, new balljoints, new swaybar bushes etc.

Only thing I want to change is adjustable camber plates for struts and a strut brace

Ignore the 5 stud hubs in pics, it had 5 stud station hubs but I've gone back to 4 stud now

  11. Over the years this had blown a few diff heads and axles from excessive skids but I managed to acquire a factory turbo 10bolt, disk brake lsd from a parts car I bought for $150 !! Bloody good score as some people pay $1500 for these diffs.

A set of factory turbo tail lights and center garnish had popped up for $200 so I snatched them up also

The dream catcher and hippie shit hanging from the mirror has been there since day one and will stay there too

Have purchased a fiberglass wing/spoiler/duckbill whatever you wanna call it, have never fitted it just sat it there I'm still in two minds about it

  12. Well well well, the title should hopefully explain this well...

This is my baby, the car that holds far too many memories, the car I could never part with, yet it's the car I neglect and leave sitting in the corner of my shed and never work on....

    FB_IMG_1586410241190.jpg.7e0632c20962bcb7ba682eeef740faa7.jpg

This journey started around 8 years ago when I had a 12a Bridgeport motor and box in my shed and I was on the hunt for a rolling body to drop it in. I was fixed on a s1 rx7 body I found until a mate sent me a trademe link to a near immaculate, completely factory green gsl ex lancer, him doing this knowing I had always wanted an ex lancer. And so it begun

The 12a never ended up in it, it started as a 1600, then had a 4g63 sohc, then probably a few more  until I dropped a 4g63t dohc turbo vr4 block in it. Unfortunately money got tight and I sold the motor to keep the mortgage and mrs at the time happy, so it went back to a 4g63 sohc carby.

This did have a thread from the early days but its goneburgers now so we will play 8 years of catchup

  13. So at first when it failed a wof before Christmas I got my workmate to check why it had a knock in steering and he assured me it was the wrack itself not the wrack ends. Turns out I've been hunting for a wrack for no reason it was actually just a wrack end...... gggrrrrr!

So ordered one off repco as an "essential item" , slapped it on in there and we will get an alignment and wof once lockdown is overs.

Also wired up some sweet speakers in front doors and rear parcel tray I raided from the au falcon padock car, freebies!  20200409_165527.thumb.jpg.acbb278eb8b5ae14f39fa813754d23f9.jpg

  14. Both front and back, I can remove lowering blocks and go 1" smaller in rear to fix that but might make it hot rod spec.

I do have original springs for front but cant be bothered changing them to be completely honest. A rubber spring spacer could be the go also which I have a feeling I may have somewhere.....

Was just hoping I could change wheels to achieve wof height, used to do this on the old crown wagon each time it got stickered, just swapping wheels got it back over 100mmFB_IMG_1586605056635.jpg.ba6eabf7d5ce34b99b70d4ec9fa41d6e.jpgFB_IMG_1586604997614.jpg.d6ddec77533bcd4d1e4e8b6e6a0ee98f.jpg

  15.  tried the 17x8 17x9 riverside mr3s on to test fit ground clearance for wof, still not quite enough but they only have 205/40 & 215/40 tyres. I do have another set of 17" bbs with 215/45 tyres which may just raise the height enough for a wof. I do like the riversides on it but the diff definitely needs to be narrowed for the 9s with a +11 offset. 20200409_111258.thumb.jpg.5bd9eef9cede945d07865abce27b4888.jpg

  16. Checked and adjusted the valve clearances, all were fairly close just minor adjustments.20200326_133002.thumb.jpg.068347ca76f996d0f91319ccf3739036.jpg

also replaced the waterpump, flushed the cooling system and refilled with some tectalloy coolant. 20200326_173248.thumb.jpg.312eab2c4b821767a35793b6eec7a0fc.jpg

So was a productive first day of isolation. Would have been nice to brake clean the grime under the engine covers but were running on limited supplies currently
