Carjam only shows 1x other 1100 for '61 and nothing else for 60-64 (unless they screwed up the model).
Be an interesting story how it ever came into the country....

Not terribly interesting but making some progress..
A tube worth of sikaflex to seal up the roof join. Also replacing the rubber donuts for where the safari roof bolts on, hope to get this all in colour soon so I can mount it.
Windscreen back in with new seals
Going old school glazing with the butyl tape (which I actually like working with)
Bought a roll of sound deadening off TM (cheapest option I found) and working through layering all the internal panels. The roll is better than the flat pack as have less wastage.

How many of us will be there? I'll probably look to shoot up and back on the sat

Just re-read this...., inspiring build
Was your 15deg retarded timing come from opposite polarity on the crank sensor? Same issue here

Have just ordered some kilmat. Any advice on some additional undercarpet insulator? Pref not underfelt as it may get wet, options for a sticky backed foam?

Little bit more progress... they're back filling the foundation, you can see we've had to come up quite high on the blocks to satisfy the floor level with the council (flood hazard zone). It wont look as pronounced once we get the ground level back with some fill/top soil and there will be a small bit of decking around the front here.
Have also had my negotiation hat on for the provisional cost revisions which are coming back, keeping em honest.

Loving the colour choice!
Figured if I was going to replace the damaged panel on mine I might as well remove it and have a tap on the workbench.
End cap was stuck on with the most impressive black goop i've encountered, not even paint stripper wanted to touch it, lots of gentle prying with a paint scraper got it off in the end.
Panel came out pretty good for a first time with Ali, not perfect, but far better than I expected! Just held on now with a few pop rivets until I can source the correct AN470 rivets. Thanks for the inspirational panel work!
Thats awesome. I'd love to have the gear in the future to be able to make entire tub sides.
I've previously bought those rivels from central 4wd in Qtown but if you want a bunch there must be somewhere else cheaper.

Actually that was 20 years ago so they're probably both dead.
It was ~12 years ago I was there, bought seals for my HQ just one Barry at the time.

Buying cars as an investment seems like way more fun than buying shares. It’s why after the GFC classic car sales went up. People liked looking in the garage and seeing their investment as opposed to looking at a computer screen.
There have been lots of articles written about it too. Google is your friend.
The golden rule here is to buy something that will appeal to a wide market.
Rotaries are going up in value, but might not have the same appeal as a Holden, Valiant or Ford.
The market in NZ is much smaller, which I think makes it riskier.
A good clean FC might be a good buy. They are still under $50k. (Couple of okay ones for $35k but will require rebuilds as per standard rotary ownership)
Good clean Batty’s are $50k which is a big chunk of change.
My money Is on Rotary Bongo Vans. The 'Hagerty SideDraft' podcast is very good at discussing this topic
They always say, but something you love first, as an investment second.

Good progress Sam!
Like any project must be awesome seeing what was in your head slowly becoming real.
Cheers
Like any project there are stressful moments of "dear god what I have I done.." and a general drain on finances with the hope it'll all be worth it in the end...
It is likely this will be slightly over our initial project budget but will do the financial wash up all the way at the end.
Will do the next update when there is a bit more of a foundation to look at.

Best thing I can do is refer here and find an accountant for your specific situation, there are some further links here which go into way more accountant lingo than I have experience over. I believe main exemptions are if a) you purchased with no intention to originally subdivide and b) arent involved (or associated) with people in property development or construction,
Major quotes from there
"The tax rules around the sale of subdivided and developed sections are complex, and it’s always a good idea to seek advice from a tax advisor to make sure you’re getting it right."

What have you got in the way of engine bay venting? I want to seal mine up as sound tight as possible, but then worry about the motor eating stinky hot air, wondering what the best thing to do is?
Its fairly well vented. There is an open port on the cover near the air intake. Its open between the floor and bilge space and there are small vents on the rear bulkhead. The fuel tanks at the rear are vented separately
If you are worried about water ingress I'd seal up your top cover as best you can, add a vent (wherever is best) for the intake and run a bulkhead vent well above the waterline.
Helpful I hope?

Went to go out the other weekend and did not turn over. Suspected the starter had gone dud (I doubt the previous owners ignorance to a bunch of water in the bilge didn't help). The position in the V is a blessing and a curse, it keeps it out of the way but is then a bit of a pain to get too.... A bit more challenging than usual with the coolant pipes running along one side.
Got a new one quickly ordered (will look to rebuild the one I have there) and we are back in business.
While running it up on the trailer with a water feed I also took the time to do a bit more tuning on the accel map, very much feel I've got this in a better place without having a wideband to tune off. Without the idle air valve I barely even notice now, starts no problem any temp.
Was rushing a bit to get done for a planned weekend in Wanaka, had a good blat on the lake up to Stevensons Island and then a bit of time on the Clutha river.

A bit more progress (but not too much pics). I must have melted the main fuel line shut when I welded the firewall and after attempting to turn it around in my street it ran out of diesel 100m from my house after sucking what was there in the filter. Got a new line made up but the cartridge filter that is in it is unobtainium at the local BNT and the existing sediment bowl is leaking air through one of the passages so will run one of the generic setups.
An ongoing problem for this has been it popping out of the gearbox selector from the janky DIY shifter. The alignment pin on the shifter ball (a ground down bolt) had worn which was causing the shifter to move sideways and cause the problem. I ground down a new bolt and gave it some heat treatment so hopefully that solves the problem for another 20 years.
I still have my timeline of months before I loose this shed so trying to work on the big stuff while interior/tyres etc can be sorted if its moved to my warehouse.
I knew the front diff was going to need some work (as they all do at this age/wear), and the front shaft definately needs new UJs. Not my first rodeo in one of these so I know what I'm up against...
Brakes look ok (which I dont want to touch now, as have intentions for a disc break conversion in the future), shafts in ok nick, but these intermediate bearings need replaced (and are a little $$$), looks like there has been a bit of moisture in there and the oil that came out was sludgey brown....
Yep, need a few front diff (anyone got one?), there are some chips (old ones) out of the crown wheel and there is corrosion pitting.
Annoyed at myself as I had spares of these from my 88 from 8yrs ago and gave them away. Lesson learned, always horde, never sell....
