  1. Datsun 720 is the vehicle. Probably won't crack much over say 1200-1300kg? But I get what you are saying about not always just winching yourself.

I will keep an eye out at Supercheap.

    Cheers for the replies. :)

its not only what your car weighs or someone else when they are really bogged and suctioned into the mud/sand you will want the big winch

  2. so the brakes had never been fantastic and by that i mean shit so first port of call was to bleed the brakes as the car had been standing for 5 years got a bit of air out and rid of this skanky fluid it actually stops now

this morning i did a job id been putting off for a while the main part of the floor and boot floor had a bit of surface rust and it was down to the primer so i took off all the loose stuff and rust killed it then gave it a coat or 2 of truck bed liner came out really well considering

  3. Hey mate don't mean to burst your bubble but you will fail scruitineering with that battery box, I went through the same debarcle when I moved my batter to the boot of the starlet. Unless the batter is a fully sealed race battery (even by sealed red top ultima is not) then it has to be in a sealed container vented to outside the car (and secured with at least 4x M6 Iso 8.8 high tensile bolts) those black battery boxes are not sealed and vent within the cars cabin. I used a small clear sealed briscoes storage container with a piece of rubber fuel hose running from the box and out a hole in the floor. I tried arguing with the MSNZ technical officers over the fact an optima is sealed but they wouldn't wear it, has to be completely dry cell to avoid it.

yea i am aware of the rule it was just the battery that came with the car and i was sick of it rolling round "road testing" probably going to go with a 22Ah or similar battery that's sealed strange they wouldn't allow an optima they are 10mm bolts in the bottom of the box so its compliant other than the battery thats in it

  4. so ive been cracking on with a few jobs over the long weekend all the really big jobs are done pretty much just lots of little ones

i got a new battery box to replace the smashed one and re jigged the bracket that the old owner had cut in half and made it fit the new battery he put in

    image_zpsjxxjww8i.jpeg

not pretty but functional and strong and meets manz specs

    image_zpsjsxzizep.jpeg

looks much better with the lid on

i also installed the new seats the blue one was easy the seat holes were correctly spaced for me to just bolt the factory rails on by just drilling 2 new holes the red one is narrower and i had to cut the rear adapter plate and it bolted on and i used new high tensile bolts they look much better and semi match the steering wheel now

    image_zpschr2nttl.jpeg

I had some autometer gauges sitting round so i got a water temp one in a smaller size so they could all fit in the panel that had a old oil pressure gauge in it and yes i know they aren't straight they are like that so in their normal range they are pretty much all straight up

    image_zpsh5ozaneo.jpeg

just waiting on a 1/4 npt to 1/8 npt adapter for the water temp gauge and they will all be functioning this is all for now

if you know they are low why wouldn't you just change them before you go then not have to give a fuck what way you go

  6. heh skills aside youtube might suggest you "your video is shaky : would you like us to fix this?"

I've had mixed results from that sort of video editing

these arent terribly expensive : http://www.trademe.co.nz/electronics-photography/camera-accessories/other/auction-1024879951.htm

a bunch of us used those in our race cars and they were awesome pre gopro days now with cheap knock off go pros that are really good why would you bother using a normal camera

  7. ITS ALIVE !!!!!

was the txt i got yesterday and today it showed up on the tow truck again at my house

heres a small video for proof

    https://www.youtube.com/embed/AKZFtz2UEsY

so i took it for a burn round the block and it runs like a champ only issue now is its distinct lack of brakes so will have to investigate that one they are a bit spongy so will get some new fluid and bleed them up and see what happens and whip the drums off the rear to check for any leaks

oh and i got the terratrip to work there's a hidden switch in the glovebox so will tidy that up and put it in the dash

    image_zpswqnux7u6.jpeg

i also got a graytronics intercom pretty cheap and have the parts to make some leads up for it an it uses all the terraphone accessories

    image_zpsvutb2twq.jpeg

oh and i spotted on trademe 2x momo seats for 40$ each they will work with my current rails i just need too make up some 15mm spacer for the rear bolt holes im not sure what im going to do there yet

and giving them the sit test in the driveway the old autosports were comfy as but lack the hole in the base for the crotch straps

  8. Don't use Mossrax unless you can be certain it is Chris (the owner) doing the job, he does a good job but his guys work leave a lot to be desired.

Send it to PG Hydraulics in Auckland - they will turn it around for you pretty quick incl freighting both ways as fast as Mossrax will get it done and do a much more consistent in their work.

Pretty much this mike was really good but hes no longer there

  9. I've been looking at similar things.

And I've found for every opinion there is a counter opinion. Dang it.

It's hard to even get a grip on which way opposing opinions are swaying!

Read the guff on POR 15 and then priming that and spraying over bed liner etc.

And then I've decided that I'm pretty much going to leave it all the fuck alone for now because underbody prep sucks :P

Do you have kevlar wear plates in the areas of high abrasion?

your right so much info and no i dont ive only had the car a couple of months it has little underbody stuff on it was just going to redo the underside and redo the flaps slightly larger and put strips of it down the side on the sills to stop it kicking up the sides and chipping more of the paint
