  1. Got my linkage and fitted it had a few issues and took quite a bit of fiddling to get it right including grinding the throttle wheel tab to get the idle down and shortening the return spring ect but in the end it all worked out just wayy more of a faf round than i thaught . Went to pick a part today and grabbed a newer coil that had a bracket as the old one was cable tied to be held in place in clearly the wrong bracket owell.

I also fitted some side stone protection made from some industrial belt material i have had that was for my other car

  3. so finally got all the bits i needed to put this bad boy together with the dcoe 45

    image_zps2elxmftq.jpeg

while i had the inlet manifold off i put my oil filter sandwich plate on and replaced the plastic oil pressure gauge line with a copper one as the plastic one wasn't far from breaking

    image_zpsfnhzh6y1.jpeg

test fitted the new manifold only needed a small buzz with a flapper wheel for the base to clear the engine mount bracket

    image_zpsxkoyuszx.jpeg

whilst I had the manifold off i confirmed the head had infact been ported

    image_zps8bkypgnj.jpeg

picked up my dcoe 45 that I got from Blizzo that his workmate brought to wellington for me

    image_zpsnxfzb18v.jpeg

but repco dicked me on my gasket (long story ordered the right one and a nissan sump gasket showed up for me to collect ) so I had to wait till today to actually put it on. I also fitted a new rad top hose as my one had split and I got a few fittings to connect up the water lines as the sizes were different with the new manifold

as you can see its a tight sqeeze not alot of firewall clearance once the filter is on oh also

its alive runs ok need to get some linkage setup and a actual throttle wheel that i can adjust the idle on not something i cobbled together to get it running

  4. wow a month not too much progress really to speak of got a few jobs done

got a new soldering iorn and made up my intercom leads

    image_zpsbeot7akz.jpeg

I finally got the adapter I was waiting for a few weeks ago and found i had misread the thread size so a mate drilled and tapped the adapter for me so i pulled the rad out gave everything a flush with the hose cut the hose. put the adapter in and fitted a newer high flow rad fan just bled all the air out and the top hose let go so need to get another one it was a bit manky will do top hose and thermostat as it took forever to get up to temp.

    image_zpscimtmrjk.jpeg

I also purchased a oil cooler setup for cheap so i set about mounting the cooler it still gets air where it is as there are holes in front of it and has some stone protection

having had lots of issues with these shit carbs and them being not the best for a rally engine (vac secondary hitachits ) there was not much point rebuilding them or spending any money at all on them. so ive purchased a lynx crossover single side draft manifold (the last one they had ) so im after a 45 dcoe or dhla and if i cant find one a 40 will do . As much as id like to go twins i cant find a manifold for one ive only seen 2 manifolds on the net and cant get hold of ether of them but this will likely be a massive improvement anyway so ill put some pics up of that when it lands here from aussie this week some time.

  5.

The youths who produce your “cobbled togeather fucked up shit”, (there is no need for an “a” in together - and I’ve found it’s a good strategy to save the F Word for when you’re really pissed)  are usually blown away when someone takes interest in both them and their projects. The real bonus here is that you are actually mentoring them; they will slowly start to pick up life skills from you. If you ever get the chance just try it, you may find it’s a life hanging adventure

For starters Simon I never once mentioned youths did I? pretty sure certifiers see it from all angles . Also from the stories i've been told by people like yourself with cars that has v8 transplants and drums still allround ended up in trees when the brakes said no more actually having a standard to work to vs whatever you and your mates thought would be cool is a good thing. As for mentoring youth i don't stop at youth i go out to the whole community to preach water safety and teach people search and rescue on the water to provide a service to the community. I live with a pager 24/7 so the police can ring me to task my unit and that's not just on the water ether  we work in with lots of local groups and the council. Im well versed in putting back into the local community so you can save that speech.

Now were getting pretty OT here so im not going to say any more

  6. How much quicker are they with a silvertop? as is it feels pretty similar to my ae101 levin with silvertop. They are a lot cheaper/more common if the 16v blew up.

Still working through a few little issues:

-creaking noise from the rf under braking, gets worse the harder you brake. probably one of the pad shims out of place/touching the rotor or something

-when its cold it has a terrible flat spot from 1k to 2k rpm. It got a little better when I turned up the idle mixture potentiometer, prob just needs moar rich.

-It has a loose wire to the lf bumper indicator, the bulb is fine but only goes intermittantly

-It has a bit of a tick under accelleration, probably has a exhaust leak from the header flange, might just need nuts retightened.

-the big one is that the radiator fan does not seem to switch on automatically like it should, which means I cant take it through traffic at the moment.

So will be trying to get the worst of these ironed out this weekend, but have still clocked up about 100km since wof and no major issues.

The one i co drove in with a mildy worked silvertop ( porting and a megasquirt) all stripped out hauled ass we used to hit over 200kph fastest i saw on the trip meter was 220 on a long straight mates fxgt with a standard smallport went really well too
