  1. damn ! i knew it what other options do i have for coilovers then ??????
  2. hey guys...... havn't been here in a while........ i found this : http://www.teinside.com/product/TEIN-Co ... fault.aspx If you look up Toyota, you see Crown, and then you see 1972 apparently they have a listing for Tein Confort Sport Damper line for the Crown ???????? is this possible ?????
  3. sup i've been working on my 4runner today and i thought about measuring the caliper mounting holes they are 89-90mm apart... I think the crown calipers have the same mounting measurements ???? can anybody confirm plz ! it's the only measure i could take cause i dont have my tools with me to take the wheel off and measure rotor diameter etc if the crown calipers are 89-90mm then maybe I may be on something =)
  4. LOL yeah those are pics of the previous ownwer... when he just had bought it i think..... by the way this is the pic of underneath the car.... the day I went to pick it up at the canada/us border so consider it had just spent two weeks on a trailer and its very dirty
  5. always makes me laugh at how little is known about nz overseas, we must seem like the weirdest little country. P.S im super jelous of the snow where you are, as riding the metre thick base of solid ice we call skifeilds over here is seriously gay. Cool wagon too, was the chassis that mint always or have you repainted it all? thanks ! seriously i don'T know about the frame... i know the people who worked on the car told me they repainted the engine bay, but don't know if it included the frame... all I know is that it's always been VERY MINT, i have a pic of underneath the car I'll post tonight if I have time ! for nz, I know that people here have a vision of nz that it's a country with vast forests and river and alot of people see it as a nice plase to visit ! the fact that you guys speak english too (even if it's a weird and hard to undertand english lol!) is a plus as we can communicate for my part, I think nz (or at least australia) is a place where the laws concerning driving and cars - are very strict... and I think this vision is shared by alot of people from here... we all think that if you do a burnout or speeding, the police will kill you or something ! but even with that, you guys build some really crazy cars !
  6. i didn't go 1JZ cause parts are rare here, we never had 1JZ in original equipment... plus I wanted to stay in the M family ! do you guys have snow in nz ?
  7. now for the sad part : the swap... I got the car here, it was winter... and I had no garage to put it in... I had to wait until spring to get it to a shop to do the swap... ...since the car comes stock with 4M inline 6... and I wanted to keep it "original and in the M family" so I got a 7mgte with R154 transmission the problem is..... the shop I dealt with... they told me so much good things about them, they really sold themselves really well... they told me it was gonna be cheap and easy and take no time NOT !!! about halfway through the project, their main fabricator left, the new one fucked up the previous work, wiring was a mess, etc etc and THEN, they went almost bankrupt... so another shop bought them and my crown was transfered to another shop and they took over the project... but the new guy who was working on the car told me up front the work that was done before was complete shit ! so they pretty much had to start over and the wiring was such a mess that the car would never run properly... so I was like great so wiring went out, megasquirt in, more time, more money, more hairpulling/facepalm all in all, the car sat "in the works" for two years ! and in the winter, the car just sat there in the snow and I couldn't do anything about it really since I was short on cash because of all the problems that came up (the oil pan didn'T clear the steering linkage, exhaust downpipe either, transmission was too big, they had to cut the tunnel and re-do it, the extra wiring job, the aftermarket ECU, etc) so my motivation was low and I had no money.... in the end (last spring) the finished the swap ! FINALLY the car started, but they couldn't tune it because the car was not drivable yet (imagine the brakes sitting there for two years) it needs alignment and I need to put wheels and tires on it, new suspension (i want to lower it) and upgrade the brakes....... so now here it is, the car is in a garage I'm renting......... it starts, but doesn't run i have so much to do to it still before I can drive it ! it needs to pass a provincial mechanical inspection before I can plate it because it's an imported car... so alot to do still, not alot of money, but at least it's in a garage and not outside... here are some random pics the main reason I signed up on this forum was because I saw these cars are more popular here so I thought maybe I could get some help with my project ! I'm still short on cash because I have since moved out of my parents house, I'm living with my girlfriend and I have other things to pay and less time to put on my cars (other than the crown I currently have a 1984 4runner or hilux surf, and a 2010 hyundai genesis)... but the crown is definately a keeper and I will get through with the project, even if it takes 10 years !!!! this car is so rare and so nice, and I've put too much money in it to let it go lol !
  8. Well, here I am, on the opposite side of the Earth, showing you my long term project. I've had this car since 2007, bought it from a guy in California, USA, and got it shipped in eastern canada. I live in Montreal, canada and my first language is french (so sorry in advance if you can't understand my english !) I've owned some Toyotas in the past, a couple AE86s, an AW11, two 4Runners (hilux surf where you live I think), a Celica, three Cressidas, etc etc. So yeah, I love old school toyotas. One day while I was looking at some pics on some forums, I saw an oldschool toyota markII wagon with a 1JZ turbo and instantly fell in love. I wanted to have a slammed oldschool wagon with an inline6 turbo. Some time before that, I also owned a Datsun 510, and once almost bought a 1971 Celica, so I liked really old cars. I knew about the MS63 crowns and thought they were the most badass looking wagons toyota ever made ! but..... being in canada, these things are more rare than a snowstorm in Sahara ! since I love forums and I'm always on them, I was browsing one about old school corollas (te72) and there was this guy from california that was selling a 1971 ms63 wagon with a blown 4M engine. so, off to the bank I went to realise one of my most stupidest dreams ever LOL this is the car when the previous buyer bought it : since the car comes from the california desert, it had no rust whatsoever, but the interior was completely shot... the previous owner got the seats and carpet fixed, but it still needs a dash, door panels and headliner... but at least it's rust free I bought the car and had it shipped to a warehouse across the border (montreal is about 45minutes from the Canada/USA border). I had it shipped there and when to get it with a trailer because it made me save so much money to make it across the border myself and not pay any weird hidden administration fees lol so here it is when I went to pick it up at the border : to be continued...
  9. hmmm, I have a bit of a difficulty navigating in yahoo japan, because of the language barrier does anyone have the specs of the suspension and brakes ? like the shock length, spring length and diameter the distance between the caliper mounting holes, the brake rotor diameter, offset, thickness and bolt pattern (the number of bolts to hold it on the hub) even if the brakes are "beefy"... they are still not even vented discs so I'm afraid of them warping if I slam the brakes at 150km/h another thing, do you guys have access to maintenance parts like ball joints, tie rod ends, etc ? I went to the dealer a year ago and the only parts they "could maybe have" were like brake pads
  10. Hi everyone ! please allow me to introduce myself : my name is nick, I live in Montreal (eastern canada) and I own a 1971 toyota crown wagon... now, the main reason why I signed up on this forum is because I was searching for info on my car (and couldn't find anything) and I stumbled here and found that old school jdm cars were more popular in Australia/New Zealand... I saw a couple of projects here about these cars and I hope I can find some help with my project here in america, these cars are more rare. In canada, even worse ! I personally bought my crown wagon from California and had it shipped here ! I never saw or heard about one here... when I went to register it, the Crown model wasn'T even in the toyota list ! same thing in every auto parts store, nobody knows what I am talking about when I mention i have a toyota "crown" lol so... I have no idea how to work on this car and what kind of parts fit on it ! i'm pretty alone here and that's why I signed up here, to get some help with my project and some knowledge... like I said, mine is a 1971 ms63 wagon, I bought it with a blown 4m engine 3 years ago from a guy in california... the car sat here for 2 years before it got fitted with a 7MGTE from a mk3 supra (alot of custom work : engine/tranny mounts, custom transmission tunnel, intercooler piping, exhaust, driveshaft, oil pan, etc etc etc)... the swap is "done", as in meaning the motor is in the car and it starts, but it's not dyno tuned yet (it has an aftermarket fuel management system) it's not tuned yet because the car needs alot of things adressed before it can be put back on the road... and that's why I'm here ! and I've spent SO MUCH MONEY ON IT, im kinda broke now ! ok... since the car will now have close to 300 horsepower at the wheels, I am concerned about brakes and suspension ! I've never driven the car yet since i bought it because it came with the engine already blown up... I saw a project here that had air suspension, I saw some that were lowered... do you guys have any idea what kind of compatibility this car has with other cars in terms of parts interchangabilty ???? (forget about other crowns or more recent crowns cause they don't exist here lol) are there any companies that make coilovers or something for it ? lowering kits ? I want to drop the car and have a somewhat firm ride (to be able to handle the power and not throw me in a wall or something) and about brakes, again, is there any compatibility for brakes other than more recent crowns ??? I've thought about hilux calipers (called 4runner here) since it seems to be the same brake system (the disc is behind the hub)... or do I really need to get something custom made like wilwood ? my project has been on hold for a very long time because I don't know where to start and I can't find any info on these cars !!! I want to come up with some sort of plan for my suspension and brakes before I make the first move... oh yeah.. i am also gonna need an adjustable panhard rod I suppose ? anyways, hit me up ! thanks in advance !!! Nick p.s. sorry about my english I hope you can understand me (french is my first language !)
