  1. Right so a relitivley boring pictureess update

After a few weekends fidling round with the L20 i ended up getting the problem down to a few things

    1-Dizzy was considerable worn (shaft)

2-Was missing a tiny air control screw

    3-Throttle body was dirty

Put in the missing screw, took of the intake and cleaned that, new points and it started idling reasonably well but because of the shaft was worn it was retarding and advancing so wasn't as good as could be

I finally located another Dizzy (of Aaron) the weekend i was going to go pick it up the head gasket decided it would be a good idea to go :x ....so that how it is at them moment.

if anybody knows the part number for a L20A head gasket set or knows where i can get one that would be great i found this PDF http://www.hlgasket.com.tw/download/NISSAN.pdf just want to confirm its right.

  2. Purchased earlier this year. so im going to Steal Chris's project thread, Can Mods change the name of in the project thread please?

also going to Copy a few things from my NZ Datsun build thread so bear with me

So spent the whole long weekend going through my list of things to check for the reason its idling rough.

    - compression test-all good

    - All vacuum lines are tight and sealed

Was a bit baffled/annoyed till i started playing around with this thing

    dscf0861dh.jpg

Im assuming its the IAC valve (Idle Air Control Valve) can some one please confirm this

*EDIT confirmed as Air Regulator by DJZ

any way i cleaned and played with that for a bit and lowen behold it idled!! :highfive:

that was till i turned it off and tried starting it again!

so anybody that can confirm that this is the IAC valve that would be good

*EDIT confirmed as Air Regulator by DJZ

  4. Hey guys,

Being that I know next to nothing about these motors (Only ever worked on K-Series) was wondering if you could give me some advice

The engines idle spikes then drops down to near 0 then spikes back up again and so on (Hard to keep it running)

when take of at low RPM it splutters but once you put foot down runs mint

Things I'done to try remedy the problem so far

Previous own put new plugs in it

I've just redone vacuum lines (It is possible that I missed some hidden ones)

    Run Injector cleaner through it.

    so far to no avail

any ideas guys any info would be much appreciated.

    cheers

    Nathan

  5. Hey Guys,

Having some trouble with my daily work hack and was wondering if anybody had some ideas on what it might be.

Car is a 1982 323 hightop wagon, running the standard 1.3L (I dont know much about these engines as i have always had K series prior to this car)

The engine randomly runs smooth then just as randomly as it does that it runs like its onrunning 3 cylinders.

The engine blows a bit of smoke here and there down at low revs but still think its something less serious than lack of compression

I replaced the spark plugs and fuel filter seemed to help for a day or two, now its just gone back to running bad then good.

if any one could help that would be great

    cheers

    Nathan

  12. Well the weekend was quite a productive one considering it was a long weekend and a few beverages were consumed.

As the sun came up on Saturday my neighbours were awoken to me Starting to sand back the black paint that was so painted on so thick. Spent all Saturday with an electric sander in hand attacking the drivers door and that’s all I got done 3 packets of sandpaper later! I have never come across paint that was as thick and clogged up sand paper like this stuff.

So after much frustration, I brought some paint stripper and spend most of Sunday getting high in my garage off the fumes, but man did it chew through the paint.

    dscf3273z.jpg

    dscf3274p.jpg

    dscf3278y.jpg

So now all that’s left to do this week is sand that last little bits and start to apply some Bog.
