Then cleaned the garage as there was tools and shit everywhere.. IMG_0573 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_0570 by postlematt, on Flickr then today i borrowed some 25mm spacers off a mate and shoved the meshies on the front and dropped it off the axel stands, coils overs were wound down most of the way ill probly raise it another 30mm or so. IMG_0575 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_0576 by postlematt, on Flickr Its just running the standard ta22 top hats on the adjusties at the moment, going to cnc up a new plate for the apexi camber top as its running a fair bit of positive camber as you can see from photo below.. 7. My adjustables showed up in weekend, theyre apexi out of a dc5 integra, 3 way adjustable, sleeve, platform, dampner. rears are 295mm from pillow ball mount to top face of the top hat. fronts are totally sleeved and ill be doing a similar thing to what Brennan did in his ke70 with the max adjusties. I'll be machining up threaded sleeves and weld them onto some mx7* struts that i already have
  8. So ive been trying to figure out if i can get all my car certed before revin, thanks to the help of other members i found out i can. Went and got a declaration of ownership and got it signed by a Justice of the Peace and talked to the gy at VTNZ he said just get it all upto standard then book it for a revin, he knows my cert guy so he'll just give him a bell to make sure its all legit. So ive bought some Apexi adjusties with spring and platform and dampner adjustment just waiting for them to turn up which should be this week if all goes to plan. ive worked out i need to shorten my dif housing 40mm each side to run the n14 rear disks and calipers, will be making up some caliper mounting brackets when the cnc's at the old mans work are free. the impul meshies will be going 9.5" bead to bead did some mocking up to work out the kind of dish ill be running, clearances etc. just flepped the centres and spaced them out. want to keep the factory guards and will be rolling the inner guard and if i ever decide to run flares etc i can just run spacers. Anyway, photos.. 9. Finally made it to page two.. Long time no update..
  10. Those Sills look like the goods mate, did you have any issues getting a hold of the guy?
  11. Cheers Hillman1, I was thinking about keeping the 3t as an upgrade later down the track but if i do updrade i can see myself going down the beams 3ge/NA route as ive got the ra23 with 1jzgte turbo goodness so dont really need to turbo celicas. I'd consider selling the engine and everything together as a package as i could do with some more funds for the ta22
  12. Problem solved^^^^^ looks like Nissan U13/14 rear discs and callipers will work a treat, may just need a spacer and will have to mill up a mounting bracket.
  13. Must be time for an update, even though theres not much been done as works been flat out. I gave up on trying to find a functioning pair of ae86/te71 rear callipers. Some people might have heard of Charlie B (Bensamin) world famous in NZ for building worked k motors etc. he lives just down the road from my shed so i quite often pop in to see him and have a yarn about anything old school toyota, hes a good old bastard with a wealth of knowledge and all the time in the world to talk toyota! I had a talk to him about converting my ra23 t series diff from drum to disc to shove in the ta22 and he said the only problem with that besides finding the parts is the fact you want a floating rear calliper so that the brake pads dont wear unevenly.. So i did a bit of research and went around a few wreckers and came and settled on some nissan U13/14 rear callipers a discs, already 4x114 stud pattern. found a guy wrecking a u14 locally and picked up some rebuilt callipers and near new discs, handbrake, cable and brake lines for $80 the same price as a the wreckers wanted for 1 calliper.. Uploaded with ImageShack.com Uploaded with ImageShack.com Uploaded with ImageShack.com They seem to mount up near bang on, i may need to use a 5mm spacer behind the disc, so ill wait for the old man to get back from the UK next week and get onto cncing up some mounting brackets. Uploaded with ImageShack.com Uploaded with ImageShack.com I also had a bit of a measure up to work out how wide to make my impul meshies. it looks like i have room to shorten the diff 40mm a side and run 9.5" rears so will be 10.5" lip to lip which will make them sit about 5mm from flush if i roll the inner lip of the guard this will allow for me to tuck the rear tyres slightly if i feel the need.. just did a mock up using some car so get and idea of the kind of dish these puppies with have on the rear.. Uploaded with ImageShack.com Uploaded with ImageShack.com Uploaded with ImageShack.com About 115mm of dish.. not too shabby. I messed around with one of the centres a 195/45r15 tyre just do get and idea of ride height.. Uploaded with ImageShack.com Uploaded with ImageShack.com
  14. Im have issues finding a pair of ae86/te71 rear callipers in working order, can anyone help??? Im shortening up my t-series diff so i can tuck 15x9.5 rims so i figured i would convert it to disc brakes while im at it Alternatively ive found some ma61 rear callipers and discs but the guy doesnt have time to get the bolt spacing on the callipers where they mount to the dust shield.. Does anyone know what the bolt spacing is on ma61 rear callipers? im guessing it would be the same as sa60 ta etc correct me if im wrong? Any help would be hugely appreciated. -Matt
  15. Got another couple of hours in on the celica today, waiting on mechanical parts to arrive, suspension bushes, slave cylinder, clutch master cylinder, brake lines, radiator etc. so untill these parts arrive i decided to do a bit more on the body work. before photos, i got a chalk pen and marked where the minor dents and imperfections are on the front guards so i can refer to them if i need to when i comes to the panel beating. Uploaded with ImageShack.com Uploaded with ImageShack.com gave them a sand, a lot of the black top coat over the top of the original silver has humidity blisters so im going to take alot of if back and give it some good coats of filler primer/sanding before the new paint goes on. Uploaded with ImageShack.com Also started on the rear quarters and pillars. Uploaded with ImageShack.com Uploaded with ImageShack.com The spare tyre well in the boot had a fair few rust holes, i have a stainless drop tank that ill be putting in once the car has gone through re-vin so the spare tyre well will be coming out, because of this i have decided against doing major rust repairs on well and have just used some kneed-it metal putty to fill the holes ill sand it back and paint over it so it looks legit for revin.. Im not keen on dodgy rust repairs but i cant justify the time it'll take cutting and welding new steel in when ill be cutting the whole thing out after the re-vin.. Before.. Uploaded with ImageShack.com after the kneed-it.. Uploaded with ImageShack.com
  16. Sweet cheers for that, im after pretty small stuff like that aswell ill probably do it in 2-3 orders over a couple of months to keep the price down. Its a mission to find new TA22 items here in NZ.
  17. Hey mate, the builds looking good, looks mean on the adjusties and sigma rims! did you have to pay any duty tax on your parts you got from thailand? Im looking a getting some stuff off ebay from thailand for the TA22. cheers
  18. So the front suspension, brake and calipers are all pretty shot, id say the calipers will be seized disks will need a skim and new brake pads etc. I got a quote to rebuild them at roughly $120 a caliper. so i was browsing trademe and found a set of ae85 front struts, disks, and calipers. The calipers have had a fresh rebuild with new brake pads and they cost less than what it would have cost to rebuild my calipers. so i had a bidding war and won them. They turned up lastnight.. So tonight i installed the new front suspension, all i had to do was swap out the ae85 top hats for the ta22 ones and hey presto new front brakes on the TA for re-vin! I forgot to grab the spring compressors from work so i just put in some ae70 lowering springs i had lying around untill i grab the spring compressors.. After that i finished stripping the roof/rain gutters and put on a rust killer/primer. Passenger side Drivers side Rust killed/primered Also did the front windscreen sills..
  19. No Worries man. If you do happen to get in contact with him just tell him Matt with the ta22 in Nelson recommended him, he did the sills at the end of last year, he didnt have a template so he might have saved the one i sent him. If not like i said in the last reply i have some offcuts from my new sills. Cheers
  20. Cheers Raizer, Ill definitely look into it and ill have a talk to my certifier at the next nzdra meet.
  21. Hey mate, always good to talk to a fellow celica owner. I got my new sills from a guy called Dave at Auto & General Sheetmetal based in Invercargill, he makes all kinds of custom sheet metal panels i just sent him a template of the sill, they were $150-160 each 1800mm from memory so you just cut them to the suit. Top bloke and easy to deal with, from memory i think it was about a week turn around shipped to my door. This is his profile on trademe: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Members/Profile.aspx?member=133964 I have a couple of small offcuts from the new sills which you can use as a template if need be, they werent an absolute perfect fit but pretty damn close! I definitely recommened him to anyone who wants custom steel and fibre glass panels at a resonable price and good turn around time. Hope this helps! Cheers Matt
  22. Got a couple of hours work done on the celica today, first job was to remove the front window its completely cracked. I managed to get it out in one piece, there was a lot of sticky silicon shit an a couple of small patches of rust in the bottom corners and alont the bottom edge where the clips that hole the window chrome were but but noting major just surface rust. [/img]Uploaded with ImageShack.com [/img]Uploaded with ImageShack.com [/img]Uploaded with ImageShack.com[/img]Uploaded with ImageShack.com [/img]Uploaded with ImageShack.com So i got in there with turp and a wire brush and cleaned it up it took a good couple of hours to get the screen out and clean it all up. [/img]Uploaded with ImageShack.com [/img]Uploaded with ImageShack.com [/img]Uploaded with ImageShack.com [/img]Uploaded with ImageShack.com Uploaded with ImageShack.com When i got the car it didnt come with a gearbox cross member, the factory cross member on these celicas is mount to the chassis rails so its a lot wider than other factory toyota cross members. So.. CNC'd up some steel plates to mount up to the w55 factory cross member. [/img]Uploaded with ImageShack.com [/img]Uploaded with ImageShack.com [/img]Uploaded with ImageShack.com [/img]Uploaded with ImageShack.com Uploaded with ImageShack.com I also mocked up the throttle linkage as the factory throttle set up on the celica wasnt suited to side drafts (originally 2t-b twin carbs). I'll make up a proper bracket etc. but i just mocked it up to cut the cable to the correct length, its actually a throttle cable off a mk4 cortina. [/img]Uploaded with ImageShack.com
  23. Cheers, I thought it was 100mm ground clearance to the chassis rails? do you know what the minimum is? It'll be going as low and the adjusties will allow haha
  24. Cheers, the ta22 will be going a real straight bullet silver like what you see on the new rav 4s or mazda atenzas, i wanted to go matador red mica like on the new lexus but that paint cost rediculous money. the impul meshies will be getting widened to 9.5" on the rear and will stay original size on the front for the time being untill i can find some facelift front guards that have more of a pumped lip on them. this ta22 is a pre facelift so the front guards arent able to be rolled/pumped to fit wider wheels (they still have 30-35mm of dish as they are, but the rears will have about 115-120mm of dish once widened) and will be getting painted or plasti dipped satin black or anthracite which is a real dark metallic gray. adjusties all round so want to run the minimum 100mm ground clearance. The RA23 will be going a satin gunmetal/bronze and will also be running meshies but bigger and wider, will be going down the same route as sheepers ra28 with cut and shut r32 skyline irs along with s13 hubs disks calipers up front and s13 adjusties all round and most likely mini tubbed in the rear
