  1. Hey mate, top job on the rust work! just curious as to how you went about rolling the inner guard lip? ive got to do the same to my ta22 but dont want to flare the outer skin of the guard. Cheers Matt
  2. Went and saw my cert guy this arvo, explained the build to date along with my plans supplied photos and drawings of rear towers, and also took all the gear for my rear towers, coil overs etc with me to show him. Hes more than happy, so pretty stoked to hear that and the project is full steam ahead!
  3. So tyres fitted today, forgot to take any photos of them before i chucked them on the car, was too chuck them on the ta.. ill get some of the stretch etc next time theyre off. Anyway, photos.. hope you enjoy seeing it finally sitting on the rims half as much as i do haha. Discussion here: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/38745-matt-spitfires-ta22-daily-driver-buildresto/page-3 Cheers Matt
  4. Thanks for the kind words nobangmycar, A lot of thanks has to go out to my dad, his engineering skills and access to the work shop have made this build run a lot smoother. he got me working in his workshop since i was 11 years old, 3-4 days a week after school and every school holidays. when i finished school i worked there for 6 months before uni then when i finished uni i was back there for another year and a half, i learned a lot and kind of wish i had done my appenticeship but then i would have never got to uni. the car had been built on a serious budget, i earn under $20 an hr, one of the joys of living in nelson.. the sunshine tax.. hence the huge build time. I have recently resorted to selling my daily driver and bought a shitbox daily to free up some funds for this build so hopefully the ball will start rolling again with the build. ideally im aiming to have it on the road by novemeber but only time will tell. things never go as planned.. we all know this is the case with project cars.. Cheers Matt
  5. Celica sunday... put the fender mirrors on.. IMG_1262 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_1259 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_1256 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_1263 by postlematt, on Flickr Tyres should be going on the rims tomorrow, ill buy some 15mm hub adaptors this week and rear strut tower fabrication will commence next weekend, can wait to have it sitting back on the ground with the coil overs all round!
  6. Got into my old mans work before football this arvo and drilled the valve stem holes. GetInline by postlematt, on Flickr GetInline-1 by postlematt, on Flickr Went for the stealth look and put them in the back lip of the rim, 45 degree bend with an extension. 7. So just thought id follow up on my wheels, cant recommend the guys who did them highly enough! remade the wheels free of charge and assembled them then sent them back no questions asked. At the end of the day i realise making custom parts doesnt always run smoothly sometimes you need a few cracks at it. once again i would highly recommend these guys and will happily get other wheels made by them in the future.
  8. My Birthday present from myself to myself showed up today.. IMG_1237 by postlematt, on Flickr Got a bunch of stuff off ebay, did a bulk buy and the seller was good enough to combine shipping rather than charging me crazy shipping costs. he sent them as a "gift" and although the combined cost including shipping was probably slightly ove the threshold he put the value on the box at $97 and also put a birthday card in the box incase customs got nosy.. but like i said its a birthday present from myself to myself.. IMG_1238 by postlematt, on Flickr The card cracked me up, the guy seems like a genuine GC haha IMG_1239 by postlematt, on Flickr its mainly small mechanical parts, bushes and a few other bits and pieces IMG_1246 by postlematt, on Flickr ill do another big buy an a month or two and get all my rubber seals, weather strips, badges and other stuff that will go on after panel and paint.. he sells a lot of old toyota reproduction parts so if anyone wants to check out his ebay store and make purchase when i do to save on shipping then give me a PM and can sus something out. Cheers
  9. Also found a 4.1 hilux diff, 4 spider that ill try find an lsd for but happy to run open at the moment.. IMG_1228 by postlematt, on Flickr scored these fendor mirrors for $60 too IMG_1230 by postlematt, on Flickr and last but not least, new leads $1.50 tardme special, cost more to ship them then it did to buy them hah! 10. Got my wheels back today, Im real stoked with them! Big shout out to fellow OS member XSVWGN for hooking me up some volk centres at a sweet price. Just spent 3hrs out in the garage fitting them up.. it was only -2 degrees out in the garage had to wait half an hour for my hands to thor out so i could type.. anyway pictures! IMG_1223 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_1221 by postlematt, on Flickr Already had some 195/45r15 good years for the front (left) and managed to track down some 205/45r15 toyos for the rear (right) IMG_1226 by postlematt, on Flickr Fitted up, ill be running some 15mm spacers up front if anyone has a pair they want to part with? 11. Time to dig this thread up from the dead, nothings been happening.. still sorting the wheels etc. Found a bit of motivation today.. cut out the spare tyre well to make way for the drop tank and make it easier to fabricate the new rear towers. Got it cut out.. IMG_1169 by postlematt, on Flickr but wouldnt it wouldnt drop. IMG_1175 by postlematt, on Flickr because of these suckers, this was welded to the front, the panhard rod mount bracing IMG_1172 by postlematt, on Flickr and this little bastard mount at the back behind the rear numberplate valance.. IMG_1180 by postlematt, on Flickr Couldnt get a grinder in there IMG_1181 by postlematt, on Flickr Finally got it out IMG_1183 by postlematt, on Flickr Oh harro hilux diff.. i also found a 4.1 ratio diff head.. finally.. IMG_1196 by postlematt, on Flickr Started working out the clearnces for the rear shocks. between the calipers, diff mounting brackets and chassis rails theres farrrk all room.. 12. Hey man, how much did it cost you to get your new lips spun up? are they steel? ive run into a few issues with my new alloy lips/barrels i got made up for my ta22 and i think im just going to have to fork out to have them remade. Cheers Matt
  13. Ive just bought another w55 with 160km on it, i want to swap out the rear position shifter housing to a mid position shifter housing of one of my spare w55s, can anyone recumbent a good sealant i can use or should i just make up a gasket out of some gasket paper? Cheers Matt
  14. I'll see how the new centres look when they arrive and if I'm still in the same predicament with those thats when I'll get my engineer to call the company, they'll be able to explain the problem and the work involved to remedy the problem along with cost at which point ill see if there will be anything in the way of compensation. I could do this but it would throw out all my widths and offsets by about 15-20mm as these wheels were made specifically to fit the ta22 with the shortened hilux diff and mx7* front brakes and callipers, disks etc, also the width as it is now means i can get cert with decent tyres and not have to switch them out afterwards. the centres would still need to be redrilled or slotted in order to clear the rear barrel and front lip radius's as even though the centre is sandwiched between the two lips the current bolt hole pcd's left as they are would still foul on the inner barrel and outer lips. also the original inner barrels from the existing 2 piece wheels that have been machined down would also need re-drilling as they're still running the original bolt pcd's. i thought i could get away with not having to do anything to the fronts but the cap screws foul on the new outer lips (I'm running 8mm caps as the original 12pt bolts were 8mm). I think ill just wait until these other centres show up to see if i can make them work or not thats when ill seek some compensation to cover some of the cost to invovled to make the wheels work. Cheers Matt
  15. So went into blacks fasteners and bought some m8 caps and nuts, drilled 4 holes in one of the outer lips thats going on the front (using original inner barrel which has had front lip machined off, not a new barrel). looked like the nuts might just fit hard up on the inner barrel with one side linished, but the cap screw head fouls on the outer radius of the front lip. Im looking to buy some other centres off a fellow OS member with the hope the the outer bolt pcd is a few mm lower. If this isnt the case then maybe ill have get the original bolt hole welded up on the centres and drill new ones to suit a 6mm cap this also means id have to weld up the holes and drill new ones in the originl front inner barrels. The only other option is sloting the original holes but this is far from ideal, i dont really want brand new custom wheels that have been done dodgy. This is starting to turn into a bit of a headache..
  16. So its the way the tooling is set up for 15" lips/barrels, and most people dont use the 12pt bolts they switch to a cap screw. My centres must be slightly over sized from the generic 15" centres, going to call into black fasteners tomorrow and see what they have in the way of cap screws and nuts. it may be a case of having to drilling new holes with a different pcd between the existing holes. Ill keep you updated on how this works out. fingers crossed the cap screws will do the trick but im not getting my hopes up, 0.95mm isnt a hell of a lot to work with. Cheers Matt
  17. Correct, about 5-6mm would have done it, ill wait to hear back (hopefully tomorrow) and go from there. pretty keen to get it sorted asap so i can work out my ride height and fabricate new rear suspension towers its been up on axel stands for too long haha
  18. Hey mate, yeah I've emailed him just to point out the issue, I'm not trying to stir any shit or bad mouth the guy as apart from the obvious issue I'm really happy with how they came out. Just thought id see if it was just me being fussy and I've missed something or how people would go about it or have any easy fixes I think what might have happened is there's a generic size they use for the barrels and theyve been spun up then realised the centres aren't a generic size and machined them down. I'm sure there will be a way around it
  19. Really keen to get some peoples input and opinions on my wheel situation.. Should I Try and redrill the centre between the existing holes, machine down the nuts on one edge? Cheers Matt
  20. So ive run into at issue with the new wheel barrels and please note before you read any further Im not trying to bad mouth anyone because other than this im really happy with the product, just one of those things that happen i guess.. Anyway i went to go and get the centre bolt holes drilled into the new lips/barrels only to realise that the outer edge of the centres have been machined down in order to fit inside the new barrels, this wouldnt be such a big deal but now the bolt holes have been left with under 1mm of sidewall. IMG_1084 by postlematt, on Flickr this now means that the nut and bolt hangs out past the edge of the centre. IMG_1090 by postlematt, on Flickr Which means i cant bolt in the centre, note that there should be about 130mm of dish with the centre located and bolted in.. IMG_1085 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_1091 by postlematt, on Flickr There is always the option of redrilling the centres but having paid in the region of $1500 for these i think its probably a case of getting them remade? (without sounding like a fussy cunt). Whats are peoples opinion/possible ideas on this? (please note existing barrels, centres and nuts & bolts were sent to the workshop). //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/38745-matt-spitfires-ta22-daily-driver-buildresto/page-3 Once again not trying to bad mouth anyone! But If you know of an easy fix then I'm all ears. Cheers Matt
  21. Yeah i was thinking maybe a 225/45/r15, Spiderwebfx here on the forums was looking into getting some imported from the states, i don't might running a little bit of stretch on the 8.5's but definitely not after the amount a 195/45 gives, i know a 195/45 can be certed on an 8 so thats what ill run on the 7.75's up front as i already have a pair of those, and the front guards on the celica don't have any kind or arch or flare on them so a bit of stretch will be beneficial. Cheers Matt
  22. Trying to decide on what tyres to run on the rears 15x8.5 any suggestions? dont want to run a 195 45 r15 as thats what going on the front. thinking a 195 50 r15 or a 205 50 r15.. Does anyone have any pics of 15x8.5 rims with tyres? any input would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!
  23. So I couldnt help myself.. Found some handy sellotape and mocked up the wheels, sorry about the crap iphone pics and bad light, you tend to get that at 11pm. 24. Today was like my birthday and christmas combined.. After months of measuring and working out offsets, my wheels arrived IMG_1051 by postlematt, on Flickr I got the lip machined of the original rim and new outers made up for the front, and totally new inner and outer barrels for the rear. IMG_1055 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_1057 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_1059 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_1056 by postlematt, on Flickr Front are about 15x7.75 and rears are 15x8.5 Cant get onto the cnc mill to drill holes for the centres untill next week atleast so no photos of them on the car untill i can get that done.. I chose not to get them polished as they will be getting painted. Cheers Matt
  25. Cheers mate, much appreciated! Now i can get stuck in. I've got some 5mm thick rhs that ill use for the main town and then some 3mm plate that ill use to brace off the floor/inner wheel well/existing tower. Cheer Matt
