  1. dunno if this helps but with the engine running hold a metal rod(or screwdriver) up to the injector housing and listen for a constant ticking noise. do this to each injector(think theres 2 from memory). this should help you clarify if the injector/s are playing up eg if theres no ticking or an irregular sounding tick

  2. ok so my mate wants me to install some ramtubes on his levin. i thought it was as straight forward as removing the plenum and induction assembly then bolt em straight on but completely forgot about the airflow meter sensor. Im sure many of you have done this mod before and would be able to help me out by telling me how to overcome this problem. Will he need a custom ecu or need to get it retuned or whatever? cheers

  3. Name: Tai

    Location: North Shore

Cars you own: 1982 mitsi mirage, 1978 vauxhall chevette

Mods to them: Not alot>mirage is can bombed with rims. chevette is stock

How you found out about oldschool: Randomly came across it while searching for old school car forums.

Anything else you want to add: Currently a student at unitec halfway through automechanics cert. Lots happening to the mirage shortly. keep an eye out for updates :D

  4. cheers for the correction yowzer. didnt realise the amp was for component speakers until after i posted that comment. second week into autotronics at unitech atm so am just starting to learn about all of that electrical bs hehe

  5. its ur decision mate. i got the 1400w 2 channel version of that panasonic one which runs my 1000w 12" rockford fosgate sub brilliantly, so i would assume that 4 channel would run those components pretty choice. not an expert tho

  6. Please do not buy one of those v12 amps. got a few mates who have tried em out in the past, they work well apart from the fact that they keep on cutting out when u turn up the bass. tbh they dont work well at all. just stay well away from em

  7. im unaware of what the engine is but i know its a 2L carby and is not an sr. engine has very high kms but am considering dropping an sr into it. just really wana make sure that the bodies top notch otherwise i probably wont buy it but as the far as the pictures go, i can only assume that its as tidy as it looks. ill make sure that i check those areas for rust and listen/examine the engine thoroughly. cheers guys :)

  8. hey guys,

look at a 89 u11 bluebird wagon this weekend, might buy as a run around car.

anything in particular that i need to look out for? eg any specific areas that these cars are known to be prone to rust??

    thanks

  9. so apparently repco doesnt keep the wheel spacers in stock and cant order til monday, supercheap dont even sell em and me having the flu making me really cbf looking anywhere else, i purchased a pair of 3mm spacers for the rear for $45.95 including shipping. hopefully they will do the job, otherwise ill return them and get a pair of 7mm.

  10. Im sorry i dont live up to your standards uterus but to be honest, i dont really care. Im only 17 and still have much to learn. Would of been mint to keep classic and in premo condition but seeing as it technically is my first car im bound to play around with it. I have little experience when it comes to can bombing and i didnt have a compressor/spray gun kit at the time. with the help of my mate we were really quite amazed at how well it came out , ashame i didnt prep it well enough (which caused it to flake in areas after about 7 months) and miss use of engine degreaser which has stripped areas of paint.

I really wanted to go for some more oldschool dished rims, maybe of mesh design but these wheels came up with what i believe was a pretty good price considering how much trademe browsing i had done and seeing as i had the money at the time. They look a lot better compared to what i had on before though, Alot better :) . After i get the damn thing lowered i think it will look hellovalot better so all goods.

Really want to pick up a minter with the supershifter one day, had a jam on my mates and was amazed out how fun it was to drive compared to my standard 4 speed transmission.

Yo Tim i remember you telling me bout your brothers rage with the black reflexes, completely forgot about it until just now actually. tis pretty buzzy. anychance you got any pics of it hiddin somewhre? keen to have a gander !

    churr

  11. ok so i sorted the tacho a few weeks back and now its working perfectly but with the after market needle.

forgot to take some pics, ill try get some up soon.

I started pulling the engine to bits and took some pictures of the internals which look pretty sweet. got some valve adjusting to do but only minor adjustments nee to be made. (will get some pictures of the block n pistons up when i can but these will do for the mean time :))

Then picked up this badboy last Wednesday at lunch for only 40bux, pretty mint condition with only a few bent fins...

    dsc00366t.jpg

had all the extra mounting components on which i ripped off then i gave it a quick sand down and clean. will probably get it painted black sometime soon.

And I then picked up these 15" ROH Reflexes that afternoon for only $350 including tyres, all of which have decent tread except one which is pretty worn.

Notice how It sits awfully high? i'll be investing in a set of lowering springs when i get the money together.

the only negative is that one of the wheels scrapes on the struts so im picking up a set of spacers 2mro morning to get it sorted :)

oh also picking up an engine stand, compressor and paint gun set next week then im going to start practicing my painting. hopefully my dads mate (professional panelbeater & welder) can offer me some lessons :D

any1 got a colour in mind?

originally i was thinking of gloss black with either a dark red or orange pearl but now ive been thinking about a high gloss babyl blue or tangelo orange? any suggestions would be much appreciated :)

    choice as!

  12. yea will most likely be keeping it for a few more years and get it all sussed out and looking brand new.

wow, was unaware of how many cars actually had a 4g37, thought it was only the cordias and tredias. my bad! well ill just stick to the g32bt for the moment but may eventually upgrade to the g37. Is there anywhere that sells 4g32bt exhaust manifolds or would i need one to get custom made for it?

    thanks

  13. haha I was so excited to see a tidy mark 1 mirage until I saw it was painted matt black! I have to ask, what was wrong with the original paintwork? it looked pretty tidy enough! Having said that, I painted one of my cars matt black but the paintwork under it consisted of painted on stripes with house paint and I just wanted to make it all one colour again.

good choice with the engine conversion though, that engine is factory fitted to the turbo version of that in the states, called the Colt. The jap spec turbo version had a 1.4 with suck through carb turbo setup.

if it were me I would try track down a 4G37 engine, it is physically the same engine other than a bigger bore and bigger valves and higher compression ratio (9.1:1) - it would be perfect to attach your turbo manifolds to and would be an instant boost in power. The stock turbo on that 4G32T is a TC04, you could easily bolt on a TC05 or TC06 in its place, though a TD04 from a GSR would be the best choice and would fit with only little modification.

well sorry bout letting you down, if i brought the exact same car recently i definately would of kept the original paint job bu as a first car i was soo eager just to muck around with it and what not.

as for the engine i had been looking for a veeery long time trying to find a 4g37 but they are so rare nowadays and if i brought 1 through dodsons it would of made a massive dent in my bank account where as the 4g32bt popped up for only $100 which was a steal for the condition. Im stripping it down within the next few weeks and gonna be cleaning it up, replacing all the gaskets, seals, cambelt and tensioner and flick a new coat on all the parts. was thinking a black theme with the rocker cover and turbo powder coated in either fluorescent orange or pink.

cheers for the extra info, all is appreciated. was planning on putting either a tc06 or td04 .

    thanks

  14. haha cheers for all the negative feedback.

Btw the taco is pretty terrible, will be taking it off when i can be fucked, the one on the gauge cluster doesn't work and i spent ages trying to sort it tand i eventually gave up (was actually a gauge from the 1400glx model, why? because i misplaced my original, which didnt have a taco when i started to work on the interior).

as for the paint job was just a cheap can job which cost me a massive $80 and when i get the funds together i will most likely be getting it painted black with a crimson pearl or possibly a bright tangelo orange or wateva.

thought it would of been nice to chuck it on here as it is the only one. also to see what ideas all of you had in mind and helpful tips with the car rather than the majority of which who were being wankers about it.

    thanks guys.

  15. Engine is a g32b turbo out of a mkII mitsubishi mirage (1984-88 i think) and the dodge & plymouth colt 'pocket rockets' that were released in 1984.

    -engines only done about 140,000km

-turbo has no play (will probs be upgrading to a td04 or something)

-seems pretty choice, compressions sweet and what not

-gonna replace all the seals and gaskets before i chuck it in

-gonna get a 13b turbo intercooler for it (the front mount, not the top mount)
