Should have it sorted by the end of this week, ready for the nostalgic/oldschool meet on sat.

Im going to buy a new fuel filter tomorrow to replace the current one and see if that makes a difference.
The car was 'juttering' a little before putting some gas in but it wasnt til after a minute of driving from the servo that it started to play up badly.
When I park the car up the car idles smoothly for a while then slowly begins to )
When I park the car up the car idles smoothly for a while then slowly begins to accelerate(Edit:) decelerate. The guys on the gm-t forum suggested it could easily be a distributor problem aswell (loose connection), so i'll also check that this weekend hopefully.

Hi there,
My chevette started playing up today when i took it for a drive down to the gasy. The cars pretty much been off the road for the last 4 months.
I took it for a drive from browns bay to whangaparoa a week or so ago twice and it was running mint, then all of a sudden today when i went to chuck some gas in, afterwards the engine started to slowly decelerate and jerk/jump as if it was running outta gas. trying to figure out whats gone wrong...
Its the little 1256cc and all ive done to it is switch to a 28/36dcd carb (rebuilt to suit said engine), new plugs, leads dizzy cap and rotor + oil change and what not.
You guys got any ideas bout what might be wrong? I checked for vacuum leaks but it was sweet and the timings spot on as I changed the belt about a 2 months ago and timed it perfect.
All helps appreciated!

Sweet as! down the road

Car colours in Albany/Rosedale are pretty onto it and not too dare
-
^^ Even the Albany Carparks off Oteha Valley road (Just North of North Harbour Stadium) could be suitable
It is made up of 3 huge gravel carparks but is a public carpark. Usually Its empty unless there is an event at the stadium.
Perhaps this is another option?
-
Massey uni Car park would be an awesome choice for it. If its infront of the Ferguson bar there's 3 tiers with about 200 car parks, otherwise theres a huge gravel park about 20 meters up from it.

Did abit more work on the engine yesterday, didn't really spend that much time on it. Only repainted the block & head, stuck the core plugs in, bead blasted the oil pump and housings + rebuilt the oil pump as it was shanked. Had a bit of staining from some shit inside it but got all the clearances in-spec so should be all good. Was a bitch when i painted the block as there was a fucking split down the nozzle. Taped it up then sprayed it with shit drippin out everywhere.
pics yo
Going to be cleaning up all the bolts, bead blasting & re-plating them with that zinc gold stz and finishing off the assembly this weekend hopefully

Today's effort... will let the pictures do the talking..
Pistons, Crank & Caps ready for assembly
Crank in
Pistons in
Topside of pistons, shineeey
Reconditioned head (pretty scratched up from gasket removal but it measured up swell and didn't need to bother skimming it)
Head torqued up
Rocker cover on, finally starting to look like an engine again
Heres some older pictures that iv'e been meaning to put up plus a few goodies that i picked up on saturday.
cordia 1.8L turbo gearbox & halfshafts
Manuals & brochures collection
Brass core/frost plugs
323 Fender mirrors (Cheers Oskar)
I will be finishing the assembly next weekend, I've gotta pick up 1 more Core plug (40mm) for the head then it's good to go. I will be repainting the head and block black and will be blasting all the other housings and what not to get em looking brand new + re zincing all the bolts.

DCD? How did you go about mounting that on the standard manifold?
Yea custom manifold mate, the 28/36 was rejetted n what not to suit the engine perfectly though.
-
my chevette use to run like absolute shit aswell, miss firing all the time. The carb caused this (think the diaphragm was fucked), have since upgraded to a 28/36 and it runs preeeemo. so it would definately pay to give the carb abit of attention
-
Yea been a bit caught up at unitec with my final assignment and getting my portfolio together and i havent spent much time on this.
After trying to exchange the piston rings for some that would actually fit, according to the ACL archives these were the correct rings and they wouldn't give me a refund or exchange em and they told me to go see an engine specialist and get the piston re grooved to make em fit
. Anyways as of today i bead blasted the pistons and theyre gonna be brought in to get the piston pins removed and regrooved so the rings will fit, after the bead blasting only piston 2 was a bit ragged with a bit of scoring but that should polish out and they will all be like new, then finally i can assemble the engine! slowly getting there
sorry bout no pics.
Oh yah ive also been collecting manuals and brochures. Ive got 2 owners hand books, haynes manual, mirage/tredia/precis manual, 2 different australian manuals, the NZ manufactured 1.4l mirageII turbo brochure and the second gen mirage turbo marketing flyer thingy.
Edit: Also the 1.8L cordia gearbox and half shafts arrived 2 weeks ago from the mighty southland. Ive been told its only done 110,000kms and looks to be in very good nick. measured it all up and it should go in easy as.
peace

that is so legit bro

Fucking brilliant mate. Looking forward to see how u progress !

Ive got the same problem with my chevette. When i chucked in the 28/36 weber after taking it for a drive the throttle would stick at a rather high rpm. I thought that maybe setting up another cable with a return spring pulling in the opposite direction of the accelerator would solve this or a bigger return spring? havent got around to it though
-
So got down to a bit more work on the engine today. Was hoping to reassemble it today but after cleaning the block down, honing the cylinders and measuring the piston ring gaps i came to a halt as i found out that the piston rings are bloody wrong
damn you ACL! haha gonna go return them tomorrow and hope they give me the right ones this time. grr
And some pics..
Cylinders before
After
Third cylinder has had some previous damage from water leakage
And i picked up some HKS gauges for cheapies of tardme
Boost, water temp, oil temp.
Peace
