I'm keen on a car in tga but need someone mechanically minded to check it out for me and just make sure it's all good before I go ahead and purchase.

if you happen to pop up auckland ways my mate at unique tinting does em for $130 (i think) not too sure what other people charge though...

Where abouts are you located? Tony Lynch up at Dairyflat could sort you one for a good price 021971612.
Just give him a call. He's a real GC and does alot of work for Murray from Weber Specialties.

i think the green one lives across the rd from YMCA Akoranga... dont think it ever moves
I always see this cruising around Albany and Browns Bay.

Alright, thanks. Not toofussed about the accuracy of the speedo (its already running about 5km above the actual speed haha).
Guess i'll just look out for a sweet deal. Really just want some good tread secondhand tyres that will do the job. Chur

Ok so i've got a set of rims which i need to sort tyres for. Im absolutely shocking when it comes to tyre sizes and I need to sort a set for some 16x7 alloys. They will be going onto a gf impreza.
What tyre size should i get to suit?
Cheers

Well today I bead blasted all the belt pulleys and zinc passivated them. Ive got no pics but theyre looking very sharp. It's quite funny how they all reacted. The camshaft pulley came out creamy with a slightly gold tinge, the oil pump pulley came out quite coppery looking and the rest are more goldish.
Decided im ditching the original continuous injection setup and swapping over to multipoint injection. I've got gsr injectors lined up with a fuel rail to suit and a 60mm throttle body (not sure what its off) and will be running this with an older link ECU instead of a megasquirt. Will be modifying the standard intake manifold to suit. Also going to run the intercooler piping off to the side and around the rocker cover instead of straight across.
I also picked up one of these at the 4&Rotarys last weekend for cheap..
It's a 38mm tial wastegate hehe .

Alaric from Driven Performance (owner) had one (not sure if he still has it) as a race car and did a fair bit of work to it. If you want some parts or information he would be the person to talk to.
Haha yea i'm pretty sure he still has it. He was my highschool form teacher a few years ago, pretty much was the mantis. when i talked to him towards the end of last year he said hes doing a new charade project.. g12 4wd Charade with a 4g63t or 4g93t (cant remember). would be a hellova rocket !
Edit: spoke to Al at the 4 and rotas and he has sold his charade.

Thought its about time ive made a project thread for the 'Shuvit'.
I brought this 1978 Vauxhall Chevette off Craig 'Bulldog' towards the end of May last year.
First of all I had to buy a new battery before i brought the car as the current one was shanked and needed a roll start to fire her up so i rolled up to Craig's with a fresh 430cca battery. The car was in fairly decent condition minus a bit of rust here and there, a torn rear seat and a few leaks. The HUGE 1256 had only done 110,000kms which was a plus and was just short of a wof, All it needed was a warrentable set of tyres, some rust by the drivers feet sorted and the steering wheel nut needed to be tightened as the steering wheel was a bit loose.
How the car looked the day i drove it home (paint looks fucking mint but irl it was really faded and had crows feet all over the boot & Roof)
They day after picking it up, I gave it ye old oil & filter change and siliconed the shit outta the windscreen to eliminate one of the leaks. Silicone = fail. Pretty trippy how the sump plug required an inch sized socket
Then a week later I shot up to Tony at Lynchbuilt and got a set of Ruststyles with good treaded tyres that i swapped over, returning the original wheels back to Craig as it was part of the deal when i brought the car. A few days later the Rustyles were wirebrushed back and repainted, being brought back to their former Rostyle glory.
Before
After
Went to my dads panelbeater mate who sorted the rust in the footwell (didnt take any pics), then went and got a wof.
A few days later the car started to run like shit then found out the fan belt was absolutely fucked and was well past its due date so i replaced it and borrowed my mates timing light and set it spot on.
Was a mint daily for the next 2 months until I was at the mrs' and the bloody cunt who was fixing the blinds at hers reversed straight into my car and drove off. Tracked the bastard down and after ages of fucking about his insurance company coughed up a mint sum of money to pay for the damage.
The damage wasn't too bad as it was only the F/R guard but nonetheless was still a pain in the proverbial.
A couple months later I picked up some mint guards and other bits and pieces that ended up sitting in my carport until deciembre.
Also got a Gemini diff that is still awaiting to be thrown in.
Once again the shuvit crapped out on me, this time it was a carb problem (the diaphragm was buggered). Sorted it by replacing the standard Stromberg with a 28/36 which was rebuilt by Murray at weber specialties. Also got a inlet manifold off Crazytim which needed to be modified to suit which was done by Tony.
Also Replaced the sparkplugs, leads, cap & rotor and tidied up some rust on the footwell which was caused by the windscreen leaks..
Before
After
The chevette was running ok for the mean time but the throttle kept on sticking. A while later just before xmas Tony and Mark helped to sort me a new throttle cable and Return spring to cancel out the sticking.
Got central locking and an alarm installed, then begun to replace the guards and prep my car for paint to get it sorted to cruise down to Gizzy for new years.
Unfortunately the I ended up spending too much money on xmas prezzies so couldnt afford paint and the cars just sitting in prime/guide coat as we speak. Also bitched out on driving it down to RnV as I didnt reckon it would make it (which was a smart choice as soon later the fuelpump and/or dizzy failed on me) which is almost sorted.
Have also chucked a Ramflo airfilter on, added 6x9s and headdeck plus a Mexican blanket on the rear seat which i scored from kumeu. Will try get more resent pics tomorrow or fri.

Didnt get round to doing anything about this problem on the weekend but I did score a mint hexican blanket from kumeu
Should have it sorted by the end of this week, ready for the nostalgic/oldschool meet on sat.

Im going to buy a new fuel filter tomorrow to replace the current one and see if that makes a difference.
The car was 'juttering' a little before putting some gas in but it wasnt til after a minute of driving from the servo that it started to play up badly.
When I park the car up the car idles smoothly for a while then slowly begins to )
When I park the car up the car idles smoothly for a while then slowly begins to accelerate(Edit:) decelerate. The guys on the gm-t forum suggested it could easily be a distributor problem aswell (loose connection), so i'll also check that this weekend hopefully.

Pizzas at Fergs are pretty choice. So are bishes on thursday nights

Ok sweet, will check it out.

Hi there,
My chevette started playing up today when i took it for a drive down to the gasy. The cars pretty much been off the road for the last 4 months.
I took it for a drive from browns bay to whangaparoa a week or so ago twice and it was running mint, then all of a sudden today when i went to chuck some gas in, afterwards the engine started to slowly decelerate and jerk/jump as if it was running outta gas. trying to figure out whats gone wrong...
Its the little 1256cc and all ive done to it is switch to a 28/36dcd carb (rebuilt to suit said engine), new plugs, leads dizzy cap and rotor + oil change and what not.
You guys got any ideas bout what might be wrong? I checked for vacuum leaks but it was sweet and the timings spot on as I changed the belt about a 2 months ago and timed it perfect.
All helps appreciated!
