  2. Do you remember who you brought it off from hawera?
  3. Yea i got it form wellington. The guy said he had a baby on the way so needed to get rid of toys. Im in Hawera, was awesome mission in work ute to go get it. Yea he said LSD but i could tell HAHA. Im possibly going to leave the trim on and use these doors. Mine is a early one and the doors are different. Early ones dont have stalks to lock them and the lock is in the door handle
  4. fred flintstones styles! Floors all cleaned up and painted Homemade sandblaster is slowly cleaning the front floors Engine cleaned up with new bearings, Some apparently worked cam with "colt cams" stamped on it. New/old shocks cleaned and painted rear suspension. As its a 68 it has 2 brackets not the one bar like the 70's onward ones Need to assemble front suspension with Disks Bucket-o-bits Still waiting on my mate to start welding, might be quicker to do night school welding and teach myself haha
  5. Well Time for a update seems there are alot of escorts being updated at the mo. Here is the donor car i brought. got it for $500 off TM. I got it for the tyre wells in the boot as they are suitable to be cut out and put into mine. It came with a mint as front grill, mint headlights, wood trim above the doors and a few other good bits i can sell. Also came with rear bubble arches which i have back on TM at the mo
  6. NOT SURE, SOMEONE ESLE ASKED THAT ON ANOTHER THREAD, aSK hIM?
  7. well i have just brought another mk1 shell which is going to donate alot of panels to mine. And have brought a sandblaster. will put up pics tomorrow
  8. Does anyone on here have any advice and tips on doing this? I have a 68 mk1 with drums and compression struts which i want to change over to mk2 disks and sway bar. Im hoping to use the complete mk2 front end but it does not appear that the sway bar mounts are a direct bolt as the bottom of the chassis rail (on the mk1) tilts up and is not square like the mk2 (can putup pics if that doesnt make sense). Do i need to have new brackets made up? Any advice would be great
  9. I hope so, iv allready printed the page and faxed it to the cert guy
  10. Im looking at doing it as i have full mk2 drivetrain im trying to put into a mk1. As the mk2 leafs are wider and stiffer i thought it could be a good idea to swap the leafs over as well. Is grinding the side off the eye really a good idea? and a legit one at that?
  11. Has anyone on here put mk2 leafs into a mk1 escort? I have just pulled the ass out of the mk2 and trialled it in the mk1 and the front of the leaf springs will not fit in the front bracket. Any bright ideas how to rectify without to much hassles?
  12. Are the mk1 and mk2 diffs the same? Are they a direct swap? And is it possible to use the mk2 shock bar in a mk1? I have the older mk1 with the 45deg shocks
  13. im in hawera, im keen to do it. Hawera is a hour south of NP. I have a ute if you need it picked up Pm me if you need

    Alcohol

What should i use to wipe down a vehicle after sanding before painting? Some form of alcohol or spirit?
  15. so a pintho is a easier option?
  16. Has anyone seen http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =216175057 Is this a common converison?
  17. There are 6 or so spots of rust that need cutting/welding. But i was considering blasting for al the hard to sand places, ie floor pan, inside boot and underneath as i am dubious of the underseal. I have no problem with sanding body/doors etc but its all the fiddling shit a sander wont get into
  18. na tregath was the name that came up when i started ( and since finshed) playign world of warcraft
  19. Good idea, might try that. The guy doesnt have anywhere he can do it, might see if he can do on back lawn?
  20. Yea if the guy is keen to do at my place il have it on stands ready for him. its just a rolling shell at the moment no windows and hopfully soon no guards as soon as i can get a extension bit for my stubby lil spotweld drillbit. The front panel is pretty rooted at the bottom but im tempted to see if it can be patched as most of it will be hidden by the front spoiler
  21. yea pictures have been sorted. Yea im in the process of gettign them off. might take a while, only took me 2 months to get the doors off. im working on drivers guard atm, but it has been off in the past and when was refitted instead of spotwelding on it has been welded from inside the tyrewell in a long weld along the seam.
  22. Well i have been asking stupid questions on here for a while and thought i better show where all the info is going Its a nz assembled 1968 ford escort coupe - 1300 super. I got it for a decent price with the intentions of rebuilding into a decent weekend toy. I brought myself a mk2 ghia 4 door from the courts as a impounded damaged vehicle im planning on stripping and selling parts from. I am planning on using the mk2 diskbrakes and diff as well as the 1600. The mk1 had a non running 1300 in it and drums all round, and as a old one it has compression bars(??) , which i may replace with the sway bar from the mk2, any recomendations for this? the mk1 is the 4th escort iv owned but is the first time i have rebuilt a vehicle so i have a million and one silly questions!! I have done mechanicals before but this is the first time iv had to deal with rust on this scale so im really flying blind. when i got it home, looks bad The donor / financier floor, should i sand or paint over? spare tyre side, petrol tank side has been cut out completly both guards have some rust, i need to get them off, what a mission getting to repair underneath front panel - brought a front spoiler to hide experimenting with sanding and primer - no idea if im doing it right lol at this stage im not making major plans for it, but im going to put the 1600 in it, try to get a cheap 5 speed off trademe ( along with every1 else on here), fit the mk2 brakes, fit the front spoiler and fit bubble arches, no idea on colour yet but somethign realy bright with mexico rep stickers. But at this rate body work will take 2 years maybe? still alot of things i dont know how to deal with but im learning. I have a family freind who can do the welding for a small fee but i need to get everything ready first. Im am in South taranaki if anyone needs bits of the mk2. Cheers for any feedback
  23. well this is the POS. discuss/mock/advise/inform etc
