  1. Cheers mate! Definitely need to attend more events. Got pinged on being too low and having no window washers - two issues that have never been brought up in a warrant in the past 5 years so I'm a little annoyed. Ah well..
  2. Good to meet a few of you guys. Although wasn't the best outcome for me.
  3. Sweeet. Will sort it out this weekend. Cheers guys.
  4. Cheers dude. It's a cheap option anyway!
  5. Oh sweet as. Will have a look into that. Alternator is pretty new (18month ish). But I have a feeling early issues I had with brackets/loose belt might have buggered the brushes? So with the rooted brushes it would still cause the dash light to indicate it charging?
  6. Hi all, Having issues with my alternator not charging my battery in the Escort. Was having trouble with it charging on and off.. would work sometimes, and others not. Voltmeter would rise and fall during a short trip. I thought it was because of my issues with the belt, was a little loose. Put on a new belt over the weekend, everything is nice and tight etc. but still no charge. The 'charge' light on the Escorts dash isn't on which would normally indicate it's charging, but the battery only reads 12.5V and the Voltmeter is in the red. Any suggestions of what to look at before I rip the sucker out? Cheers
  7. Can't help there sorry. Running a completely stock Kent haha
  8. Did I see this on a trailer heading northbound on the motorway around Manukau on Sunday? If so looks bloody choice!!
  9. Yeap was exactly that! All working now. Thanks for the help guys!
  10. Yeah I thought that was the case. Nope not aftermarket, is a 6 dial dash. Haven't had a chance to look at it yet, but I'll have a fiddle around behind there tomorrow.
  11. Haha not a silly question at all! But no, nothing as been taken, was locked up at my grandmas. Got the car working today, gave the points a quick clean up it started after a few attempts. Just got to sort out the instruments now. Only the speedo and oil pressure gauge are working.
  12. haha thanks guys. Will try everything today when I shoot around to look at it.
  13. Behind the alternator light? I haven't checked to be honest, hasn't been fiddled with since being put away but I'll double check tomorrow!
  14. Earths seem good. Fuses are all intact, mind you half of them are very old. Might change them all out just to rule it out as a cause.
  15. Hi guys, Having a few issues getting the Escort started. Just taken it out of storage where it's been for 3 months. Fresh gas, fully charged battery. First thing I've noticed is that none of my gauges are working, neither is the red 'charging' light - normally this will be on when the ignition is. Lights, indicators and their corresponding instruments are fine. When trying to start the engine, it cranks fine but isn't getting any spark. Each lead wont spark if it's close to the engine block while cranking, neither will the coil to distributor lead (not sure if it's supposed to). Is this a problem with my coil? or is it somewhat related to the above dash problems? Any help would be much appreciated... you guys have never failed me! Thanks
  16. Switched the wires around and it works! Thanks alot Hunted!
  17. Hmm yeah that's true. Will I cause any damage if I try switch them anyway? Because my brown wire was definately in the top connector on the regulator and that seems to be an earth.
  18. Alternator reads 12.2v. Now looking at the images above - you told me to join the brown & blue and earth the black. But from looking at the regulator it seems that the brown was the earth wire - it was at the top and the top connector on the back of the regulator seems to be an earth. Does this sound correct?
  19. ok done! Thing is it ain't charging . Light stays on and there is no change in voltage across the battery. How do I determine whether it is my wiring or the alternator that's not working?
  20. Makes perfect sense! Thanks so much bro! Owe you big time
  21. Aight, here's a pic of the wires. Thanks dude.
  22. The man! I'll have a look tomorrow and get back to ya. Thanks for your help, much appreciated.
  23. ahaha epic fail. Shows how much I know about wiring - just assumed the wires were coming from there. I'm assuming it's this sucker - I have 2 large connectors and 1 small connector going into it I believe.
  24. Thanks bro, sounds easy enough. Have just attached an image of the regulator, could you please clarify which wires get joined etc.
  25. Hey all, So recently my dynamo on my Xflow shat itself. I purchased a Lucus alternator from a Mk2 Escort and am a little confused on how the wiring works - seems different to guides I've read online. Heres the dynamo and existing wiring: and the alternator: Now the dynamo has one large and one small spade fitting. The dynamo has two large and one small - does it matter which spade the large goes on? Also, it's going through a little black box which I believe is the voltage regulator, do I still need to use or will the alternator have an inbuilt regulator? Sorry, many questions. Thanks guys!
