  1. Installed the new bearings today. Baked the cases for 45 minutes in the oven and left the bearings in the freezer overnight. Dropped in easily! Installed the transmission to make sure there was enough clearance to seal the case halves. Couldn't figure out why nothing would line up - turns out when I replaced the shift forks I accidentally put them in the wrong order, oops. Couldn't figure out why I had no first gear, and spent an embarrassingly long time trying to solve it. Until I remembered this bike has a GP shift pattern with N at the bottom. Doh! Will install the crank as soon as possible but judging by how hard it was to remove, I think I'm going go need a crank puller tool. Anyone have one I can borrow?
  2. Fresh out the oven! Ready to start assembly.
  3. They're so rad. Been looking at purchasing one too but man the prices have skyrocketed recently.
  4. Made a little bit of progress today. Set the timing at 10deg BTDC and pulled the carb apart again. With some fine fiddling with the idle adjustment screw it will idle - roughly. I need to have a proper play with the mixture screw as it didn't seem to be doing much. Ran out of time but I'll have another play next weekend. Video of it idling now.
  5. Choice! Good list of things to try today! Will pull the carb off again, make sure everything clear and remove hay adjustment screw and see what happens. Thanks!
  6. Cool! I'll pull the carb apart for the third time haha. Re: your second point about it potentially being a fuel leak, the engine runs better and will idle high when the choke flaps are closed which would indicate a lean condition right? Could I assume that I wouldn't be flooding the engine due to this?
  7. Hi all, Thought I'd quiz you lot before I throw in the towel and send the car to a professional. My Escort (1600 X/Flow) is running like a bag of dicks. Won't idle. Can only keep it running by stabbing the gas. I had the inlet & carb removed to give them a quick tidy up while I was swapping out my oil pump. Chucked it all together and can't for the life of me get it to idle. It will start up with some throttle and then will quickly slow down and die. I can keep it running by stabbing the gas occasionally or it will idle quite high once warmed up with the choke flaps closed. So my thoughts are A. vacuum leak or B: idle circuit in the carb. I've done the following: new gaskets on inlet manifold & carb insulator. checked for vacuum leaks using carb cleaner. (Can't seem to find any) stripped down carb (Weber 32 DGAV) & gave everything an ultrasonic clean & blew out all gallerys with air & carb cleaner - nothing seems to be blocked. I stupidly removed the idle mixture screw when rebuilding the carb - but this seems to have little effect on the idle when adjusted. Here's an example: https://youtu.be/AjBkuCH9ye8 Am I missing something painfully obvious? Any help greatly appreciated!
  8. Engine case are away getting blasted & powder coated. My new shift fork arrived all the way from Florida. Rebuilt the shift drum, and pulled apart the transmission to ensure everything was in the correct order.
  9. Been a little distracted with another new bike purchase. However, nearly all the parts have arrived to do the bottom end rebuild. Just waiting on one more bearing and trying to find a replacement shift fork.Shout outs to Yambits for being a helpful bunch!
  10. Let's cross this bridge together haha.
  11. Carbs came up super nice after 15 minutes in the ultrasonic cleaner. Also stripped the rest of the bike down.
  12. If there's anyone who knows, it's you QCR boys haha. I'll give it a while!
  13. Awesome! Need to sort out some Shore rides - I don't think I can get across the bridge on the YB haha
  14. Awesome! Yeah man that was me giving my girlfriend her first lessons haha! And yeah I live about a kilometre from there. Come for a hoon/yarn!
  15. Found a problem! Now the scavenger hunt begins for a new one. Stripped the carbs which had the the most disgusting, gooey, varnished fuel covering everything. Will give it a dunk in the ultrasonic cleaner. Also managed to get the crank out with a bit of persuasion. Super excited to send the cases off to get vapour blasted. Now on the hunt to find replacement bearings & seals.
  16. Decided to go balls deep on the spare engine. I've had a fair few motorcycle engines apart, but I've never had them down to the bare cases. Time to learn a thing or two. I also need to find out why the engine was in pieces in the first place. I can only assume something is broken or something is missing. Started stripping, bagging and tagging.
  17. https://youtu.be/GHKt-AbF_wg Goes hard for what it is etc. Pulls my fat ass around pretty well. Think I'll struggle to get it over the Harbour Bridge though. Robbed the handlebars and rear wheel from the parts bike and spent FAR too many hours replacing the fork seals. Fresh WOF, fresh rego = happy girlfriend, ready to learn how to ride!
  18. Well technically my girlfriends. Since riding on the back of my motorcycle through Vietnam, my girlfriend has expressed interest in learning to ride a motorcycle herself. Always keen to crowd my garage with more non-running vehicles, I swooped up a pair of YB100s from the Moped NZ Facebook page. Good excuse to buy a 2 stroke, cause I’ve been pining for one for a long time. The first one is complete with live rego. Recently failed a WOF on fork seals and brake shoes - so nothing major. The plan is to keep my hands off it! I’ll pillage the front fender off the second bike, flip the handlebars back over and have a completely standard bike for my girlfriend to learn to ride on. Would love to completely restore it one day. The second one is in bits, but it looks like everything is there. Registration status is unknown.
  19. Few more parts arrived from 4into1. Trying to get the controls fitting nicely. Normally the bike would have the switches and lever perches in one unit. Going custom and having seperate levers/switches means I'm running out of space on the bars.
  20. My whole body is itchy from wrapping the exhaust with heat wrap. Did a rough test fit and decided that I'll probably try find some chrome tips to finish it off. Mo approves.
  21. Spent ages trying to find a good looking tail light - ended up going with a $5 one from AliExpress haha. Back off the stand and had my first sit on the bike with the new seat. I'm short, and never thought I'd ride a bike with my legs hunched up and at a height where I can flat foot it - still, it's super comfy and should be a fun zippy bike around town. Next up is finding some indicators that are tiny yet look period correct. Will mock up the exhaust this week. Still deciding whether to run open pipes for maximum rowdiness or fit some sort of silencer. After that it's gauges, side covers, control cables, switches and wiring - then I'll be done! I really wanted the bike to take styling from the likes of a BSA Goldstar and I'm super stoked I've pulled this off.
  22. So Greg did an incredible job on the seat. Fits perfect, looks great and has me super excited!
  23. Hot off the press. Greg has sent me a pic of how the seat's looking. I'll install it this weekend, along with the exhaust and I should have a cosmetically complete bike.
  24. Air filters all finished. Hopefully they breathe the same or similar to the originals. We'll find out soon enough.
