  1. just wundering if i can keep my 4g32 flywheel and use it on my 4g63 motor or do i have to get a 4g63 flywheel? any help would be great!!
  2. how hard would it be to replace the bearings and that? still able to buy new ones off the shelf? its been making the noise for a while now and has worsened.probly done around 1200kms on it wth the tapping noise.still craks 180kmph tho myte just take it easy on it and wait for it to die.then replace them with leather lyk the maori said to do haha. as for the conversion to a 2 litre, ive already got a l200 gearbox so it would be pretty easy ya think? same loom and that?
  3. yes it has oil.what type of oil would be best for my engine? oh bugger. complete rebuild needed then.whats the clearance in the big end mean? are the 1600 engine mounts the same as 2 litre engine mounts in ex lancers?

My 1600 ex lancer has devolped some very bad sounding tapping noises.if anyone could help with what it could be that would be great. here are the facts: -when the engine is started cold there will be a couple of knocks and then no knocks at all until it warms up -doesnt do it under load -when hot at at idle speed the knock does not happen until its reved up past 2500rpm and keeps knocking until around 3500 rpm and is sweet after that -slight smoke coming out of breather hose -hasnt lost that much power since the tapping started but has lost some -sounds like something in the top end thinking about putting the standard cam back in to see if that changes anything but if anyone noes what it most likely is that would be great cheers ps. after a new 4g32b cylinder head to see if i could put that on and fix the tapping noise if anyone has one theyd like to get rid of

  6. i was thinking of doing the same thing with my twin carb manifold but using 2 2litre ex lancer carbs instead.think it would work?
  7. ohkae i will try setting them to that. it sounds like its coming from the top end rather than a bearing. was rebuilt around 50000 ks ago with all new bearings etc. the noise started happening after i thrasged it a little bit too much in the wet haha. might just need to do a 4g63 upgrade i think
  8. my engine was making a tapping noise (quite loud) and i thought it was the tappet clearances.found out it was both my tappets and my fuel pump.so have replaced the fuel pump. now im trying to redo the tappet clearance. my engine has been fairly worked, plained head, lumpy cam, bored out ,balance shafts removed etc etc. what should i be setting the tappet clearance at? i know its .15 inlet and .25 outlet but its still not quiet when i set them to this. the noise only happens when the engine has warmed up and only makes it between 1900 rpm and 2800 rpm. any help would be great cheeers!
  9. well they fitted on sweet.got the car started by pouring petrol dwn the throat and sounded much louder.but i dnt thnk they were getting any fuel. so just chucked the sweet 2 litre carb back on and gna leave it at that

What is a 32/36? a single carb? i had a 2 litre ex lancer carb on it before hand. the engine sounded it wasnt getting enough fuel.theve already been rebuilt and cleaned up pretty well.i started up before and its definatly alot louder and sounded way better.maybe i should just rebuild the 2 litre carb

  12. yea i think they are made for fwd.the air cleaner i got with it looks like it was off a fwd with the way its facing.i have seen my carbs on a rwd setup before on tha net.there solex im pretty sure.the manifold isnt really on a angle.the carbs are downdraughts.2 of the waterline rote up but theas just one that doesnt. the one that comes along from the water pump and around the back of the engine.comes out around by the back of the carbs and into the firewall im guessin that would be for the heater?
  13. not enough money for these.looked around for ages and a manifold would be hard to find. these twincarbs were 70bux all up so mean deal i thawt
  14. anyone have exparience wth 4g32 twin carbs? there off a mitsi gto i think. they bolt straight on to a ex lancer 1600 bar a few thngs. the accelerator cable too short. is that easy to fix? and this water pipe at the back of the engine myte be for the heater or sumthn but i dont know where its suppose to go on the twin carbs. any help would be great
  15. its quite hard to explain but il gve it a go.if you take the water pump pulley off you can get a better look at it.just along a bit from the oil pump drive thers a raised up triangle thng tht lines up wth a cut in triangle on the smallest crank pulley.nd the one on the cam pulleys easy to see.a little white dot on the face of it. clean all around ur oil pump nd crank pulley and youl find it
  16. churr for the help got myne running yesterday.was simple as in the end just wasnt looking in the right place for the timing marks. now off to put my twin carbs on.....

  18. ohkae this is what i needed to know thankyou! just tried getting the ex goin before. where exactly are these marks on the oil pump housing? is it lyk u long lump bowt 6mm wide along the pump? i need to get this thing going its been to long!!!
  19. im having the sam sort of problem with my 4g32. lost the timing when i took the cylinder head off. except i have no timing belt cover wich makes things real hard. plus i think my crank pulley has been put on the wrong way round.anyone got a spare timing belt cover?
