  1. As expected with these old things, it has little rust but it's all reasonably easily fixable. It's all the outer skin, no structural so thats a bonus. It's been bogged up, I was also treated to some quality chicken mesh and expanding foam work in the passenger dog leg. That was nice haha
  2. I'm back in the old school Japanese game! I picked up this First Gen Surf back in April. 1989 Toyota Surf 2L Petrol 3Y, Auto Its a little rough around the edges with the interior bombed with a black spray can and rust but overall pretty solid with a live reg. Came with a sweet set of Weds wheels that I plan to restore.
  3. Thanks man. The paint system was simple. The Ruby Red is a base coat colour made up with pearls. It doesn't require any 3 layer process. Basically lay it down like normal paint and finish with clear. Easy
  4. Looking back to how I got it, fuck that red was yuck! Not to mention all the other shit like the trunk straps, wheels, vinyl roof etc...
  5. A lot of work has happened since my last post. Pretty much finished the car haha A whole lot more sandy and buffing. Then assembly... Its crazy how much the colour changes in the different light
  6. Painted, couldn't be happier. Next is a wet sand and buff
  7. Got some colour down on the jams and on the underside of the trunk and hood. Loving the new colour! Its Mazda Ruby Red... We put the hood and trunk back on and shipped it off to the workshop where the rest will be painted in the booth. Cant wait!
  8. Cheers bro, looking forward to see what you do with the Mopar!
  9. Oh man! Hope I don't disappoint! I'm keeping this one nice and clean at this stage. Cheers bro!
  10. We got the car prepped and ready to say "later" to the red with a nice coat of primer! I was stoked to finally see the ass end of that red! haha So yeah, all primed and the start of blocking.
  11. After all the sanding and all the red dust I really f%@kin' hate that red paint. My garage and everything inside has a nice tint of red haha I've had the trunk strap holes and the trim holes over the roof filled in. So just needs a skim of filler to smooth it all out. So many pieces to prep. This is most of the filler panels headlight doors etc... Theres a few other pieces not pictured.
  12. Haha I think I'm going to keep the paint nice and simple on this one.
  13. Haha nah man, never going to happen, I'm also way to deep now haha Check the latest post
  14. Sand, sand, sand, repeat. So much sanding! I'm going to smooth out a few small things on the car in the process. Like remove aerial and trunk straps
  15. I drove it like this for a while, added an original restored chain steering wheel and had a good time. But I just could get my head around the red! So it got to the point where I made the call and started stripping it for a repaint. Its kind of a shame as the paint was pretty nice.... Ah well!
  16. It didn't take long to start messing with it. First thing that needed to be sorted were the wheels an height. Going with the old school lowrider look I went with some original, restored McLean 14x7 bolt on wires. These can also run the Tru Ray cap which is cool too
  17. Now that the Corvair is done for now I started on my Thunderbird... I little back-story, I bought the car in Wanaka site unseen in April 2016 which was a bit of a risk. I turned up to the sellers place, checked out the car and it was mint! 47k original miles, been in the same family for the 30 or so years. In the last 10 years before I got it, it had only done 1,000ks. It's fully loaded with pretty much every option from factory. The only thing was that it was red, I'm not a fan of red. It looked good in red don't get me wrong but yeah. Anyway, had to have it! I jumped in with the misses and drove it back to Hamilton with no issues at all. Not to mention we cracked it with the weather.
