    Mesh Visors

Gidday, I've got one of those mesh visors to put on my wagon but don't really want to put it on using self tappers into the A pillar. i talked to a guy who thought there was some kind of clip-on option. anyone got one that can advise? cheers, Roddy
  2. just to confirm.... meeting at burgerfuel on dominion road at what time?
  3. hey guys, looks like i've just missed the boat... just moved to aux and keen to meet some fellow oldschoolers. any plans for the next meet? chur
  4. IT LIVES!! thanks for the help guys. problem turned out to be a combination of faulty dizzy (initial problem) and tired carb. I put the five speed in too. Just in time to leave chch and drive the hundreds of ks north. it was a rushed but fun mission. Representing the winterless far north now. anyone from north of whangarei? swapped flywheel, clutch and gearbox from sierra so it would all fit. got cortina drive shaft modified at circle track engineering. in the end it all came together pretty well considering i had no idea what i was doing. ended up just using a piece of steel channel for the crossmember with the rubber mount fitted in there too. works mint except that the exhaust now needs a hammering so it doesn't rattle on it at idle! car is running on a bit when it's hot but have been filling with 91 so will try something higher to see if it cures it. heard that could be an easy fix.
  5. just thought, probably can't just swap the flywheels can I? the 2L sierra one will be much heavier than the 1600 one on the cortina? any ideas?
  6. It definately doesn't fit. does that mean i have an escort 4 speed in my cortina? The cortina has a pinto btw. what can i look for to tell what i have? any tips for removing the flywheels?
  7. Cheers Corey, the carby i was having trouble with was a manual choke. not sure if it would still give similar problems? i decided to pay the money and have the piece of mind that the carby will be sweet. so getting a weber dgav jetted for my 1600. hopefully problem will be sorted when i get that back. on another note, i have been trying to put a 5 speed in from a SOC 2L sierra that i bought. but it doesn't want to go as "straight in" as i would have thougt. the spline on both ends of the 5 speed in the sierra are of a larger diameter than the 4 speed cortina ones? is this normal? clutches are different spline and pcd too so think i may have to swap up to the flywheels. will also have to get the prop shaft fixed too cos the mounts for the bearing are in different places anyone have any clues? I don't think the engine in the sierra is the original one (didn't know that when i bought it) cheers, Roddy
  8. Had no idea getting the carby looked at would be "a couple of hundred"! not quite in a students budget at the moment. anyone with a spare carby sitting round i'd be interested in buying it offf you. cheers
  9. Ok, had another go today. basically checked spark, timing. car would start but then die after 30 seconds or so. HEAPS of fuel in the inlet manifold. it kept flooding itself. found fuel dripping down the carby. adjusted the float. same problem examined the carby again and it seems like the bushes/seals around the throttle spindle are worn. there is a bit of play in it and fuel is leaking onto the outside of the manifold. can anyone reccomend someone to recondition that part of the carby? i bought a rebuild kit and gave it the once over 2 weeks ago but couldn't believe how little there was in the kit! what a waste of money. but anyways, i think it just needs that bottom part done. everything else seems sweet. cheers, Roddy
  10. yeah, same deal with simons carb. plugs come out black and wet. the black just wipes off though. gona give it another good go today. fingers crossed. i'll post up how it goes
  11. hey guys, car is a 1975 mk3 cortina estate with 1600 PINTO all pretty standard. wondering if anyone can help, I feel like I have tried everything. here's the problem: -several weeks ago car was running rough. found dizzy shaft was so worn it was eating caps and rotors for breakfast. -replaced dizzy -car ran mint for all of about 4 minutes then coughed and died -since then have rebuilt the carby- no help -tried a friends working carby- no change (each time the engine floods real quick) so we take plugs out, dry them, wait a bit. and put them back in. usually the first time after this the engine almost takes over from the starter but not quite. -because it kept flooding we tried disconnecting the fuel and dripping bits in to see what happened. no better. tried changing the coil- no improvement. any pointers or inspiring words would be sweet. cheers, Roddy
  12. cheers, will have a look around. also, if i wanted to put a 5 speed into it is what would you guys advise in terms of something easy to do? I have no experience? is there anything that pretty much bolts straight on? sierra?
  13. Hey all, just wondering if anyone can help. I recently bought a '75 mk3 cortina 1600 wagon and it's been missing a bit around medium revs. had a look at the distributer cap and it's all gouged out where it sparks across. not knowing much i replaced the cap and retested. no change. didn't have time to look into it for a week or so then had another look the other day and the new cap is even more worn than the one i replaced. i then gave the rotor a wiggle and it has about 5mm of play. Pulled the whole dizzy out and started to pull it to bits to see if i cud find what was worn. havn't finished doing that yet but basically wondering if anyone can tell me if i am wasting my time? can you recondition them (is there someone in CHCH) or should i be looking to replace it? i'm short on cash too (like most of us) I dont think it's the original dizzy in there atm: MOTORCRAFT 12127 73BBBA4BD any pointers would be a huge help. cheers
