Anyone seen the beigey-yellow trump Ute in chch? Had to do a double take as I just drove past, no photos though looked sweet!

That'd be Darryl from Economy Autos, or it might not be anymore I think someone mentioned he was closing down

  2. We had an Orange Holden One tonner ute on the farm called the 'Orange Roughy' when dad did the feeding out he'd put it in gear and us kids (I would have been around 5 years old) would sit in the cab and steer it around the paddock while he threw the feed out. Because their were three of us we had to take turns so we'd be sliding over the bench seat climbing out the open door and jumping back onto the tray to 'help'.

When I was about 7 I thought it would be cool to do a MacGuyver roll while jumping out of the drivers seat and managed to run over my own ankle.

  3. Like you I usually use the Kyteler/Hemi method which works 95% of the time - when something being a bit of a cunt (usually the jag where the rear pipes has lots of ups and down or if a systems been completely drained) and still has a small amount of air somewhere in the system bleed as per above and then go around each corner again this time get someone to pump the brake pedal a few times and then hold it down while you crack open your bleed nipple and then tighten it before they release then pedal you should only need to do this once or twice at each corner. This pressurizes  the brake fluid and makes the air into larger bubbles rather than lots of tiny ones which sometimes can't be seen you should get a few bubbles at the affected corners (no way of knowing which ones they are so do them all).

I thought it might be, but it didn't seem to make any difference. I will try again when it is dark.

Yeah I don't recall mine ever working either - might be able to clean out the rheostat to see if it helps.

If its anything like the Jag it'll be pretty dim at full power anyhow

  5. I found a really good article about this years ago. Essentially the thinking went that any engine that had run on unleaded fuel the valve seats retained enough of the lead in them that they should outlast the vehicle.

If you replaced your valve seat with the original spec ones (rather than hardened) and ran them on unleaded they'd be buggered quick.

I think that's how it went - I'll see if I can find it

  6. Can anyone recommend someone to have a look at my bikes carbs (Honda GL400).

It tends to be hard to start needing alot of choke then its stumble along on a low idle before suddenly increasing in revs. When warmed up with no choke it runs fine (although maybe a little thirsty). This isn't much of a problem in summer but its a pain in the arse in winter

I've pulled the carbs to bit and cleaned the passages a few times to no avail - but the main jets are stuck fast and I can't get them out. Love to hear some suggestions on who could have a look at these and finally spend some cash on the poor old workhorse.

  7. I reckon there would be a good correlation between the high price of fuel and the spots of low road toll activity and that the other measures taken have had little effect.

Plus most road safety adverts have the message speed kills - as a result most people have that as there measure as to whether they are a good driver.

I'd love to see a series of ads along the lines of 'don't drive like a wanker' - i.e; speeding up for passing lanes; sitting too far out on the intersection when turning right so you block the view of everyone trying to turn left (this happens to me every morning on the way to work), not speeding up/slowing down to let someone who's indicating change lanes; or failing that just generally obeying the road rules I've had horrifying discussions with people who clearly have no idea how the give way rules work or how to use a roundabout.

  8. Hi Guys,

Poor old Jag got rear ended on the way to work the other morning.

I've lodged a claim and they're going to call me back tomorrow to find out who I'd want to use for repairs.

I'm not sure how much leeway they're going to give me with who to use - I'm with AMI but they wouldn't give me classic cover as its a daily driver (its under an agreed value policy.)

Any suggestions as to which panel beating places I should suggest.

Pics of the damage - bumper is mashed (that's a single piece of steel!), and the panel behind its had a bit of a hiding, pic was also taken just after I opened the boot which now won't close...
