Such a wicked project , love the old lada's but they are few and far between these days
The more of these pics I see, the more I like the colour-coded wheels maybe slightly darker than the car
Get the buffer out and give the paint a birthday , mustard coloured rims with the big white walls and some suspension refinement of about 4-6" and your sorted...........

In the middle of doing this now, but with a fc3s caliper as the they arent as wide as fd3s ones so dont protrude as far out. Went down to the 260mm bmw disc rather than the 276mm fc3s disc's so hopefully 13" standard will fit.
Looking at redrilling and spacing standard backing plate like it was ment to be there.

For what your gonna do with it a $40 B&D grinder will last you forever id say
Bit different when your grinding pipe / steel all day you have to buy good shit otherwise you spend more time replacing it than doin it

Heard some good reveiws out of the guys in rotovegas , think this is him
-
Not really the answer your looking for and assuming you dont want to see it
I would get a little brush with some gloss black hobby paint or the like and paint the sealer down inside the groove with it
will be way less noticable and easy to do again anytime. If the sealer is black you wont need to do it again.

Yeah sounds far to hard
Makes some heavy reading though http://embedded-lab.com/blog/?p=916
Stick to melting things together in my spare time with a welder i think
-
What sort of dollars would be involved in making something like that you think ?
More research i do on them i think ill stick to mechanical engineering - haha
-
Have the usual e -boost / afr / oil pressure in my car so dont really want anymore
So i have been researching the idea having some smaller digital Lcd style units to read the water / oil temps and stashing them in the top piece of the dash knightrider style
There are lots of atmospere thermometers but they only really read up to around 70 degrees C when the oil / water will be along way over that
A unit like this can be had for around 15 bucks to read the weather up to 70 degrees
Does anyone here have the know how to make something like this ? Or even a simple LCD unit converting signal?

I can get the matching gauges from overseas at about 150 each ( they are now a discontinued product) but exploring other options what are you thoughts?

Yeah the red one looked mint , but i love that fact the new one is a racecar
It comes with all kinds of history and all the stories from people of what and where its been will entertain you for hours

a friend of mine is selling the old rayglass sr20, just buy that haha http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... 670667.htm
out of curiosity what sort of dollars is he after for the setup

only one i deal with is in tauranga - BOP polishers - Toby is a good fella
has polished all my rx parts over the last 2 years
-
Thinking about having a bid on a pair of 16" tires down there.
Anyone coming up able to pick them the address in welly and bring them to whakatane / tauranga / taupo ? in the next month or so
Tires are on some rims but dont want them, so more than happy for you to scrap them if you dont want to transport them.

RX3 for your first car... Damn I'm envious.
MOAR pics in build thread please.
Keep up the good work.
+1
Had to drive a 93 corolla wagon for 4 years before i could afford the rx

For covering guard holes etc you can get little stick on chrome trim bits to cover them. kinda look like wee chrome coffin badge shaped things. Might have some around
Any luck ? got me interested now that i might be able to remove my mirror without looking horrid.
-
That car looks awesome! Had planned on doing fender mirrors originally, but as there are holes where the previous mirrors were (on the door from memory) we decided to place them there so there weren't gaping holes.
Same applies for the holes on the guards which my brother reckons will have to be placed over with mud flaps, personally I hate that idea.
I would be more than happy to use original rx mirrors, I didn't realise until now what they looked like as those parts went off with cousins car. Guessing they'd look best in the white color of my car?
Yeah - mirror on the door of mine has holes underneath and thats the only reason i leave it there
Will probably machine a stainless block and weld it under my guard then paint the 1600 then i have the option of attaching when i want
-
The mirrors any really big enough to see anything, you look how big they are comparer to the newer vehicle ones.
Mine is on rx2 on the drivers door , find it easier to turn my head and look as the car aint exactly big.
You looking to do something like this ?
Dereks car
Definately a aesthetics thing , diffent fokes different taste. I just would by the best looking ones
-
sweet thanks danger, it'd probably be easiest if you PM'd my brother (BDA780) to work it out
out of curiosity, does $120 seem reasonable for chrome bullet racing mirrors? I'm probably going to go ahead and purchase them, but was just wondering what your opinions were.

Gaz
Have you started a thread for your Rx2? Keen to see more of Rx's on here
would be equally as keen to see your project Gaz!
Yeah gaz dying to see what youve been hiding at rotoma.
I have one of them bullet mirrors on mine on the drivers side door , only good for asthetics if it didint have two holes holding it on it wouldnt be there.
You gonna bang them up the front on the guards?
-
Id shave those bump stops (cut and sand them smooth - like they arre factory) and run it till you have the cash to go to some BC's
Cut spring will be fine in there as long as it is captive for what your currently doing.
my 2 cents...............................

Love you work , Is an inspiration to all us owners
Cant go wrong with gunmetal (reminds me of MRGRIM) as it seems to work on almost all cars and you get this wicked contrast happening with the shiny bits
I think ill go to watanabes one day on mine , when the budget allows.
-
You can sharpen up a masonary drill bit and use that, I've drilled through new bull dozer track pins with them before (hard as fuck!). Use some real good cutting oil.

Thought id leave that secret , but since you mentioned it....
Go nice and slow, heaps of coolant and stop heaps as if you get it to hot the brazing will melt and the tip will fall out.....

I have the part you are after sitting in a box in my garage. PM if you are interested.
/these boxes love to fuck 2nd gear synchro so nearly any box you buy will have a crunchy 2nd.
Max fixed-ness there if you get a hold of dave and it wont have to be swapped out again for a while
-
Fizz it back together would be a option but will lack the strength due it being cast alloy and the fact there is a process to welding it, but there may be an option to drill and install another pin on the otherside to strengthen it up
It not a running surface or anything
-
I have a couple of mates that are heading back from Hams to TGA on Sunday.
Gutted - missed that over the weekend damn it
Any takers?
