  1. Followed this from day one knowing your skills building the starlet.

I spend a lot of time researching parts and pieces to make them work and i would of never thought half of this stuff would have even remotely gone together

Your project is inspirational to us part-timers, Keep up the good work.

  2. resene durepox 2k

tough, flexible and comes in satin black

Was looking at durapox 2k primer spec sheet last night as have heard good things

However "free sanding 2-pack epoxy urethane primer" sounds more like a high build, Will this actually seal the steel off from the outside world?

  3. Anyone recommend an epoxy primer?

Want to seal up the good metal while a few door patches are done, then once done will hit with the sander and blast another full seal coat on there before the high-build goes on.

Anyone got hook ups/work in the industry?

  4. I was thinking, with a few new members poping up in TGA/ROT/WHK, I was wondering if people may like to have, say a bi monthly weekend meat, and rotate between the cities/towns? Or something similar?

Actually that could have merrits to feel out the numbers and the individual cities can always get them selves a regular event local, then head to the meets in different towns when when they are on somewhere else.

  5. I've got some engine books at home too... Bought them before I plunged in the deep end and bought a blown motor in parts to rebuild when I was in a similar situation.

You're welcome to borrow them if you want to have a read.

But yeah, I reckon best way is just throw yourself in the deep end. Buy a spare 7k and an engine stand, pull it all apart and clean it up etc.

It's nice knowing the terms for what's what, but being able to visualise everything, knowing how big valves physically are, etc etc helps to no end in my opinion.

Either way, the best possible advice I think I can give, is that if you are planning to rebuilt a motor.... Leave the one in your car, and buy a second one to play with.

Keep your car running while you work on it, then swap them over and sell the other one, so it's cost neutral but much better than having a car off the road to 10 gazillion years when you inevitably find some complications etc.

Also maybe dont read up too much on engines, it might dissuade you from the 7K :D

This is the way im doing it, always wanted to build my own motor (something i find interesting)

Alot of people have talked me out of it saying it could be a expensive 300 revolutions if i miss something but where is the fun in that

Always wondered if somewhere has night classses for this as there are alot of beginner tricks/checks that could help alot.

  6. Well there must be alot of muppets out there because I see them going for $450 - 550 bare as most weeks on Trademe.

I agree they go for around 450 now (without shifter/bellhousing) but without a shifter housing ,try find someone willing to sell you just that piece without flogging you.

Could make the top section if thats all it was missing however there is still the shifter on top of the price

  7. Good choice of powerplant you can always swap back to a na motor but who wants to go slower

I like where this car is going should be an oldschool trackday weapon

Hell if you decide you dont like it ill swap you my whole NA setup

  8. Have a friend with rx2 who has done a few driveshafts in his ,

first one was standard two piece, twisted it full 360 on the startline - 12a bridgeport -200hpatw

second 2.5" single piece one a uni fell out at the end of the strip on the downshift and snapped the end of the gearbox locked it up - 13b bridgeport 235hpatw

Third was a full 3" one piece shaft on the dyno destroyed itself at 9000 - 10000rpm in 4th gear punched holes in the exhaust everything - 13b pp 300hpatw

Fourth is back to 2 piece with a hilux hanger in the centre done multiple pulls to 11000rpm and seems to be fine.

They recommended going that way to correct the angles from lowering the car and the shorter length of each piece obviously helps.

  9. Finally decided to change the rx2 over to 4x114 stud pattern so im after a little information.

Below is a picture supposely of a rx2 Knuckle arm underneath and a rx3 one on top. Showing the 65mm spacing (rx2) vs the 80mm (rx3) spacing of the bolt holes.

Has anyone got a rx3/808 sitting in there attic they could measure and tell me the strut bolts are actually 80mm centers? Or even a pair of struts to measure the spacing.

Assuming it is called the Knuckle arm / steering arm whatever

  10. I would still stick with that.

If they say, well we pulled you over at this time, and on your ticket it says 1-1 2012, well that was a whole year ago there fore you are being fined for an offence you never commited.

and then if they say , well, ok we will adjust the ticket to suit and you you still will be proscuted, its human error etc, then I would be saying, well, if its human error, then i say the cop was wrong becasue clearly he was making errors. how can he judge exxess of speed if he doesnt even know what day it is.

Yeah id take that to the lawyer as the plan, the date would be an easy mistake but if you there must be some kind of literacy test to qualify otherwise you can put anyone in a suit to fill out these papers.

See what they reckon i wouldn't give them the chance to change the ticket and send it back to you, if hes to lazy to fill the ticket properly gonna say alot about the ticket issued. The fact he couldnt be bothered filling out your last name says how easy/hard it was for him.

You really have to play on the fact the ticket shows hes lazy and after you as an easy target even if this isnt the case

    Not easy
