How does the reverse light switch in a G52 gearbox work?
Does the circuit ground through the switch when reverse is selected?
-
Is belt driven PTO really that bad? Mitsi canter trucks we have at work run belt PTO and they run the hirail wheels up and down and a palfinger crane fine all day long.
-
I was quoted a similar price when trying to get a pair for an Astina about 5 years ago, they seem to be something that breaks on alot of mazda's so finding mint 2nd hand ones is near impossible.

Gem blades are the go.

Went to pull off the road in my old surf in a downpour, turned out the verge was very soft and slid down a grass bank into tree and fence. Put it in 4wd and drove out of it.
Brought this a couple of years ago 4 a paddock basher and mate did this driving it home, he crawled out and walked away with nothing and we just pulled it back on its wheels and drove it the rest of the way home.
This was stolen by a 14yr old and he did this.
Hit it square on and pulled the chassis rails in, was a right off. Brought it back from the insurance co and doubled my money stripping it.
Had been owned by a an old couple since being imported, serviced religiously and ran like the day it left the factory. Came with half a phone book of receipts from only 1 mechanic just down the road from them. He was changing the cambelt every 20000kms

There is a truck musem near Whakatane thats part of a trucking company, old joker at work knows the guy that runs it. Could find out more/jack up a visit?

Anyone have a welder and keen to do a couple little jobs for beer/cash/etc
I need a crack in an intake manifold welded and maybe a gusset welded on to stop it cracking again, and my spare diff head "fixed"
-
Long time no update...
The extractors were shot from being a shoddy job and ended up like this.
Damm evil heat wrap!
That happened last september, its been off the road since then as becoming a dad costs precious money so it took a while to get these made up.
Nice new extractors, it seems to go better now but its been a while since I drove it and anything seems fast compared to a 3y hilux.
I was curious to how much of a whale it actually is so ran it over the weighbridge at work.
1480kg with about 10l petrol and no driver so shes a bit fat, but its still got all rear interior and a shit ton of useless aircon stuff to strip out to make it doort better.
After what this years Nats looked like im full of motivation and the plans it bring this to Nats next year, the gymkhana looks fun
First things to do are get a crack in the intake manifold fixed, fit a pair of $50 Trademe Recaro's and get the spare diff head welded up.

I go kawerau to tauranga every couple of weeks. Could get it to TGA for you no prob
-
Sounds like it could be UJ or hangar bearings.
Surfs did come out with a 2 ltr petrol 3y btw
-
PM fred who built the red ute, he knows all the ins and outs of fe3 engines and can fill your head will all the info you need
-
Welding up a turbo manifold would be too much for my very limited engineering experience plus theres heaps of room on the drivers side of a 3y to mount a sc14 and having boost from idle is what a ute needs to get it moving IMO
-
Correct me if Im wrong but AFAIK there is no difference between the internals other than the water outlets on the head and different cams to a mazda fe3.
-
Fe3 Dohc do come out as a rwd but badged as a Kia, if you were going to do a fe3 conversion this would be the easiest way to go as they have a CAS to run the spark so no cutting the firewall to fit a dizzy, have rwd orientated water outlets and a over the rocker cover style intake manifold.
One being wrecked here:

These aussie cats used a kia engine in there courier and ran it off a mitsi loom and ecu
edit: the blocks share the same castings as SOHC carby Fe/f8 engines found in most courier/b2000 utes or bongo/econovan
I was doing a capella fe3 conversion into a bongo a while ago and fitted the powersteering pump, alternator, sump and pickup off the carby FE engine that was originally in the bongo to make life simple. This was when sportages were relatively new and expensive still otherwise I would of used a KIA engine
-
could be as easy as swapping the bellhousing over to one that will suit a fe3 engine
-
Yeah a 3y is a slug but I would like to improve on its lack of performance to atleast some performance. I would go with an engine conversion but its my daily driver so taking it off the road for any length of time isn't an option.
Have access to a well equipped to make s/c brackets and whatnot
-
I know there near bulletproof as it is and they have a low comp ratio but would boost be a good idea?
Was thinking a sc14 with 3y injection gear from a surf and a megasquirt to run it.
Would be going into the hilux with the s/c running off a switch, will the intake happily draw through the s/c while its not running or adapt the bypass valve that comes with most sc14 to be open while the s/c isnt switched on?
-
The early shaped Kia Sportage have a Capella Fe3 engine thats been spun round by Kia to run rwd.
Wheres Fred? hes the master of the FE3
-
Yea looks like a nice house, it was tucked up the side of the house last time I was there.
Street View says its number 12

yeah the colour is primo, I like the reflex's they were cheap and a bit oldschool, long term some 16x8ish BBS mesh and a healthy dose of strech and slam would be nice
-

The old man has a new hilux with the 1kd turbo diesel engine. Plenty of grunt for towing and gets stupid good fuel economy
but has a very narrow torque window and if your not in it you could be mistaken for driving a 2l-t
Would be interested to know how the 2.7 petrol goes
